The guy is injury prone and I cant recall a big game where he shined, perhaps someone could tell me otherwise, but Id be much happier taking michael bush in the 2nd if we're going with an "injury prone" back.
-
I bet willis would get more $$$, hes younger, has more upside and is not in the league substance abuse treatment program.....as far as we know.

As good as Thomas Jones is, hes lacks any truly elite skills. I would say he is an upper eschelon recieving back but hes not super quick/strong/elusive. He is simply a good all around back. Willis is much more of a specimen. Willis is also only like 25. Only 3 seasons of mileage on him and 1 full college season. The knee injury seems to be history. If I were cleveland and I could get McGahee for a 3rd and sign him to an extension then I would definately consider it if not just do it. That would allow them to draft whatever else it is they want instead of wasting the #3 overall pick on an injury prone unproven back. Would McGahee be happy about going to cleveland? probobly not and that is what I believe the biggest hurdle might be.

Brilliantly put, Ive been espousing this notion for a few days now, although perhaps never so clearly. I geuss now Im obligated to say something like "git r dun marv"

Jamal Lewis- still only 27 years old
ROCCEO replied to Buffalo Mike1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well oddly enough TJ was drafted the exact same year as Jamal, 2 picks after him(picks 6 and 8) of round 1. Only TJ never panned out in Arizona , nor tampa, so hes only spent a total of about 4 years as the feature back. Jamal has spent about 5.5 reallly HARD years, remember the rode him like a horse when he was a rookie and then he had the 2000 yard season, plus he went to jail plus his knees are no good. -
.....then who are we gonna have eating sandwiches on the sideline during the game? Perhaps if Marv is on the sideline we could see him eating one of those half sandwiches from teh senior menu from IHOP. Its a good thing IHOP has senior night until 9 on sunday that way Marv and Ralph wouldnt have to leave the game early to catch the deals.(b I know that Ralph hasnt been to a game in a while, these are jokes) Also, its a good thing that didnt happen while Mike Williams was on the team he mighta tried to knock willis out and take it, but its more likely he wouldve whiffed, fallen over the bench and torn his ACL. C'mon everyone, give me your best football related sandwich comments

Jamal Lewis- still only 27 years old
ROCCEO replied to Buffalo Mike1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jamal Lewis has aged about as well as mayo in the sun on a 90 degree day. Seriously, if Jerry Rice were the NFL's Dick Clark then Lewis would have to be John Belushi. And as far as Rosenhaus is concerned, I dont think its always about going out and doing what he does to get the most for his client, its to get the most for himself. Seriously, theres plenty of agents out there who dont mess around but how many do you see on TV on a regular basis or even ever for that matter? -
Who was a bigger hitter? Clements or Winfield?
ROCCEO replied to Hardy Pyle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Antoine was definately the better tackler, guy could snag a greased pig while blindfolded & drunk. Nate could deliver the nasty blow better though. Anyone remember when he crashed into Ricky Williams' knee a few years ago when Ricky ran for like 200+ on us in the first half and we came back to win. As far as most athletic players are concerned, Im surprised nobody mentioned moulds, c'mon, before he became what he is now he was a fantastic athlete, could jumo, run, cut, and power his way to all sorts of good stuff. He averaged like 19.1 ypc one year with FLUTIE tossing the ball I believe. At one time he was also an explosive return man. A friend of mine once played basketball with moulds and said he was downright sick. -
Yeah I believe he has the worst winning percentage of any quarterback in the history of the league(except maybe steve spurrier)

BREAKING NEWS...Signing of the Year!!!
ROCCEO replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Does anyone recall Aveion Black, hailed by the local papers as some type of kick returning jesus, turned out to be all sizzle. As long as we're mentioning old bills scrubb recievers let me toss brad lamb in there. -
BREAKING NEWS...Signing of the Year!!!
ROCCEO replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stubblefield was actually very good for Purdue(i think, maybve it was wisconson) but he was just too damn slow and not big enough to be an NFL possession reciever. -
Samari Rolle used to be a grade-A corner, but he has clearly lost a step and was widely viewed as the biggest question mark in their seconday whent he playoffs rolled around, perhaps hed fare better in the cover 2 but its too hard to tell. Also, anyone who thinks Dominic Rhodes is a better back than Chris Brown is fooling themselves. Rhodes is the definition of average, at best. THink about it, hes always played alongside Peyton Manning, so the threat of the pass was always severely more dangerous when he was in the game AND hes had teh benefit of the colts offensive line his entire career. PLUS, FYI Rhodes is injury prone too & questionable character guy. We must NOT sign him to be anything more than a backup or the 2-back in a timeshare operation.

