The funny part is that if Bledsoe is underrated (just play along) then TJ is one of the reasons why.....He didn't have many flattering comments for DB on Primetime the last couple of years if I recall.

Anyone know ACTUAL Bills play terminology?
BuffOrange replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe if Chucky took the clipboard away from his mouth the players would hear better? Yeah, that West Coast terminology is insane - like 3 paragraphs for a 5 yd crossing route. -
To be fair - he did choke on the biggest play of the game vs. Oakland, did nothing vs. Pittsburgh, and embarked on 1 TD drive vs. the Rams which was set up by a turnover. That's 2 TD drives throught the entire postseason if you're counting, so he was average at best in the playoffs that year. Of course, he's a much better QB now than he was then and NE probably doesn't make the playoffs with Drew that year and if they do they're playing 3 road games instead of getting a 1st round bye.

I agree - which is partially why I don't have a problem with any hype the Ravens may be getting. If you had to pick one "new" division winner this year in the AFC, wouldn't it be them? With all of the injuries they had last year (J. Lewis, Heap, Ogden) and the Steelers inevitable drop this year... I think they might be the Patriots's biggest obstacle this year.

Random Thoughts from around the league

Is Gus Forrette really going to start for them? How old is he? -
That is very very true. I've pretty much given up on flaming the Patriots. The last 2 SB's have proved that Bellichek and Brady are just that good. I will still contend until the day I die that Brady was vastly overrated in 2001 and it was the biggest fluke season of any team in the history of organized sports. I truely believe that, but even that's almost fruitless to argue anymore since: A) The last 2 SB's make it *look* like they weren't lucky in '01, even though one has nothing to do with the other. B) Them winning 2 more SB's actually makes it easier to live with. I mean, I think I'd go insane if Pats fans used the "Rings" argument if they only had one and it was tainted. It still sucks, but at least they have 2 legit titles now. C) When the refs screwed us in the '01 OT game and gave them a 1st round bye, it actually ended up hurting Miami a lot. Oh well - as Spurrier would say - my "give a damn" rating for both Miami and Oakland are pretty low.

I heard he got a bogus flag thrown at him Saturday. I just hope he doesn't follow in the Ken Irvan/Chris Watson footsteps of Bills Nickel DB's who get picked on to death by the refs for no apparant reason.

I feel the same way about Carolina - they're everybody's blue-collar darling team that was ravaged by injuries and hard luck last year. I'd like to see them do well because I like Fox and Dellhomme, but I don't see how they're that much better than the Bucs or Saints. Edit: Oakland Under 8 looks like the best bet to me. There is no middle ground with Kerry Collins. Either he throws for 400 yds and 4 TD's or he turns the ball over 5 times. They're going to lose every single game he plays lousy in, and they're only going to win about half the games he plays well in because their defense is so lousy. Smells like 5-11 to me. -
I still remember Week 3 of the 2002 game in Denver, when he made one of his finer plays - a moderately hard hit at the goaline which didn't seem to bother the WR as he hung on to the ball for a big gain. Randy Cross was doing to game for CBS and said: "Wow, I think I have a new favorite football player" and he wasn't talking about the WR. I was like, "really? This guy stinks". My opinion hasn't changed. I wonder if Randy's has.

What's the first rule of 2+2 and why are you linking that site? I like the Ravens to win the division this year. Having Lewis, Heap, and Ogden healthy is worth a couple of games alone. I wasn't a big Boeller guy when he was drafted, but I think people are calling him a bust a bit prematurely. If he plays average, they could be NE's biggest threat in the AFC. -
If you listen to them regularly you know that they're not homers. It is correct that they have never liked the Bills however.
-
I have this feeling that either the Jets are going to play in the AFC championship game this year, or they're going to suck hard. It all depends on Martin - if he stays young, I wouldn't want to play them. If he starts to show his age, then they'll have to throw more, then Pennington will get injured, and then the defense which overachieved last year - will be on the field longer and look a lot worse.

