Ravens looked like the better team from here.

I Hope Ravens Beat Steelers

Alright then, glad that's settled. I'll be sure to put this next to the Mortenson folder in my "things I don't care about" file cabinet. -
Well, we're 4 and 0. So my question is

There are 1,000 playoff threads when we win a game in November to improve to 5-6 but it's taboo at 4-0. I love this board. -
Seems like this McClain guy is a better power back, which pretty much makes Willis useless since he's not a homerun threat either. But I mean I don't understand the hate for the guy. Just another run of the mill RB who was drafted too high thru no fault of his own. Yawn.

A lot of it is just your perspective or point of reference. Carter's comments reminded me of Mike Francessa on Friday: "People are talking about the Bills winning 13 games - I don't see that". Really Mike? Who are those people? I haven't heard them even from the rose-color glasses crowd on TBD. I think as a fan of a team that's done nothing in a decade, being a contender to win the division and host a playoff game while not necessarily being the SB favorite qualifies as "being for real". But it seems like several in the media like to set up these straw-man arguments of imaginary expectations because they don't want to admit they were wrong in the preseason.
-
While I think 90% of the "media/respect" threads around these parts are rather pathetic, it is totally fair to pile on Mort for being a blatantly transparent TD ball-washing fool imo. The Raiders had a 12 pt lead in the 4th Qtr today. Obviously they can't finish a game, but it is equally obvious that it has nothing to do with the coaching situation. If the players on the field are going to let the internal turmoil and media circus affect them, wouldn't that show up more in the first 3 quarters as they start the game disorganized and unprepared?

Why the Oakland game has less bearing than we think:

IIRC they were very good defensively 2 years ago (despite a hideous offense) but sucked last year. Not sure what to think of them this year - the Charger game should tell us something. -

A bit of a reach imo to equate -2 turnover table at home, with -5 on the road in a rabid stadium that hasn't hosted MNF in 13 years.... But yeah, I kinda said this a few days ago. -
Seriously. I suppose if he reports a firing every Monday he'll be right one of these weeks.

Hypothetically of course.

Wow, CBS has awful games this week...
BuffOrange replied to sullim4's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow. Do Nance & Simms get a bye week? -
Probably. Even if they weren't flagged, not all personal fouls are equally damaging. I mean, a 3rd down foul on defense is killer. Having them kickoff from the 45 and bomming it into the endzone isn't a big deal since we were starting at the 20 on every possession anyway. Not that Whitner was thinking about any of this stuff at the time, but whatever... I like it a whole lot better than that Warren Sapp water bottle incident in Tampa a few years ago when all our guys sat around doing nothing.

Week 4 Tennessee -3 vs. Minnesota - Much of the general public getting burned last week with a 10pt win (0-2 was favored vs. 2-0) is a good example of why you don't take records too seriously at this point of the season, as a closer look showed there wasn't much difference between them & Carolina in the first two weeks. It just so happens that I'm taking the team 2 games better in this spot, as I don't believe these teams are equal on a neutral field. Both teams bread&butter is to run & stop the run, so it should be low scoring. Lendale White between the tackles is useless against Minny's monster tackles, but look for Chris Johnson to get some more work including the passing game. I also like going against Guss Forrotte on the road. Carolina -7 vs. Atlanta - See Week 2 Tampa pick. The Falcons have had 21-0 leads in their 2 home wins vs. Det&KC, and that obviously helps the rookie QB and their bad defense. Warning - the Panthers are traditionally an awful home favorite. Houston +9 @ Jacksonville - I feel like the line in this game is too high just about every year and it usually has been. Even if the Jags are that much better they're not really built to win blowout games. The Texans 31-12 loss @Tenn last week was not nearly as bad as you might think, with a 100 yard int return late in the 4th. Plus Andre Johnson had a couple uncharacteristic big drops (yes that's a thinly disguised fantasy vent). Oakland +9 vs. San Diego - I liked Oakland +3 vs. Denver in week 1 and didn't pick it for the sole reason that they're brutal in these home division games. Can't resist the 9 pts though - count me in the group who came away from last week's game thinking the Raiders aren't that bad. The Bills uncharacteristically lost the battles of pass protection and special teams and it didn't necessarily look like a fluke. Still like the going against the "road game after a short week" factor as well, even though it obviously didn't work out last week w/ Dallas. Last week: 1-1 YTD: 6-3 Thursday edit: KC +9.5 vs. Denver - I was hoping this would get to 10, but doesn't look like it's going to happen. With Huard getting the start though (their only competent QB), I can't resist getting this many points at home in a rivalry game against a team with a bad defense. I don't really think the Saints have that many weapons without Colston, and the Broncos blowing 21-0/21-3 leads at home is really alarming. The Chiefs obviously don't have the firepower to overcome such a deficit, but if they can avoid that 1st Qtr disaster I think they can control enough clock to keep it close. Every square on the planet is obviously on the Broncos in this game because "Cutler is good and KC sucks" - but I don't see this line being more than 7 if Hocculi doesn't blow a call and Grammatica can make a kick. Go Chiefs - ruin those suicide pools!

Cleveland Quarterback Controversy?
BuffOrange replied to /dev/null's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You’re going to piss off a lot of veterans putting a 1st year guy in there after a 10win season that was driven by a good offense (even though Anderson’s play declined late). Seems fair to give DA a shot against the first bad defense they play this year after 3 tough ones. If he stinks in Cincy it’ll be hard for anyone to argue w/ starting Quinn week 5. -

The Bills Are Finally a TEAM!!
BuffOrange replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A thought on "close games": It's nice to win a couple, but there is something to be said for how the game got to be close in the first place. People didn't want to hear this last year (and maybe you still don't) - but you're a lousy team when you score a defensive TD, special teams TD, have a +5 turnover edge, and you don't have the game won after 3 quarters. From that standpoint I never felt like we "should've won" the Dallas or to a lesser extent the Denver game. We actually have won some close, evenly played games in the last couple years, but we never would've been in a position to win them if we ever got outplayed on special teams & were -2 in turnovers as we were Sunday. We needed a fluke fumble return by McGee to keep the Indy game close a couple years ago, but we didn't need that in Jacksonville this year. Likewise, I don't think we have to worry about recovering an onside kick to preserve a win if this team we have right now gets a bunch of gifts from Romo or whoever. The '08 Bills are just better on both sides of the ball (not just "more clutch"). If we start getting some of those breaks that we got in previous years but did not get in the last 2 weeks, there ought to be a home playoff game. -

Glad there was no Red Right 88 on Sunday. -
Anyone know the name of the Jets' QB?

No idea but I've heard he looks like a kid in the backyard out there. -
I am partial to Winfield because he's not a punk.

I don't understand why everyone takes Fridays off instead of Mondays when they need to kill vacation time. I'd have been as productive as JP in the pocket if I went in today.

It went like this: Kornheiser: "Denver is logical because _ but I'm going to say Buffalo because _". Wilbon: "I'm going with Tennessee". Seemed like a contrived way to mention all 3 teams, which is maybe good since there'd be a bunch "Wah - Aretha" threads if the Bills were the team left out.
