Jerry Gray's Addiction with the blitz cost us game
BuffOrange replied to Mr. T's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed - when Brady is down 16-7 in his stadium I don't know if there's a defense in the league that's going to stop them from scoring twice. The onus was on the offense to seal the game at that point with 1 score and they didn't get it done. -
(OT)Is Donovan McNabb a future hall of famer?
BuffOrange replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not right now - he'll be in if he has about 4 more good seasons like he had last year. -
A presnap penalty on a 3rd & 4 play which the Bills were going to convert anyway was slightly less significant than the Moulds PI.... But yeah, whatever.

Question regarding Bills' "streak" on ESPN

I don't remember being behind in that Chargers game - I know it was tied. I think it was the '03 game vs. the Bengals. -
The Bills have nobody to blame

I thought it was fairly clear I was talking about coaching, woman. Seriously, why go thru all that effort to quote that one little sentence and cut everything else out? -
who do you think starts against the chiefs?
BuffOrange replied to Johnny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. I thought they made the switch from JP to KH at the perfect time before the Miami game. I'd like to think they make another smart switch for the next game (this time permanently) but based on how they stuck with Bledsoe when last season was hopelessly over, I'm not getting my hopes up. -

Good post - I haven't been on the playcalling-bashing bandwagon this year but tonight it was bad. I mean, against Atlanta you kinda had to hurry down by 8 with 6 minutes left IMO because 2 pt conversions are not sure things and you want to give yourself 2 possessions/opportunities to score if possible. But this game was just a mess. For one thing, it's a 5 pt game so all you need is 1 score. Secondly, you don't want to leave NE any time. You don't need timeouts and sideline routes to travel 39 yards in 3 minutes. Keep feeding Willis the rock. As I've said before and probably will say again, this game was up to the offense to win when the score was 16-7. You just knew that NE was going to score twice somehow some way no matter what, so they needed 1 more score to win it - Holcomb & co. just didn't get it done. -
Yeah, I don't know if I'm just getting older or more cynical or what... 2 years ago I might've been pissed and throwing things all over the apartment. Now? I'm kinda surprised at all the anger here. The outcome was as predictable as the sun rising tommorow. Did people actually expect us not choke away this game? I told my buddy when we were up 16-7, this game is up to the offense - we have to score at least 6 more points to win.

The Branch catch I thought was inconclusive. The Moulds PI was an awful call - but we still needed to score a TD on that drive AND get a 2-pt conversion because you KNOW there was a 100% probability of NE scoring at least a FG when they got the ball back. This really doesn't hold a candle to the 1998 game in the way of screwjobs. Hell, I thought last year's NE game in Buffalo was worse - Remember Dillion's "non-fumble" inside our 5 yard line?

The Sports Guy's take on the Bills-Pats
BuffOrange replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Major subpar article for him. Eli rules, Peyton sucks! Since when does an October interconference home game qualify as a "big game"? Who else have the Giants beaten? Maybe the Skins shouldn't have won in Dallas, but they shouldn't have lost in KC either. Oh yeah, I've given up on the Bills in case you can't tell. Tuesday's signature says it all. -
I know you guys don't like posts about the past...

He did QB a win vs. the Bears to clinch a bye in the reg. season finale. -
It's tough to lose a shootout against John Freiz.

C'mon now....everyone knows that game was 9-6. Actually that was a rematch of a phenominal Todd Collins comeback at Rich

Absolutely classic

Oh, I've erased that game from my memory. That was a total "run for the bus" game for us. I think NE had like 3 TD's called back as well (it's great that the refs give us calls when it doesn't matter but never in close games). Wait - maybe I'm thinking of the 2002 game in NE. I dunno, it's a blur. Last year they just whipped our ass with more than just the dink & dunk though - they ran & threw downfield.
-
Which NE game are you referring to? They dinked & dunked us to death in the infamous 2002 game at Rich which was the game Bledsoe officially came down to earth, but our D sucked then (also the first official "GW sucks" moment when he punted on the Pats 32 on 4th & 2 down 17-0). Last year it was more of a case of Brady just making plays in the 1st game and Schobel being helpless against the run on his side in the 2nd game. This year, team's have just figured out our blitzes. The blitz actually welcomes short passes on 3rd downs a lot of times because if you get to the QB, all you need is a guy in position to make a tackle short of the 1st down. We made a living off of this last year and Pittsburgh has always done this. If you don't get to the QB though....you've seen what happens - WR's are able to make catches well beyond the marker.
-
For those of you who think NE "just isn't that good" - I'm sorry to sound like a jerk, but do you guys pay ANY attention to who our rivals are playing or do you just peak at the standings in the paper? When you saw NE's schedule for the 1st 6 games what did you realistically expect? Would ANYBODY including the Colts be better than 4-2 at this point with their schedule? They've played 4 freaking road games in Carolina, Pittsburgh, ATL, and Denver. The gave the Broncos a hell of a scare after falling behind 28-6. Most teams including the Bills would just roll over and quit when facing that kind of margin on the road.

What in your opinion are the top needs?

1) OL 2) DL 3) more DL 4) more OL 5) safety -
Good thing Oakland is so much better than NE, otherwise next week could get ugly The 2-4 team who has played 4 home games is awesome, but the 3-3 team that has played 4 road games....they suck.
-
Didn't you start this thread about the Raiders? J/K I saw somebody else's "Oakland is an ok team" post was deleted, which I was going to respond to... My pre-season thoughts on them were that Collins was an erratic passer, they would lose every game he played poorly in and only win half the games he played well in because their defense isn't good, which would result in 5-11. Right now they're 2-4, and while they've played a tough schedule, they've played 4 of 6 at home and Collins hasn't even started throwing int's yet. So I still think they stink.
-
As much as McGahee was getting stuffed and as poorly as our defense was playing, I was surprised they didn't just put 3 on the board there, but we got the points back on the next possession with the good field position. In the grand scheme of things that play wasn't all that significant.
-
Marv always used to say halftime adjustments are incredibly overrated. He's right. When you spend 80 hours during the week coming up with a gameplan, you're not going to install a bunch of new stuff on a chalkboard and have it register with the players during the 10 minute halftime period.

In their prime - who was/is the better Coach ?
BuffOrange replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We had zilch in the way of offensive TD's SEVEN TIMES out of 16 games in 2003. This year we're scoring on every opening possession. I'm not saying our offense is good, but if you don't think it's better now I don't know what you were watching 2 years ago. Yeah, the defense is worse now than it was in '03. But last year they were better than '03 because they went from last to first in turnovers. They sucked in '01 without any players, they sucked in '02 without players and they suck now without any players. When you take away Spikes & Pat Williams we only have 2 real players on our front 7 with Adams & Fletcher.
