In their prime - who was/is the better Coach ?
BuffOrange replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Honestly I don't know what this means, "coaching not to lose". Are you saying he's too conservative? I thought he tried too many trick plays? He throws deep too much, he doesn't throw deep enough, he doesn't run enough....there have been so many contradicting complaints in recent weeks it's hard to keep track. We just don't have enough players on either side of the trenches to compete and that's really the bottom line. FWIW, there was more than 1 NE fiasco under GW and however "close" those 10-0 or 10-6 games or 17-7 games vs. GB, Dallas, or Miami may have been on the scoreboard, the games were not really that close given that the offense was never capable of making a play, ever. -

Agreed, I think MM is a lot better than GW was. The team seems a little tougher mentally than it was 2 years ago, and he has a much better feel for the game than GW ever did - ie when to punt, when to go for it, when to kick a FG, etc. Plus we actually beat division opponents once in a while (however mediocre they may be), which never happened under GW. As somebody said in another thread, Sam Adams is the only real player on either side of the line. A coach really has to be a miracle worker to overcome that lack of talent. -
This is a 6-10 Team This Year
BuffOrange replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully between the KC, Denver, and Carolina home games we find a way to win 2 of those. Maybe score a lucky win in NJ or Miami, but yeah, 6 wins is seriously optimistic at this point. KC and Carolina will be the only games where we'll be favored the rest of the year barring a total collapse by Denver. 5-11 looks like a pretty good bet at this point. -
To those who want to fire TD / MM

Brad Childress? And you think we throw too much now? I'm all for offering Parcells the keys to everything. Buffalonians seem to have an inferiority complex about a guy like him never wanting to come here - but he's an old school guy who I think respects an organization like Buffalo. Unlike Jimmy Johnson he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who HAS TO live in a big city - did he actually frequent the trendy night clubs in NYC? -
I'll bet $50 you don't do this.

Not that big a deal IMO. I saw the Jets press conference last week and Vinny essentially said the same thing; and our pass-rush wasn't even as good as the Raiders this week.
-
I don't buy into the "desparation" stuff either. Last week they were a desparate 1-3 team playing a division rival at home with already 1 home division loss in the books....they got crushed, and their season ended in the process. The 4th & goal decision turned out to be quite insignificant contrary to Rich Gannon's dumb remarks....We eventually got 3 points out of the favorable field position.

I'm not nearly as down on the coaching staff as you, but otherwise a phenominal post. When you think about it, Adams & Fletcher are the only 2 decent players we have on the front 7. For some reason people feel the need to prop up Schobel during the offseason, but during the season when the games and non-existent pass-rush are fresh in everybody's memory, I think pretty much everybody agrees that he can't play. He's like the poor man's A-Rod of football....hits homers with a 7 run lead in the 9th inning, but grounds out whenever it matters. Milloy has missed tackles in EVERY game this year, not just against good teams. Offensively, this franchise has been so awful for so long that I actually find it difficult to complain about a 17 pt output on the road, because it is clear they're not capable of anything more. You can say what you want about the the OL or the WR's or the coaches, but basically the future is going to come down to JP. Maybe that's not fair to him, but the bottom line is that the kid has to turn into a stud for us to have any hope in '06.
-
It's a tough stretch. We can split hairs about whether the Raiders are bad or just mediocre (surely they're not good) but either way we have to beat these kinds of teams if we ever want to go anywhere.
-
Yeah, I don't see any potential gain by throwing him to the wolves in what will inevitably be a massacre next week. I'm all for starting him vs. KC though.
-
KC is a mediocre division rival and they lost at home in primetime. They got the ball near midfield all day vs. Philly because the Eagles didn't have a kicker. They got 2 weeks to prepare for SD with the Chargers coming off a short week and STILL got destroyed at home. They're not a good team. Maybe not horrible, but the fact remains it was the most winable road game left on the schedule.

Even Mullarkey lacks faith in offense
BuffOrange replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's a much more plausible strategy on the 20, not from the 35. If you have to punt you have to punt - it's not like they're going to get the ball back at midfield. There's no way in hell the Patriots wouldn't take a shot in that spot. -

BuffOrange replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah it's really inexcusable not to try to get in FG range in that spot. -
No, but I was holding out hope we could win at least 1 out of the 2 easiest road games on the schedule.
-
Vintage Drew - that was funny.

Is Gabriel their 3rd or 4th WR? Our #1 all-star CB can't cover him.

The "TD" needs to leave thread...
BuffOrange replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's really the bottom line. The team has been mentally soft, incapable of overcoming the slightest adversity on the road since about 1999. -
Forfeiting the NE game might seriously be a good idea just to avoid injuries. We have a 0.00% chance of winning that. If we do decide to make the trip, leave Milloy in Foxboro - he sucks.

Most retarded thing an announcer has ever said
BuffOrange replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Randy Cross is a retard. "The ball is moving!" The ball was never moving, and he clearly had possession the whole time. It took me 1 replay to see that his hand hit out of bounds before his elbow, knee, or both his feet. -
Not exactly. They lost in Philly on a late FG and basically gave away the KC game.
-
Definitely a tough week... I kinda like the dysfunctional Vikings +2, just because I don't think the Packers have any business being a road favorite over anybody. Gimme the Browns -3 because Joey Harrington on the road is a disaster. I'll also take the Texans +16 at home vs. the Colts coming off a short week. Yeah, that's ugly
-
The thing about the Raiders is that they suck. I don't buy the desparation stuff. This isn't a must-win for them, because their season is already over. Last week was a must-win because they lost their 2nd home division game despite getting 2 weeks to prepare and the Chargers coming off a short week. If there's such a thing as a 'good 1-4', the Raiders are not it. By no means does this mean I'm overconfident, but if we lose it'll be because we suck and nothing else.

On the plus side Miami's run D showed some major leaks for the first time this year, opening day appears to be a fluke, and Gus Ferrotte is playing like Gus Ferrotte. On the other hand, Ronnie Brown looks to be the real deal - that was a sick run. How did he get only 8 carries, was he injured? And we complain about McGahee not getting the rock enough?

I think this game defines our season
BuffOrange replied to 12thman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we don't win this game there's a good possibility we go 0-8 on the road this year. -
very interesting info about spikes

As soon as he slammed his helmet into the ground, my heart sunk. You just KNEW his season was over
