My least favorite defensive play was Ko Simpson completely neglecting a ball over the middle that was 10 yards overthrown and instead begging to get flagged with a personal foul (which ultimately wasn't called). I'm not sure why we don't blitz the safties if they're going to be that useless in coverage.

I personally couldn't bring myself to even open the Lindell threads. I mean forget about losing 10-9, would winning 12-10 and not scoring a TD against the 49ers at home really bolster anyone's playoff hopes? Oiy. I think you're a little tough on the defense. Yah they missed tackles and blew some coverages and long-term the pass-rush sucks, but they played well today and I've seen them criticized a lot less when they play worse in winning efforts. I mean not mentioning QB play probably results in better thread discussion, but lets be honest, these home losses against bad teams are about the QB play.

Emotion, intensity and attitude.

Really? I'm 28 and it doesn't make my Top 10. -
I'd take him in a heartbeat. People have short memories about how many SB winners were at one time considered chokers: Landry, Cowher, Dungy, even Coughlin to name a few... Also Football Outsiders has done a nice analysis on how when a bad coach takes over a new team, it doesn't really show up until Year 2, which cements the absurdity of the popular idea last January that Norv Turner was some kind of upgrade.

Epic fail for this, and also for chickening out on Denver who I hate this year....but they would've been +6 or less @Jets at any point thru the 1st 10 weeks, but it ballooned to 9 due to last week's results... Not sure WTF happened to this GB defense. Thumbs up to Oakland for predictably vomiting on themselves in their backyard vs. a hated rival.

Why would Cowher want to coach in the NFL again?
BuffOrange replied to stuckincincy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sigh, a few years ago I stopped getting suckered into responding to spin-doctoring semantic lovers on the internet who always have to cleverly accuse somebody of twisting what they say whenever they get called on a nonsense post... I'm arguing about the average flash in the pan players that you thought were important enough to mention by name, which you're now backpedaling on. That is all. -

Limited time = ~15 years or so? How many franchises haven't had 3+ WR's better than Randle freaking El over that span, or 2+ RB's better than Foster/Morris? Certainly the lowly Bills have. -
Nah he was easy to hate when he went off on Lynn Swann for no reason at halftime of the LSU game in '02. "#2 defense what are you talking about? We're the #1 defense. We're killing ourselves with turnovers". Umm Bob LSU has made more mistakes than you and you're getting your butt kicked...shut up.

Are you kidding me? This reads like a Crayonz post. If you're going to make this talent argument you can surely come up with 4 names who are twice the players of Barry Foster, Bam Morris, Randle El, and Willie Parker. -

He is a football coach. Football coaches don't know what else to do with their lives. -
I don't want to go all Bill Clinton, but what is "It's"? I mean, can you maybe post the link to that quote to provide some context?

Most important thing is that Bush is more likely to put up better #'s. Not so important but not totally insignificant is that you could be the guy who started Fred Jackson over Reggie Bush in your playoffs.

Yah OU's D sucks; good thing they got 1,000 tip balls to go their way tonight.... I don't really care much for Mack Brown and his shameless campaigning (both now and in '04 when Cal was robbed). I still agree w/ Herbstreit that Texas deserves a better Bowl than OU. If OU is going to get "style points" credit for margin of victory/defeat, is that same treatment going to be given to Alabama should they lose to Florida in OT? Somehow I doubt it. Win the neutral field game in Dallas, Jesus.

2008-9 Syracuse University Basketball Thread
BuffOrange replied to bills44's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yah Tennessee hit a ridiculous # of luckbox bankshots. UVA at home is definitely not an impressive win (they don't have anybody who can make a shot), but at this point in the season it's more about the result and less about style points...huge relief to avoid the typical Syracuse letdown loss. I thought Jackson missed more gimmes than Harris. Not really worried about good FT shooters struggling from the line. I am worried about the ongoing deplorable defensive rebounding. Every time Onaku has to rotate and challenge a shot, there's nobody to rebound on the weak side....we're going to get mauled by Uconn/Pitt if that doesn't get fixed. -

Bigtime win. Two things that suck right now are defensive rebounding and Devendorf. Overall you got to love the look of this team though. -
Tough slate this week imo. Uncharacteristically going with some road favorites, Bob Matthews style. Week 13 Tennessee -11 @ Detroit - The Lions were honestly my last pick to miss my cut of official picks last week, which I temporarily regretted when they went up 17-0 but then somehow didn't cover +9....usually a team that has big home/road splits but they have sucked in their building this year and the Titans are of course an unphased road club. Tough to not see this getting ugly given the Titans #1 pass defense against the only thing Detroit has going for them - Megatron. KC +3 @ Oakland - This probably would've been a pick 'em if it were played last week, so what the hell - I'll take the points in the battle of dreads. I like both of these teams better on the road ATS: the Raiders because they suck at home, and the Chiefs who have inexplicably become a better road than Arrowhead team under Herm (who also had a better road record with the Jets iirc). Interesting trend I've noticed: The 4 Thursday night teams have all won outright as road dogs the following week off 10 days rest: Denver@ATL, Cleve@Buff, NYJ@Tenn, and NE@Mia. Haven't paid attention to how Dallas & Detroit have historically done after Thanksgiving, so we won't pull the trigger on Pittsburgh +1 @ NE. Last Week: 3-1 YTD: 24-13 Saturday Edit: Removing the Giants (somehow the line hasn't moved since this Plax incident?) We will add: Green Bay -3 vs. Carolina - Still believe in this Packer team as the eventual division champ. Carolina hasn't shown much away from home this year despite the John Fox pedigree of playing better away from home most years.

Interesting Link: Bills Playoff Chances

The schedules of the Colts & Pats say otherwise. -
This officiating is a joke.

WTF @ calling time out? My God Norv makes Jauron look bright.

I don't necessarily disagree w/ these comments, but what exactly did you guys expect? Aren't 4-3 MLB's supposed to be solid? I mean those that are consistently gamechangers usually end up in Canton, right?

I didn't like him and wasn't terribly sad to see him leave. As for these highlight show guys ripping him for going for the ball instead of the man at the 5 yard line, meh, I think it's worth the risk to go for the strip in that spot...
