I'm tired of mistakingly clicking on Bob Matthews editorials
BuffOrange replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haha I usually defend Sully/Schopp/Bulldog when people start these threads but Matthews sure does stink. -
Haha, classic false/irrational nostalgia. In a game with 5 players on the floor, 1 good player has always made a huge difference whether it's 1952, 1982, or 2012.

This.

I pretty much think the opposite. Vanderbilt & Wisconsin have flaws (what team seeded lower than 1 or 2 doesn't?) but they are arguably the two best 4-5 seeds in the field. Even Kansas St as an 8 is no picnic. I think Cincy loses to Texas and Ohio St walks to the Elite 8.

I had forgotten about this thread. I deeply apologize to everyone who was so offended that I didn't give a detailed explanation on a Tuesday afternoon; please forgive me. Yah this is how I look at it. He's a nice player, sure but he's a perfect fit for the Chargers offense. Rivers despite having his worst season last year is still really good, and he didn't miss a beat in 2010 throwing to nobodies when VJax was out. And in today's nfl young WR's are making an impact in their 1st-2nd years more than ever before. How will this signing look 2-3 years from now when Fitz is gone and we're grooming a young QB with a high priced north of 30 WR? I'd be all for Mario. More elite at his position, a more important position, and a position of more need for the Bills. He'll cost a lot but as Bill Barnwell pointed out in his article yesterday he's still better value for us than some middling FA we'd have to overpay to come to Buffalo (see Dockery, Derrick).

I don't really care about losing in this tournament but the way we lost this game is discouraging imo. Sure you can say they started out shooting lights out but in the end we shot almost as well from 3, thanks mostly to 1 guy but still... The 3's didn't lose us the game, they kept us in the game. It's like when a predominantly rushing team gets behind and the average QB brings them back with a career day, and people blame the coordinator for throwing too much. The real problem was we had no answers for their zone (ie our running game got stuffed) and just could not get any good interior looks. You have to give Cincy credit, but we will see better teams in the 2nd weekend of the ncaa's. Agree w/ Poojer on the officials - they were bad for both teams so no excuses there. I really hope KJo & Fair were hurt/sick more than they let on and are good to go next week. Boeheim is always so eager to ridicule the 'Scoop haters' whenever he has a good game, yet the 5th yr senior has given him nothing 3 straight games. It's hard to believe a few more MCW minutes would be a bad idea. But that's not going to change at this point so what can you do.

We could beat anyone including them but yah, those are the only two teams we wouldn't be favored against, I agree.

Now Greg Williams is a cheater?

Sorry if this was asked already, but why didn't our defense hit anybody for the 3 years he was here? -
The only negative to a season like this is it makes the big east tourney a bit anti-climatic. Just looking forward to selection sunday. Hopefully UNC isn't the 2seed in Boston. They look nasty.
-
Bump for Big East champs! Pretty sick we only won it outright once in 30years with all those great teams and have now won it twice in three years.

It'd be one thing if rebounding was merely a weakness, but 378th aka 2nd worst in D1 in defensive rebounding - that is worse than a weakness. It's hard to believe it won't cost us at some point. Though the nice thing about being a 1seed is you can get to the Elite 8 playing your C+/B- game and from there it's often a "which team shoots better" sort of crapshoot.

Football outsiders assessment of Bills needs
BuffOrange replied to buffaloaggie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Apparently, yes? I thought it was common knowledge a "playmaking wr" was a guy who is a threat to haul in a 40yd catch at any given time - either through the air or yac. Yet the guy arguing Nelson's a playmaker insists there's a defender draped all over him every catch he makes -
By everyone you mean everyone except the few of us who are ridiculed for suggesting that QB and pass-rushers dwarf coordinators in importance by a mile.

IDK, the 3s we missed were not exactly good, open looks that we just missed like the wvu game; I thought L'ville's D was pretty good. They clearly do not have a backup PG. The continuation on Fab's and 1 was hilariously bad; IDK what Fair otoh has to do to get a call. A fairly standard Jim Burr game. Lol @ our Guards being too small.
-
Basketball can be a funny game. I'm reading lost of KJo love and CJ hate but basically, 1 guy made open shots and the other didn't (Fair had 4 more rebounds). I still want Fair taking the open mid-range jumper because I know he can make it. I mean kudos to KJo but he was due to break out of his shooting slump. I thought we were lucky G'town missed so many open 3s in the 1st half, though the 2 Clark shots at the end were sorta ridiculous. IDK what to say about the rebounding. As Boeheim said in the presser we're just not going anywhere with that.

Bills most disappointing loss since the Super Bowls
BuffOrange replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Heh, me too. It may sound silly to a Bills fan in 2011, but I'd never been so sure of anything. We didn't lose home playoff games to Montana or Marino or Elway or Moon and now we're playing an expansion team who needed a miraculous Morten Anderson missed chipshot to get in? It seemed like a lock. Once the initial shock wore off though it was sort of "well, if we couldn't beat this team at home then where were we going". If the Titans were the better team they did not play like it on that day. The refs handed them 6pts at the end of the 1st half. McNair couldn't throw for 100 yards on our defense. Watching them win in Indy & Jax and then almost in the SB only made it worse. -
I think you nailed it. I think it's silly when people say "officiating and/or luck even out during a game" or even during a season. But it does have a decent shot of evening out over a decade. The '01 team was incredibly lucky to win all 3 of their postseason games. The Rams rolled up twice as much yardage and shot themselves in the foot. Tennessee really outplayed them in '03. And the idiot Carolina kicker boots the ball out of bounds and gives them the ball on the 40. They lost the permanent horseshoe stuck up their behinds in that '05 Denver game where the breaks finally started going the other way. Poor drafting is another reasonable explanation. Coordinators are not.

Rodgers and Brees stink too. -

I suppose it's these intellectually inferior Bills fans who are to blame for drafting crappy players on defense instead of good players on defense? Makes sense, particularly as 9er fans universally had Alex Smith's back at the start of the season. They could've lost to the Saints just as easily as they could've beaten the Giants. -

Yep that's exactly what everyone thinks. Strawman arguments on the internets are fun! -

Nice, that's nice.

It was a goaltend but so what. I'd rather have the ball in a tie game with 9sec's left than have a 35% chance of losing on a 3 as the clock expires, at least when I'm at home and have the better team. I think Huggins felt the same way which is why they went for 3 in the first place. Keita has always looked like he's trying to catch an iron. Hopefully Fab is back for the G'town game as rumored.
-
Vague is an understatement. Does that mean he could not come back at all? Or that he will but it might not be until the end of the reg. season. I think I could live with the latter as we have bigger fish to fry than the Big East this year.
