  1. You make some good points. However, when you look at the county map, a lot of the blue states are actually red in the majority of the state. All of PA is red outside of Philly and Pittsburgh (a/k/a Alabama). So, I don't think it's a terrible generalization to say that non-urbaners vote conservative. Of course there are exceptions, just like blacks who vote republican and military who vote democrat.
  2. Yes sir - that sums up my feelings on abortion perfectly. Philosophically, I guess I'm pro-life. Unfortunately, trying to convince people to be responsible for their own actions only works in Fantasy Land, and not in the real world. So, I am pro-choice by default. Anything that gets the freeway moving faster.
  3. Peter King also annoints this year's Steelers as one of the greatest teams of all-time in today's column.
  4. OK but, you're the one that brought up the missed FG's vs. Maryland. If a win is a win, then a loss has to be a loss.
  5. I think the point was that Maryland sucks, and Miami is no powerhouse either. Those are 2 bad losses. And if Syracuse doesn't miss 2 FG's and fumble on the 5, you lose that game. Syracuse is a bad team. I think we can all agree that playoffs would be a good thing though.
  6. Do you think they think that people care what they think (pardon the John Maddenism)? Or do they think they're earning respect by trying (emphasize "trying") to sound intelligent about something other than music? Or are they under some illusion that makes them think they're being "different" or thinking "outside the box" when EVERY other Hollywood celebrity/musician utters the same exact liberal rhetoric? Really, I want to know. There should be an E! True Hollywood Story investigation on this.
  7. Ha - classic Actually, it's kind of sad that I get that.
  8. Do people really care about this stuff? I mean, the extent to which I'm a football junkie includes many guilty pleasures: Watching bad college games on Saturdays, watching useless pregame shows, reading dumb articles, spending way too much time on this board...but I've NEVER paid any attention to NFL power rankings. Really, I can't think of anything more meaningless.
  9. Insert Jim Mora joke here. Besides, that sounds like too much work. It's agonizing enough rooting for the Bills and against the Pats on top of my fantasy team.
  10. I don't know - there are lots of variables that go into that - such as what kind of schedule your opponents have played. All I know is that when I look at the SEC, I don't see any Baylors or Kansas's - or at least not as many (only Kentucky off the top of my head is really bad). The Pac 10 isn't much better, but at least they have Cal - who is the best 1-loss team out there IMO. If Texas is the 2nd best team in your conference, I'm not impressed - they're as one-dimensional as they come. Seriously, I can throw a better ball than their QB.
  11. As much as I don't like Auburn, I have to say they belong in the title game if they win out. The SEC is simply a better conference than the Big 12 or Pac 10 this year. Besides, it was a joke that Oklahoma got to play in the Sugar Bowl last year (not that that has anything to do w/ this year). I wouldn't worry too much though because I just don't see Auburn running the table. It's going to be very difficult to get by Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. It's also a big spin-job to say that Oklahoma is getting unfairly "penalized". Auburn is the team getting penalized for not being ranked as high in the preseason - which OUGHT to be meaningless.
  12. I agree. I wouldn't call him "great" but...Bad OL, bad QB, average WR's...It's amazing they scored & won as much as they did the last few years.
  13. I think that sums it up perfectly.
  14. I was at the game last week vs. the Cards and they did the same thing; including some big 3rd down situations in the red zone. I don't get it either.
  15. First of all, that story came from the AP, not ESPN, which makes it even more unbelievable since the AP usually goes out of their way to be politically correct. "Team X might have gotten break" in an AP story usually means "the refs blatantly screwed up". So yes - that was a joke that they actually wrote that considering the call was clearly correct. Perhaps some of us have different definitions on what a "break" is. For me, it's when a bad call goes your way, not a correct one. I'm not going to pretend like none of us are homers - but - pointing out that there were no such controversial articles written in the national media after the Oakland game when the calls were actually WRONG - I think that's a valid point. I'll let others decide if it's an anti-Buffalo thing or just a coincidence, but it is a valid point to at least bring up.
  16. Re: the 2nd Evans catch: There is an actual article in the AP saying "Buffalo may have gotten a break". The Hack on SportsCenter said "It was ruled a catch; the Jets had no time outs"... WTF? If that's what they say when a CORRECT call is made, imagine how the media would react if Buffalo ever catches an actual break? They didn't make as much of an attempt to stir up controversy after the Oakland game when the calls were wrong.
  17. This would be a good thread to announce my hatred for Fantasy Football. Last week it was Mushin Muhommed having the game of his life, and this week it's Kellen Winslow....err....Antonio Gates (I know he's had a good year, but 3 TD's?) I swear, if you're my oppononent you could start Steve Smith and he'd get 200 yards and 3 TD's on a broken leg. It's uncanny. Meanwhile, Tomlinson and Heap will apparantly never be healthy, ever.
  18. I have to admit I was laughing at Dierdorf when he criticized the WR for not going out of bounds. Usually time isn't a factor when there's 1:30 left and you have the ball on the 10 yard line; and if anything you don't want to leave the other team any time. The ensuing series was simply a Murphy's law of clock management screw-ups. Don't forget prior to the running play they ran down the entire play-clock before burning their last time-out. I began to wonder if Drew had been paid off.
  19. Forgot about that one - to be honest, I thought that was highly questionable as well. We needed at least a half yard and it was 0-0 at the time.
  20. I've defended the coaching staff as much as anyone this season, but the clock management at the end of the 1st half was a joke - it was like they were trying to help the Jets. MM gave a GWesque explanation at halftime. Frankly, I thought the bomb to Evans at the end was a stupid call too, even though it worked. I don't have a problem with trick-plays in general, but we seem to have this strange tendancy to use them when we're moving the ball, which is stupid since they can be drive-killers when they don't work. I mean, the time to think outside the box would've been the Ravens game when it was obvious our offense wasn't going to do anything the conventional way.
  21. Maybe he borrowed Travis Henry's cleats.
  22. If you want a liberal board, check out BillMaher.com. I personally like Maher even though I disagree with him a lot, but for some reason his following seems to be much further to the left than he is. It's really a circus over there. If anybody gets a chance to catch the latest show on reruns - check it out. Andrew Sullivan really took the libs to school.
  23. I've cashed in picking against KC this season, but I like them -3 @ Tampa. That's about all I like for the pros. Though I hate the Vols, I'm surprised that Tennessee is only -7 at home vs. Notre Dame.
  24. Yeh, those early season Steelers games (before big Ben) they kept showing were strange. Didn't they usually show the Jets as the AFC team last year? Steelers-Eagles, Jets-Bills, Pats-Rams...if I had a choice of 3 games to watch, those would be it and they're all on.
