"My record may stink, but I've done a good job with the cap". Great - go fill out an application for a Financial Analyst position instead of being a football GM.

What one rule change would you like in the NFL?
BuffOrange replied to DPR4444's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well if he's driving the offensive player backwards that's a different story, but that's not usually what happens. I think most dumb rules favor the offense, but that's one I would change in favor of the other way. -

Doesn't happen in college. Heck, "some" DB's arent' even smart enough to bat down a pass on 4th&16. Umm, lets just move on. I hate when there's a minute left in the game and a WR fights&claws his way out of bounds, and the refs rule that his forward progress was stopped in bounds, so the keep running the clock. WTF? It should be the defender's job to keep him in bounds. The "I'm knocked out but the play is dead because my helmet is out of bounds and the ball is touching my leg" rule we saw against NE is about the dumbest rule in the history of sports, if it is a rule. -
I'm paying more attention to the suicide pool. Lots of fun. Last year was my first time trying it and I did pretty well until I took the freaking Giants against a Vickless Falcons team at home in November. Not to self: never pick the Giants. Anyway, next week looks like a tough slate of games. I've never picked a road team before, but just about all of the good teams are away next week. And it may be time to start taking playoff caliber teams after getting away with the Rams, Saints, and Raiders.

Or unless Mike Sherman makes an appearance on the sidelines.... Cool, thanks

My boss was talking about how there's so much scoring this year because of the "chuck rule". I told him there's less scoring and that it was his imagination, while he told me the Bills were obstructing my view. Anybody know where I can find these stats to compare to the first 3 weeks of last year?

Michael Vick sacked 5 times today...
BuffOrange replied to MadBuffaloDisease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're the one that brought up the "could Breese have won the Colts game yesterday" argument. I'm just saying if I were starting a franchise right now, yes, I would chose LTD over Vick. The fact that the Chargers have made horrible personnel/coaching/management decisions elsewhere, well, that's their problem and I really don't care. I just think if you take away LTD, their offensive personnel is worse than Miami's. No QB, no OL, no WR. He faces 9 guys in the box every week and still averages 5+ YPC? That's flat out disgusting. To each his own I guess. -

I'm not sure 11th in the league is that good considering 2/3 of their games have been against Arizona and SF - arguably the two worst teams in the league.... We'll see how good they are around Thanksgiving. -

The Chargers wouldn't have beaten the Jets or the Broncos with Vick - they'd probably be 0-3 right now because they wouldn't have beaten Houston without Tomlinson. The special QB's are difference makers, like Manning, but Vick is no Manning. -

BuffOrange replied to MadBuffaloDisease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It might've had SOMETHING to do with it, but that big of a discrepancy? Look at the NFL right now - the league is littered with teams that have good defenses and terrible offenses - but that doesn't stop the good defenses from playing well: eg) Buffalo, Miami, Jacksonville, Washington, and even Cleveland & Tampa until yesterday. Even though these offenses stink, the D doesn't give up 30 points like the Falcons did last year. -

I think Butler got the best of the Falcons with that trade though. Vick may or may not develop into a great QB, but right now he's no better than average IMO. You might be able to argue that he's already "good" but certainly not great. LaDanian Tomlinson on the other hand, is currently the best player in the league, period. -

Did you watch that Packers game? Vick didn't do squat. Falcons defense won it singlehandily with about 6 turnovers.... And their defense went from one of the best to one of the worst last year. -

Man, do we really have to endure these "Quarterback X had a bad game, so our guy isn't so bad" posts this year? It was the same thing when the Midget was here. Whenever Favre had a bad game, Flake fans would always point it out. I'm not saying Vick is Favre, or that Vick is even good at this point. I just know our QB stinks. -
Combined record of Bills opponents so far