Best EVER with Aaron Schobel as the #1A passrusher on the team? I don't see it.

mularkey -- what are your thoughts?
BuffOrange replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like what he's done so far as well. In addition to having a better offensive mind, he has the feel for the game that GW never had with respect to gametime decisions. He took some heat early last year from some results-oriented 20/20 fans - such as the punt at the end vs. Jacksonville, and the 4th&1 TD attempt vs. Oakland - but those were clearly the correct decisions. -
I guess I just don't understand these threads. I love my team and it's been 5 straight years without a playoff appearance and 9 without a division title. It makes me sad. I want a winner. Why is that SOOOO much to ask? I consider myself to be middle of the road on the optimism/pessimism scale, but lets face it - the doom & gloomers have been right more ofthen than the rosey glasses for the last several years. We're all Bills fans, but for the latter to continually ridicule the former group with smug comments is like Peter King mocking somebody for off-base predictions.

Post of the thread and that's all I have to say. I'm really tired of hearing about this since I live here.

Yeah, or if somebody like King predicted Jake Plummer to be the league MVP 2 years in a row....oh wait.... -

Sounds an awful lot like the gameplan last year. We were 9-7. Will a healthy Willis for 4 months and a more experienced coach help? Probably. Will our defense and Special Teams combine for 10 TD returns this year? Probably not. Agreed - our playoff hopes and success this year depends on what we get out of the QB, and I really don't see this as debatable. -

I actually think it looks pretty good. Can you customize a Yahoo league to whatever scoring you want? -
Fantasy Football (get your fixing for it here)
BuffOrange replied to geggytah's topic in Fantasy Football
I don't agree with every detail of the scoring system, but I think it is better than most. I was wondering the other day why most leagues tend to suck so much? My boss asks me if I want to join his Fantasy Football League this year and I immediately say yes. Then he emails me the rules and I think "maybe not". No points for a fumble recovery on defense, 1 lousy pt for an INT. 6 pts for a TD - OK fine. But 3 lousy points for a 100-125 yard game for a RB/WR, and 3 pts for any FG? 5pts for a 50+yd FG? By that system I may as well draft a Kicker first. Three chip-shot FG's apparently equals a 120yd, 1 TD game by a WR? Also no negative points for int's thrown by a QB. A QB has to throw for 300 yards to get any yardage points? A RB that runs for 99 yds & no TD's is 0 pts...ok. And oh yeah, defense....A D that gives up 6 points and only gets 1 turnover should be worth more than one that gives up 40 pts and forces 4 turnovers. -
Forgot to mention the endzone pick at the end of the 1st half when we were up 7-6, plus another turnover around midfield in the 3rd Qtr. And oh yeah, Tennessee's defense the following season was like 50 times better than Miami's, but RJ doesn't seem to get a break for that.
-
That's great that your #1A example of getting screwed came in a 31-0 defeat. In addition to all of the previous mentioned games vs. the Bills, Raiders, and Colts, there's the Bears game in '02 where the Pats were given a 1st down on a very close 3rd down play in the closing seconds without a measurement as the clock mysteriously stopped without a timeout....WTF? I mean, you either have to measure or keep the clock running. Or the Jets game last year in NE when PI was finally called against NE on a 50 yard pass before the refs realized PI can't be called on NE and they picked up the flag....This stuff just doesn't happen to ANY other team.
-
I actually remember him saying that he honestly thought the game was over, and none of the refs came into the locker room and told them that it wasn't. Maybe that sounds stupid, but I believe him.

Don't forget getting owned by the Eagles 3rd string secondary the week after the Miami game

Check out game #5 of that season at Indy. We had a 3-4 TD lead before putting our scrubs in, and we only won by 7. That cost us the tie-breaker. I don't think a tie-breaker had ever come down to that before. I assure you that's not what the Pats were thinking about. No, I couldn't get my 'quid' down on time. Pretty selfish of Wade and myself that we weren't thinking from the gambler's perspective.