I highly support this move.
-
LOL matt in dc Also, they have duke preston starting at RG, which I pray to god doesnt happen unless the Duke really turns it on in the offseason. Something tells me the duke is best suited as a backup though.

Im glad we didnt hire him as our coach though, he literally drove GB right into the ground.

Chris Brown is coming to Buffalo tomorrow for a visit...
ROCCEO replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Honestly, I dont know why they soured so quickly on CB in Nashville, but I have a close friend who used to work for the Titans, next time we talk Ill try to clarify. In the past he has enlightened me as to what was why certain players werent reaching potential (Tank Williams/Tyrone Calico: both tried to come back from knee injuries too quickly) and over a year ago he told that Pacman was "a freakin clown". So Im sure he would have some insight. I would feel plenty good about the Brown/Rhodes backfield except for the fact that both are somewhat injury proine, but then again its not like Willis and A-train are ironmen. It would be especially good for a 1-season or so thing. I do think it would be best to pick up a back on day 1 though if McGahee isnt going to be our long term guy, because its priceless to be able to have a set of "triplets" -
Something tells me that it bothers us a lot more than it bothers him.

Definately, anyone who has trouble understanding marvs moves should read his book. Since reading it it has made me see these things much more clearly. Plus, its a good read.
-
That is definately a sound line of thiking, however, that doesnt really do us any good as a team if we keep him, play him and still dont get compensated next year. Whereas if we unload him now to a team in the NFC that we'd never have to play and we get anything in return itd be better than just delaying the inevitable(ie: finding a suitable replacement). So if we'r truly still rebuilding then that would be the correct move, but if they think we've got a playoff run coming, then i see keeping him. Generally when your already porous defense loses 2 of its top starters, that is indicitive of a team that is likely not done rebuilding.(as much as I want it not to be true).

You all make good points. Losman does have a cannon, it was said that Green Bay was enamored with him before the draft and would likely select him. we picked him first though and they went on to pick Ahmad Carroll I believe. He has that Favre-esque cannon, where it just seems like it hurts to catch some of his passes. If you can get recievers with good hands who can pul those in, its a great thing, because when Favre had that he didnt throw nearly as many INTs as now, where half his INTS just involve a hard-thrown ball tha bounces off his guys hands into the air, the other half aare just bad decisions at this point. He also seems to have that favre confidence. And I apologize but I dont think its allowable to mention those 2 guys together without saying something about how much JP likes when Brett doesnt wear a shirt. God I wish that story had never ran. But yes, he can chuck the ball, on the first Evans 83 yarder vs Houston, he gets 7 or 8 man blitzed, which is picked up about as well as that type of thing couldve been by last years line, but hes movin around then with a guy IN HIS FACE launches the ball 55-60 yards downfield OFF HIS BACK FOOT to Lee Evans IN STRIDE. I must've watched that play about 50 times on my DVR. Hes got an arm, hes mobile and his pocket awareness is improving. DId any of you guys notice that towards the 2nd half of the year he stopped taking as many of those -12 and -15 yard sacks? I think the mental part is starting to come. He bought a house down the street there off Elmwood , so it seems like hes interested in being our long term answer. I love it, especially with the new line. There may be more true cause for optimism in B-lo now than there has been in a while and it has more to do with JP than anything. I apologize for that minor dissertation to all whove read it.

Better a supposed star player who the players all are aware of as overrated or a malcontent than a true legitimate star player acting that way.

