  1. Wow. If Mike McCarthy is that great why did his 49ers offense rank dead last his last year there? And why did Jimmy Johnson get bludgeoned by Denver/Jacksonville when he went to Miami? And why did Billick's offense consistently stink in Baltimore after being awesome in Minnesota? And why has Martz bounced around the league since St Louis? And why is NE's offense always awesome no matter who their coordinator is whether it's Weiss, McDaniels, and whoever it is now?
  2. The 2011 squad, sure. I was referring to the average performance in his tenure in each respective place. They did pretty well in '09 and improved dramatically from the year before (though they did get absurdly lucky in takeaways and he got too much credit for that but whatever, that's the way it goes). You can argue the talent was below average when he was in Wash too and they did play 1year of very good D when they made the playoffs. The rest was very ordinary at best, which was to be expected without a real pass-rusher. In Buffalo the D stunk when the players stunk in '01 & '02 and they got much better when they upgraded the talent in '03. I think when you look at the big picture of his career he averages out to an average coordinator. Maybe that sounds like I'm defending him now, which I don't really mean to...I wasn't one of the blowhards in the media crediting him with "being opportunistic" and "emphasizing takeaways" (basically code words for 'being lucky') like the Aikman's of the world were doing two years ago.
  3. I doubt any mental hangover from the Giants loss 4 weeks ago accounted for 33pts in the Dallas game. But ya not a real worthwhile thread. The Cowboys could've held on to a 12pt lead at home with 5min's left.
  4. Make excuses instead of eat crow; kinda like the kool-aid drinking Jerry haters have been doing for the last 10 years?
  5. Ha, pretty sure they were favored vs. Denver. Baltimore was close to a pk I think?
  6. Exactly - you might as well replace "Bills fans" with "everybody" and it makes sense. I'm not sure why there's 3 pages of arguing about the rules and erroneous comparisons to the Megatron play in Chicago last year. In my 25 years of watching football you've always needed to have 2 feet down in the endzone. Johnson did that which made that call bizarre, Evans did not.
  7. Haha, ya, both games choked away in epic fashion. I had a feeling that loser was going to fumble another one. I was surprised Harbaugh let him field the punt with 20 or so seconds left in regulation.
  8. And my point is you're not entitled to win 100% of your heart-stopping finishes. The Bills were 2-3 in such games. NE was 1-2.
  9. Is this a joke? We were 2-3 in "games that easily could've gone the other way". Even if you want to include the Ten/Mia games which is a major stretch, you then also have to include the Eagles game which was much more in doubt than either of them in the final minutes.
  10. They were also 7-0 against 8-8 teams, all of whom would've had a winning record had they lost those games. And with the exception of Dallas they won them all fairly easily, many of them on the road. If they had held on against the Giants, they wouldn't have had a winning record either.
  11. Not a GW fan but that's a bit harsh. He was bad in Buffalo with bad players. He was average in Wash & NO with average players. He was good in Tenn with good players. So he's pretty much like every other coordinator. Every analyst on the planet could not stop gushing about his magical ability to force turnovers 2yrs ago as Favre & Peterson handed NO the NFC championship game. I guess he stopped emphasizing takeaways in practice sometime last year.
  12. Giants & Pats. I base this solely on the fact that I hope the Giants & Pats lose and the NFL hates me.
  13. Debates like this are stupid. The fact that anyone's top 10 list of OCs & DCs would look drastically different on a yearly basis ought to tell you something - they don't matter.
  14. Agree with this (except for the Levy part).
  15. Could not agree more. Don't forget the Palmer injury too. The reason that game was in Cincy was because they went into Pittsburgh towards the end of the reg. season and threw the ball all over the field. Then in the playoff game he completes a 60 yard bomb on the first play of the game when he got his knee ripped up. There was also a phantom hold which took away a 1st&goal at the 1 which preceded an int that otherwise never would have happened. Hard to argue it is the most 1sided butchered big game in modern history, and not just in the pacific northwest.
  16. Poojer aren't you in Philly? The Marquette game's on PHL17.
  17. Well that's kinda my point - Temple is a decent team on par with Cincinnati - better than anyone we play on the road this year sans L'ville & Uconn. That wasn't really a huge upset to me. Too early to say. I was a big Flynn fan and he was a really good player but he never really dominated until the Big East Tourney run in his 2nd yr (which included the 6ot game of course). I think if Waiters stays another year he'll be remembered as a better player.
  18. I don't know if I've gotten spoiled or it's just the Big East being down this year - I can usually enjoy the ride; but this is the first time I've ever had a "lets get on to March feeling" about the team. I don't even have that feeling that we're going to blow a game in the Dome to one of these teams we shouldn't, even after seeing it happen just about every year of my life.
  19. Look at the teams in the playoffs that aren't the 49ers - clearly they are the anomaly.
  20. No, you have to read too much into one game because mediocre players never play good games.
  21. Did Holmes really do the "bird flap" down 28-10 after he choked away 2 TD's? That makes Stevie Johnson's antics look like Jerry Rice. What a punk loser.
  22. Plus it was on the east coast. I don't think the first true road game is until Louisville in February.
  23. Very nice win. No wonder Duke wins the ACC tournament every year - this is the sort of crappy team they normally play in the semi's.
  24. Even if #4 is #5 shouldn't he still be #4 if #3 is bogus?
