Did It Occur To Anyone Else Watching Last Night's Game....
BuffOrange replied to MattM's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not really sure what you're saying. There are lots of these posts every year where people watch other games and pick out something a good team does better than the Bills and says that's a blueprint for winning. Well there's lots of things good teams do better: they're better coached, they rush the QB, their offense makes an occasional play, their best player is somebody other than their punter... You're right NE isn't on the level of those teams defensively. They're every bit as good overall though. Plus their secondary sucked last year but you wouldn't have known it watching the Bills games (no weather excuse for the Foxboro game last yr). -
Rating the importance of games

I see what yur driving at but see it a little differently. Since we don't have the gift of the AFC & NFC West on our schedule again this year, beating the Dolphins, Jets, and Browns at home (or Toronto) is something we have to do simply not have a top 4 draft pick. Losing any of those games just means we'll be 4-12 instead of 5-11. In other words they're like the anti Pats road game. Key games for a miracle season I think are the ones where we'd be a slight dog if Vegas were to set a line this week: Jags, Chiefs, Texans, and Saints. Must also go 3-1 vs. Jets/Fish. -
Ben just isn't the same QB when he doesn't have an "average on his best day starting WR" and a washed up RB like Randle El and Bettis. Or at least those were the posts I was arguing with three years ago when he was playing hurt all year. Think the pendulum has swung a bit too much in the other direction now. It's a little easier to be "clutch" when your defense gives up 10 points.

Pleasantly surprised by most of the replies here. It's incredibly easy to criticize announcers. I'm not above doing it myself seeing as how most of them suck. But if you include Collinsworth who is actually good in the sucky group, well, you're partially at fault for why most announcers suck. Kudos to both primetime networks for putting together a solid booth this year. God knows the Bills games are going to be broadcast by clowns most weeks.

Even money, yes. Even # of bettors, no. Most people don't understand the difference. Not surprisingly the line isn't approaching 14 as predicted itt.

If yur just talking this week it's Driver for sure.

You forgot Shannahan to KC.
-
Chambers is the clear matchup play. I think. As long as Asomugha is on VJax.
-
I happen to like Jackson enough that I would start him here even though he has a worse matchup than the other WR's. Wait and see if Sanchez doesn't look like a deer in headlights first, and/or if Morgan is worth all the sleeper buzz. That would be my concern too. If he's able to produce an average game Monday night I'd feel pretty good about playing him vs. KC and Denver the next couple weeks though.

Good job by Shannon kicking the squib with 2 minutes. Bowden well we already knew he was a clown. Lets run the longest developing play possible so that we don't get a 2nd play with 5 seconds left. And then the announcers: the missed xp was huge because it would've made, oh, zero difference whatsoever after FSU made the 2pter. And there's obv. no difference between 1 chance to win and 3 chances. God, so much fail.

Would you drop Matt Cassell and pick up Matthew Stafford?

Whoever you got in the 4th round was a steal. Should have an ok RB2 by committee. I'd gone RB or WR where you got Winslow and Ryan. 10 teams - C 12 teams - B+

That's not even a remotely accurate assessment of how oddsmakers work.

I would bet my entire bankroll that won't happen barring injury.

Alright, 29-25 last year after a slow finish. We used to avoid opening day but screw that, there's probably more value in betting early season games. It took Vegas a while to realize the Ravens & Titans were any good last year. So lets go - all lines taken from pinnacle. Week 1 Tampa Bay + 5.5 vs. Dallas - I see two mediocre teams here. Edge to Dallas but laying this # on the road I don't get. Washington +6.5 @ NYG - With the lack of weapons in the Giants passing game I think Haynesworth & co. can contain their offense enough to keep this game close. The Skins were nearly 4-0 vs. Philly/Dallas last year with a couple big road wins before Portis broke down physically (and Campbell mentally) but had a tough time with NY. The # is just good enough to take for me as homefield doesn't mean a ton here. Cincy -4.5 vs. Denver - Obv. liked this better when it was -3 a couple weeks ago. While often a contrarian I'm in the crowded "Denver will suck" camp this year. I'm liking me some Bengals otoh this year if Palmer is healthy as defensively they weren't that bad last year. OL may have some issues but the Broncos front 7 is unlikely to exploit that. Green Bay -3.5 vs. Chicago - Another 'wish I layed 3 a couple weeks ago' line but what the hell; would've won most games I shyed away from last year. Packers are a SB contender imo who was ravaged by injuries last year. I honestly have no idea what to expect from the Bears but they were lucky to get a split in this series last year with a better/healthier team.

SU Orangemen QB Greg Paulus First College Game Stats!
BuffOrange replied to PearlHowardman's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yah he played like 2 minutes per game last year because he played alright and melted in the clutch.... Either that or he was incapable of guarding virtually every DI PG. -
Such an epic fail. GG 2009 football.
-
Would love to see them pull this out if for nothing else to give me a reason to watch/care about future games. Been a tad on the unlucky side so far with the high snap, the offsetting penalties that cost us 4 pts, and the false start that gave them 4 points... Like our chances right now.

Not sure how many of these guys I like in a TD heavy league other than Jacobs. Don't really see a blue-chip 4th/5th round pick unless this is year 2 or 3 of the keeper league. Again with the multiple kickers and defenses.... C-
-
I hope its 12 teams. 3 RBs and 2 TE/K/D's is like really bad. Don't like Turner 1st either. D+
-
Nothing sexy but no real glaring weaknesses which is tough to pull off in a 12team league so I like it. The only pick I can say I hate is Harvin. B
-
You guys are in some awesome leagues if they're for $. Turner & Fitz are gifts. I'd probably prefer WR 3rd and RB 4th in your case. Addai is a little early for me but real good RB depth. Gonzo & Avery great value. B+
-
Yah the James Davis bandwagon is filling up fast. He's gone from off the draft radar to Fred Jackson's ADP in a couple weeks. Trying to decide if I should drop Galloway for him.
-
Could be wrong but I feel like some of you guys are going to WR heavy in ppr's. MJD is a no-brainer there. Is Britt really worth more than a 5th RB? You're never gonna play the dude. Also there's a 0% chance I would ever have Winslow on any of my teams this yr. But whatever I'm nitpicking - disgusting team. Two RB1's, two RB2's, a WR1, a WR2, and two WR3's. A-