If we were 2-0 their combined records would be 3-3. -
Screaming " It's The Offensive Lines' Fault "
BuffOrange replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was watching the Colts-Packers game yesterday and you can say what you want about the Colts OL being top notch, but the Packers blitzed a lot and it resulted in good pressure; yet Manning always got rid of the ball. The TD to Harrison was amazing, there's no way Bledsoe WOULDN'T have gotten sacked on that play. Granted, that's an exceptional example because there aren't many Peyton Mannings around. Still, it'd be nice if our QB had SOME pocket awareness. I guess my point is that we need a QB AND an OL. That's not good. -
Buffalo and game turning bad calls
BuffOrange replied to maddog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember a Jets game (I think in 93) where Thurman fumbled just short of the goaline and they called it a TD. We ended up winning by 2 points. But that's it - kind of sad that you have to go back 11 years to find an example. -
So I really gotta ask...Can the excuses stop?
BuffOrange replied to ICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Huh? Not to sound condescending, but if you've paid attention to football for the last 10 years you know that the "common opponents" theory is garbage. We can play that game all day: The Bills also lost to the Raiders who lost to the Steelers who lost to the Ravens who lost to the Browns who lost the Giants, so we must be worse than the Giants. And for the record, I'm still not sold on Jacksonville. Nice win today, but without a fluke fumble they still lose at home to that overrated Denver team. I watched some of that Chargers game today and I must say Plummer is no better than Bledsoe.....doesn't mean the Bills are any good though. -
OK, I tried to search back to a preseason predictions thread in July, but it won't let me go back that far. Damn Anyway, my .02 was that this is an 11-5 team that will finish 9-7. The theory was that you must subtract 2 wins every time you're looking over the schedule in July/August, because of the two annual token losses only applicable to Buffalo: 1) the token "come out flat and lose to an inferior team at home" game. I even predicted it would be either Jacksonville or Cleveland this year. 2) the token "get screwed by the refs" game. Tough to predict when these games are coming, and always heartbreaking. Is it possible that we've actually seen both of these games ALREADY? If so, maybe we can just play normal football from now on for the rest of the season. There - I don't want to hear anything again about being a doom&gloomer.

Here in the Philly area, they will most likely show Eagles-Lions and Giants-Browns for the early games. I'll probably pour some gasoline on myself and look for some matches.

Officials Blow 3 Calls Cost Bills 12 points/win
BuffOrange replied to BuffaloBorn1960's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't understand how they miss Chiefs players BLATANTLY block people in the back RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PLAY in a Dante Hall return and they call an admitted phantom hold NOWHERE NEAR the play against us the ONE time we get a return. How is that possible? -
Is it Bledsoe's NAME that makes people still
BuffOrange replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Straw-man alert... If that's what "Drew bashers" are saying then find a quote on it.... Nobody's saying the problems will go away....just that we have nothing to lose and the problems can't get any worse. I'm not going to repeat the dreadful offensive numbers that have been posted many times regarding the last 16 games, but they speak for themselves. -
Where can i order a copy of the NFL rule book?
BuffOrange replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was thinking of getting that book. I've heard it's mostly for middle-limits, is it good for lower limit too? I've also heard it's really dry and boring, although the content is gold. -
As per the Simoncast, BILLS NEWS...
BuffOrange replied to CoachChuckDickerson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep, on one particular drive there were 2 phantom penalties that kept Philly drives alive that led to a FG. And on the first possession, Schobel was tackled RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PLAY on a long McNabb scramble with no holding call. It WASN'T POSSIBLE to miss it, yet they catch a phantom hold on a punt that had no affect on the play. While a certain amount of human error is to be expected, it's just not believable that a group of paid professionals can be so woefully inconsistent and one sided. -
Anyone Feeling good after Bledsoe's rant?
BuffOrange replied to DeeRay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This same thing happens every year. Our joke of an offense (particularly the OL and in this case, the QB) complain about the heat they're taking, and get sick of the "demanding" fans and the big bad evil media beating them up all the time. They'll come out with an inspired performance after a bunch of lackluster showings (usually at home, usually against an overrated NFC team) so that they can sit in the post-game locker room after the game saying "I told you so" and "we're not as bad as you guys are saying and we proved it!". Then, they go back to sucking as usual the following week. The Redskins seem to fill this roll beautifully every time we play them. This year, the Rams game is the likely candidate to be that game; although it'd be nice if it was the Pats game. Until these players learn to play with a chip on their shoulder EVERY week, this team is never going anywhere. -

BuffOrange replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know if he was ever a "great" QB. Certainly he never did anything in the playoffs. Even in the SB year of '96 the Pats defense outscored the Jags offense in the title game. Did nothing against Cleveland in '94, nothing against Miami or Pittsburgh in '97, nothing against Jacksonville in '98. His second year was pretty good for a young guy. Back to back memorable shootouts with Marino and Kelly to open the season. Maybe that still lingers in people's minds. He was a good regular season QB from 94-98 and that's about it.