Chris Brown is coming to Buffalo tomorrow for a visit...
ROCCEO replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
See my post in the "McGahee Trade" thread for more on that line of thinking. Anyhow, I love the thought of bringing CHris Brown in. He runs high and takes some hits but the guy can get it done. In 2004 the Titans let Eddie George and the giant fork in his back walk on down the road, however, i doubted this Chris Brown guy. THat august i attended a presason game at the ralph vs the titans. On that day I realized Chris Brown had the talent to start at RB for us. Always looking for the extra edge, I drafted him a little high in my fantasy league, 6th or 7th round that year. I was ridiculed, for the better part of the next 2 mnths i destroyed people because Chris Brown was a god, staying on pace with my #1 back, Edge. I then traded CB, but the point is. He only really got to start that one year, 2 years ago him and Travis split time and he was hurt sometimes. Last year he was a bit of a malcontent , but I understand, when you played the way he did to not be given a 2nd chance to prove yourself as "the guy" probobly doesnt sit too well with one. The point is this: Brown has the skills, enough speed, burst and vision with enough power to get it done. You throw him in there as a 1-2 punch with a potential bruiser and it could be a very dangerous backfield. Plus, CB has decent(but not great) hands out of the backfield. I would love to see us sign this guy for a relative bargain, even if its only a 1 year deal to buy us some time before marv finds the next thurman or whatever it is he's lookin for. Personally I feel as though you could pus any kind of back behind this line and we'd be successful, but I think we'll do best with a 1-cut and go, balanced type back who can catch. A Broncos-type guy or like a Tiki Barber, Shaun Alexander. The point is, I believe that outside of physical attributes, vision will probobly be the most critical factor for whatever back we have. As far as that goes, I feel that sometimes McGahee has it, and sometimes he just doesnt. -
I also wanted to add, that I am in the "let him run for his life" camp. I understand Willis is not and likely never will be, a high character guy, but its not like all the 90s bills were saints. however, if Willis comes out, stays healthy and puts up 1500+ yards and 12-18 TDs, then he'll definately be worth AT LEAST a 2nd round pick if we franchise him. This whole situation, it is what it is. Does willis have potential? a ton, yes. It must be realized though that good backs are a dime a dozen and they dont need to be first round picks either. Recall that the best back in our franchises history was a 2nd round pick.

I dont want to sound like Soprano, nor do I nessessarily agree with what Im about to say, but I recently recieved information from an inside source(legit) that he heard from a seperate(and very integral) department at One Bills Drive that McGahee AND Spikes are as good as done with the Bills(of course if there are no buyers, no deal gets done), that the Bills are just hoping to get two draft picks in return for them. I did not have any more time to inquire as to what pick they would take, but im guessing a 3rd or higher would probobly get it done for McGahee and Spikes could go for anywhere from a 3rd to a 6th.

Analyzing the RB situation in the NFL
ROCCEO replied to JimBob2232's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First of all, Cadillac is not available. They drafted him 2 years ago and last year was just a disaster for the Bucs, I think they're just gonna look ahead from this point . Gruden Loves cadillac, hes not going anywhere. Ok, I firmly believe that in terms of sheer ability McGahee is clearly superiior to many of the backs out there. That means, teams that need a RB 1. Giants 2. Tennessee 3. Green Bay 4. Cleveland 5. Baltimore 6. Tampa Bay (I'll throw them in here) 7. Buffalo (Also throw them in due to losing mcgahee to make this feasible) So thats it. 7 teams. What RBs are available?I will give what I feel the negatives on each player is or if they are better than WM IMO then it will also be noted 1. Willis McGahee-Fornicating nitwit who cant read a playbook 2. Cadillac Williams-Unavailable 3. Jamal Lewis-Getting slower and older more rapidly than most: that time in prison really did him well. 4. Adrian Peterson-unproven/injury prone 5. Marshawn Lynch-unproven, comes from PAC-10, where Defense isnt exactly emphasized 6. Micheal Bush-Unproven,slightly injury prone 7. Kenny Irons-Unproven and smallish too I believe. 8. Chris Brown-Injury Prone and possible sissy(although a hell of a runner when healthy) 9. Corey Dillon- Old + injury prone + slowing down 10. Ruben Droughns- Hes just plain overrated 11. Correll Buchalter-His injury history makes Dan Morgan look like Brett Favre 12. Ladell Betts- Has not proven he can handle 16 game beating. 13. Dominick Rhodes-Drunk who supposedly pees on himself, is great at no one thing but very good all around. 14. Micheal Turner-Probobly the only guy on this list who may turn out to be better than WM, again, has not shown that he can handle a full load 15. Kevin Barlow- Only performs like a starter when hes backing someone up. Cant handle criticism, thatd work out real well in WNY 16. Fred Taylor-Not Available, just signed extension, plus hes super injury prone. Just because we traded the pick used on him in exchange for Rob Johnson means that we want him back. 17. Anthony Thomas-Good grinder but no WM. BTW: you left out LaMont Jordan, who seems to also suffer from Kevan Barlow syndrome. As you see I gave up making things bold at a ceratin point.
