I would like to apologize for early week...
_BiB_ replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Got out early and had a few beers, huh? Gotta love the season to be jolly. -
I jumped in in midstream, but was going to vote Eagles or Dolphins. The Eagles undies calender was a stroke of hormonal marketing genius. We need that firm to promote US foreign policy.

When I was growing up, there were always guns around. Big hunting tradition in my family. It never would have crossed my mind to take one out for fun. I just "knew". Part of it was they were never a big deal, nothing more than another tool like found in the garage. When I wanted to take a .22 out back and "plink", I'd ask permission. I brought up my two boys the same way, kinda. They understood guns pretty well and could shoot and be responsible with it by the time they were 10. They loved to shoot, just to shoot, but they loved to hunt and fish, as well. Those were things we could do together, the three of us. They never would have "screwed up", because they knew that would have been the end of us doing those things together. But, it's a different world, now. Nobody "dies" in a video game, and just like booze, cigarettes and the rest of it, some parents put such a paranoia emphasis on something like a firearm that THEY create the fascination. And, when they don't, society will do it for them. The best way to make a kid do something out of line is to make too big a deal out of it. One has to also consider the 3-6 year olds, who don't have the development done to fully understand the ramifications. They see guns used on TV, but haven't grasped the concept of injury too well, unless personally experienced-and no one wants that. I think the hunting aspect really helps. When a child sees what a tiny bullet can do to a 180 pound deer, it gets a point across. Anyway, there is some good technology being developed for law enforcement. I don't think they will accept something unreliable. There's still a chance that a round will misfire. No weapon is 100% foolproof. For the modern day era, in the more urban-suburban setting I see a good potential. Lot's of problems with legalities (the kid that takes the inoperable weapon to school, in spite of things) but that's bad parenting. Not gun control.

I don't think it's any secret that Hillary is going to get the Democratic nod. The Clinton's control the money, and 80% of the party. If Condoleeza Rice can do something noteworthy enough for people to consider her qualified, she's the only logical Republican choice to trump not only the female candidate, but any race issues the Dems might want to bring to the table as well. As far as a woman president, no one would have a choice. You're getting one. Powell will not run, nor be on the ticket because if he does, his wife will walk. Fortunately, he is a good man that has his priorities in order.

I'm glad I founf the link with the photo of the AMT. I've been looking for another Ruger .44 mag semi-auto carbine (10/44). There's a few in decent shape there. Maybe I'll get myself a Christmas present.

I went back to the site. It appears to be Czeck. Seems to be the chronology of a camping trip, the shot mentioned was referenced as a "winter Sauna". Looks like it was part of some hazing ritual, emphasis being on being naked in the cold for a little while. Shows no genitals, doesn't appear sexual and the kids are all laughing and looking froze.

I tried not to see that. Linked to mine in an edit.

You'd have to post the link. .380 is the caliber of a weapon, it's actually a short cased 9mm. The one I'm refering to is a small backup double action semi auto pistol I carry when I'm not wearing enough to cover my full sized 9. AMT .380 BU

I think they could play that one down. He was just the messenger. Doesn't matter-Powell will never, ever, run. Condi Rice is African american too, and might be the only shot at beating Hillary.
-
I fortunately don't have that problem. I live alone. I actually use a loaded .380 as a paperweight on my desk. This, to me, could be a good fit for the "smart gun" technology, where the gun is electronically "fitted" to it's owner. No one else is able to fire it. That way, one could have a loaded 9 on the shelf, without fear of the kids blowing each other away.
-
Still (and I'm probably one of the more ardent supporters of the second ammendment) I'm not comfortable with folks that just go buy one, load it, and put it in the drawer. When someone is breaking down the door is a poor time to fire a weapon for the first time.

No, with a bowling ball. My average with a .45 is about 260. With the flame thrower it's 1. (Bowling alley per evening).

900 is my lifetime cumulative score.

Just how do you know that for certain? Many, many times-the perp retreats out the door as fast as he can at the mere sight of a firearm. It's very low percentage for them. It's much easier to rob or rape a defenseless target. One would assume that these are easy to find. If they advance, the key thing is to be willing to use it once it comes out. In situations where people have had their own weapon used against them, chances are they were unfamiliar with the weapon (lack of training/practice) or lacked the will to actually use it (shouldn't have had one, not emotionally equipped).

I really don't care what the anti-gun ownership folks have to say, as long as it stays talk. Someone breaks into my place, I'll do what I'll do-as they will do what they would do. I do have a lot of issue, strong issue, with the idea of making me into a criminal through anti-gun legislation efforts. Even if 911 response time is 90 seconds (unrealistic) 90 seconds is an awfully, awfully long time in a bad situation. This "having a gun around will make things more dangerous" is a bunch of crap, providing someone knows what they are doing as opposed to just having it there to have it.
-
How about those that believe in having a gun have them, and those that don't -don't? This is another one side will never convince the other. One can not discuss logic here. Some people don't mind being a victim, other's don't plan on ever being one. For every "they're both still alive" there's probably a "they both are dead".

Rumsfeld is arrogant, but not incompetent. There are a lot of transformational efforts going on changing the structure and operations of the DoD, for the better, and it's spilling a lot of rice bowls.
-
Rummy and the Wolf are going to have to pried out of there with crow bars. A lot of feathers have been ruffled over the past four years, and a lot more are going to get plucked. It's not the war that's at issue, is transformations within DoD.
