Rachel Nichols.....looks like she is dirty...
ROCCEO replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What, no rohypnol? (if only darrell russell weren't dead it would be a great place for "insert darrell russell comment here") -
Its an idiotic argument. People sit around and clamour for Turner then the other faction comes in with the backlash, "oh hes gonna cost too much", maybe, but then you cant support us drafting peterson, even if he fell to 12 hed likely be asking for a lot more $$$ than Ngata got last year bc hes an offensive playmaker. I know that its structred but that doesnt stop peoples demands and to be honest if you were ADs agent, wouldnt you try to squeeze the most out of that lemon as possible before another bone snaps without contact. THe 2nd argument against turner is: "lets get a rookie with no miles on his tires". This is the one that bothers me, TUrner has a total of 3 years in the league, very light workload, but enough to tell if talent is there. We dont know if he can play every down but as a poster stated the other day he will definatley be part of a 2 back system, so its not like all the weight would be on him. The biggest problem with the argument is that come september these are a lot of the same folks who willb e saying, "oh but we're going with a rookie RB, he could use time to work on blocking, routes etc". Turner has had this time, hes studied behind THE BEST DAMN GUY IN THE GAME for 3 years. I support trading for turner very much, but not if it involves giving up more than a 2nd round pick(IMO a swap of firsts is too much because we would not then be able to select one of the last elite prospects on the board). The idea is that it would likely be hard to draft a back better than turner in the 2nd round and I cant help but agree with that thinking. A lot of people on here have been saying, "well this is a deep RB class and there are plenty of guys to choose from". I disagree. Last year was a very deep draft at RB. 2 years ago, the draft was deep at RB. This year there are 2 near-elite prospects and about 5-7 more guys who grade out as day 1 picks. Could I be wrong? definately. The one thing that bodes well if we draft a late first day RB to start is that our OL should resemble a steamroller. I got way off topic on this one. Sorry. The point is I believe that if we can snag turner for a 2nd rounder (or even a swap of 2nds and a third next year) that it would allow us to field the best team because we would still have a chance to draft Patrick Willis or trade back and pick up Puz(Poz, pus, puss, whatever you wanna call him) or address other positions of need. Imagine if our draft looked something like this: 1(trade back): Robert Meachum 2: Michael Turner 2(acquired through trade down): David Harris or Jason Durant. 3a-Daymeion Hughes. or 1: Patrick Willis 2: Turner 3a: Anthony Gonzales, Steve Smith, Craig Davis etc. or a CB. I think that would address our needs most sufficiently. In either scenario we could choose an upper eschelon player with our first pick, fill needs with our top 3(one of them being Turner RB) and use our final 3rd rounder to either move around in the draft or sit on it and choose the absolute best player available for depth. Jeez, I think i just turned into the type of poster whose been driving me nuts lately. Time for a TBD break.

restricted free agent compensation
ROCCEO replied to 3 left feet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In 2000 we wouldve been better of just signing all RFAs instead of drafting. -
I think moss could survive playing DE on a cover 2 team which rushes their ends upfield a lot. He could also succeed as a rush linebacker. Coverage skills for both him and woodley are unkown at this point. As for woodley, I am a michigan fan(went to pasadena to see them get romped by USC) and I dont believe it is a lack of desire with Woodley. He is slightly undersized for a DE. Natural pass-rusher who plays with tremendous intensity. Good leadership abilities. Tended to disappear at times against top notch competition. Woodley would be a fine pick outside of the first round for some team. He could be a force in a 3-4 though. Its hard to tell with these tweeners, sometimes they turn out as good LBs(terrell suggs, joey porter, shawne merrimen), somtimes horrible LBs, otehr times they are kept at end and excel despite their size(freeney, KGB, Leonard LIttle). Im pretty sure that woodley doesnt have character issues though. BTW I loved that basketball game last night, Florida giving it to OSU twice in 3.5 months, sorry buckeyes fans.

