I'd rather have Kurt Schulz, IMO he was a better overall player. PLUS, he still lives in buffalo if Im not mistaken. I recall resading somewhere that he is a financial advisor or something like that.

Im just using it as an example. Since its not like Bly is tearing up the league the past couple years I doubt Detroit will be looking for a high pick in exchange for him, likely no higher than a 3rd, if that, and possibly as low as a 5th or 6th. Since we dont have a 5th this year I used the 6th for my example. The point of my argument is that sometimes its better to trade your later picks for a so-so stopgap type guy who starts for a year than to get an average depth guy who never starts and only makes minor contributions for a few years. Get what Im tryin to say?

Free Agency Preview of Defensve Backs
ROCCEO replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of the UFA and RFAs these are the guys I like the most, but Nate and Asante really are the only true class of this CB free agent class. Asante (obviously) Travis Fisher Lenny Walls Jason David Of the possible cuts, guys who I thikn could fit in our system: Ken Lucas Shawn Springs(if he can stay healthy) Sam Madison(stop-gap player with experience, never hurts) Brian Kelly(perfect cover 2 guy) Dwight Smith(i know hes a safety but he was pretty good in tampa as a corner and even though he has off the field issues, one would have to consider him for the right price). David Barrett Again, obviously each guy would have to come at the right price or under the correct set of circumstances, but as it stands we're looking at a gaping hole in the secondary and we're gonna hve to bring in a vet to play one of the corner spots even if hes not a starter. -
Depends with Dre Bly, I think he has problems staying healthy. Also he is a bit undersized. However, Dick Jauron would be familiar with him and exactly what it is that he brings to the table. If they unload him for like a 6th round pick, I say why not pick up a guy like that. How many sixth round picks in the past 5 years have gone on to be starter-caliber players in this league.

Marty Schottenheimer fired!

What about whomever was the OC for the Cowboys last year, he showed that hes capable of directing an offense that can attack you in a variety of ways. Unless it was just someone else coaching sean paytons offense Also, what about Dick LeBeau as HC, he knows the 3-4 as good as anyone -

I believe it was the pistons and knicks Furthermore, I agree that Mora Jr is a strong candidate in this situation. Guy was an average HC or so then ends up taking a job as like a secondary coach or something, doesnt sit right, even if it is in his home state. Theres one more guy who nobody has mentioned(in part bc of how short-sighted the nfl is I think) and that guy is named Steve Mariucci -

Has anyone had worse luck in the playoffs than marty? Earnest Byner The Drive Running into the early 90s bills Nate Keading(thats right, I said it) and Marlon McCree honestly -

Warning: The following Post contains a minor conspiracy theory Here goes: It is a well known fact that AJ Smitch and Marty mix like oil and water. Could it be, that AJ smith is just a huge A-Hole and truly detests shottenheimer to the point that he had this all planned since they lost in the playoffs, only so that he could wait until no HC jobs existed anymore to fire him, thereby forcing him to take at least a year off. SOmething tells me that even though hes been in the gamea l ong time, that marty is very very hungry. Flame away -

Right on Bro Although IMO Marty is a quality coach, theres just certain aspects of his coaching that lend themselves to a team not being poised for a stretch run. I believe currently 4 head coaches have worked directly with Schottenheimer: Cameron, Dungy, Herm Edwards and Cowher if im not mistaken -

I agree 100% with that and if we can do it then McNally will certainly be the one to know for sure. -

On occasion, the Pats WILL pay top dollar. ie: Roosevelt Colvin -
ALl we need....another Mike Williams. Furthermore: I love this idea in theory, however, I dont know if it would hold up in practice. Now if we could get him in here for a low contract number then sign him up and turn him into a situational red zone threat. Even if thats all he is, he could at least do it while at the same time creating a distraction which frees up the other players.

First of all, Ive been reading these draftek drafts and I firmly believe they need to refine that software quite a bit, however, that string of events would be nice i guess, but I dont know how I feel about Marshawn Lynch. Those PAC-10 offensive players seem to be more often duds than studs to me.(JJ arrington, Joey Harrington, Mike Williams, Reggie Williams). However, if NO did trade with us I believe theyd likely have to toss a later round pick in as well. A move from 27 to 12 is pretty significant as the 12th pick almost always has a shot at guy who can be plugged in to start immediately and generally teams in the late twenties and early thirties draft for need and tend to pick guys who are more project-like. Just look at our picks from last year(Whitner at 8 and McCargo at 26(?))

BTW, I dont want to give anyone an anuerism around here but its been suggested that the Pats will be going after him as well. -

FWIW: heres my take: Arrington: Ruptured Achilles, at least as bad as Spikes' injury and Im not so sure that Arrington is as intense a comptetitor as TKO so that doesn't bode well. Also, I believe he is primarily a weakside guy although he has played strong too. Arrington at 100% is a complete LB, he can tackle, cover and rush the passer...however, I think those days are over. My take is that he may not even play in 07. Petitgout: Drafted in 99 first round out of Notre Dame. Played LT for the Giants, really blossomed under mcnally's tutelage, around this time he scored a big fat contract extension. When I watched him it always appeared that he was above average but not great, which is fine. Definately worth a long hard look. Emmons = garbage: done and done -
I support Donnie Edwards, if we cant find a better or younger guy then for the right price he would be a gem. ALthough it wouldnt go far in the way of getting stouter up the middle. Edwards is at his best in coverage or in space. Not overly powerful. THe guy is a player though. Plus, its my understanding that hes a high-character guy. Watch out, I wouldnt be surprised if we sign an older vet like Edwards because LB is a position where experience can count for a lot(look at the patsies), furthermore, remember that Marv was the special teams coach for the "over the hill gang"

We couldnt do that with the guys who did stay on the field last year.

Julius Jones possible trade bait....
ROCCEO replied to Rayzer32's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You mean, all-around, as in, everything but receiving and the goal-line? By proven, do you mean "lacks durability", if so , then I recommend trading for JJ. Theres plenty of other routes to go than this one. -
Falcons | Hartwell could be a cap casualty Sun, 11 Feb 2007 11:08:12 -0800 John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports Atlanta Falcons LB Edgerton Hartwell could be a cap casualty this offseason. Now, I know hes had some injury problems, but he was quite good with the Ravens and if he comes for the right price Id say hes vastly better than the gaping hole that is currently staring the bills square in the face.

Calico, you mean the workout warrior who has never done a single damn thing in the NFL in 4 years. Ill pass. Side note: a close friend of mine used to work for the titans and he told me that Calico's knees weren't right the last time he was playing but that when healthy he truly is a beast. And as far as amani toomer, I doubt the giants let him go, they really tanked last year after he got hurt. Some players are worth more than their production and I think Toomer is one of them.