Looks like the Packers are out of the Turner sweepstakes
ROCCEO replied to seq004's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Someone needs to kidnap AJ smith, put a gun to his head and make him trade us turner for the ravens third round pick this year and our fifth next year. Get Em!!! TURNER THE BURNER!!! -
I think Marv has been poking around and everybody knows it but that interest hasnt been focused enough in one place to nessessitate specific comments.

I just got on.....but....post of the day? -
Yeah he certainly was not very good, Id say average to slightly below average as a guard. Inadequate as a tackle. I think that the RFA tenders & corresponding compensation takes care of that whole situation.

What about trading for Tatum Bell or Kevin Jones?
ROCCEO replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
George Foster is an Offensive Tackle. -
What about trading for Tatum Bell or Kevin Jones?
ROCCEO replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kevin Jones sucks but i wouldnt be surprised to see us make a play for tatum bell if the cost is slight. -
Agreed. Maybe it was the airport bar.

Thats very interseting and Ive never heard of it before.

Add Dallas and Jets to the Turner sweepstakes.
ROCCEO replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would say the jets are out and the giants have Brandon Jacobs who is promising as well as Droughns. I think both teams are far more likely to draft a back than trade for one. As for dallas, you make a good point about wade phillips. However, Jerry jones is the one with all the say in Big D so unless JJ wasnts him Turner wont be coming there. Also, Jones was good for a little while, but he seemed to fall out of favor with parcells while Marion Barber did nothing but shine. If they are making a move I would assume it would be to make Barber their 1a, which would then make little sense for the boys to trade for turner. Realistically I think its us, tennessee and GB. Cleveland could get into it i think, as could Atlanta. Either way itll all be figured out by may. -
Relax, at this time next year he'll be someone elses problem.(now that I said that, we're gonna draft him and in a year someone will seach this post and toss it in my face). Plenty of folks have those it seems. Wouldnt that hurt his draft status.
-
Just becuase marv doesnt say something to him doesnt mean its not true or that he didnt hear it elsewhere. But we could also be dealing with a member of the soprano family here.
-
Seriously, I only post on this board(or on woot! during woot-offs), but Ive perused plenty of other teams boards as wells as message boards for other things and this really is the easiest to navigate/read/etc.
-
Look what you did you little jerk!!!
-
The Merriman special I have noticed this as well. We also know that Jim Leonhard is likely only a stopgap solution even as a reserve(although he played well against the jets). Marv has a reputation for liking secondary players. I wholeheartedly agree, dont be surprised if we draft one or even two safeties.(likely both on day 2)

If the guy on the block was Urlacher Id have more interest. I'd rather see us do this with turner than with briggs I think, for multiple reasons. We'd probobly be a lot better off with patrick willis.
-
God I dont want to bump this thread, but no thanks. Briggs could turn out to be a dud in the end. Not worth 20 million guaranteed. Nuh uh.
-
Those pictures of Holcomb with the sunglasses on are priceless.
-
Yeah that was him, a sweet play indeed.

Did DR have a rough background or do you think they are just similar players, because at the point, Willis is a far better pro prospect than Ryans was a year ago. Now, Ryans has proven himself in the NFL, a minor detail. My vote goes to head-ripper. Ray Lewis of course beingt he king of the head hunters. WHen i was in college and my buddies and I all played madden 2002 we used to call LaVar Arrington "the rapist". Has anyone else ever made up nicknames for star players?

I once asked some of the staff of OBD during a rare Q and A opportunity why they cut Lionel but kept shaud on the roster. The response I got was something like, "certain guys can read a playbook once and know it front to back, some guys have to be wlaked through each and every play". So basically they were saying lionel was stupid, but Im sure there were signs of this type of thing too.

Its not impossible to stop the run with the cover two, look at the bears last year. For the most part their DTs are under 300 lbs. Tommie Harris goes about 280 and hes one of the best in the league. Tampa has been notoriously hard to run on for years. They also have done it with a smaller d-line.
