The best theory out there is the 1969 Super Bowl with the gaurantee of Joe Namath. The 19 and 1/2 point favorite Colts coached by non-other than the "legendary" Don Shula sleep walk throughout the game and lose 16-7! Bubba Smith, a DE for the Baltimore Colts swears to this day that that game was a setup....the AFL and NFL merger was just around the corner, however, the prevailing attitude Nationally was that the AFL was vastly inferior! Watch the play of Earl Morral the QB for the Colts. He has a designed play to hit Jimmy Orr on a Flea-flicker and he (Orr) is WIDE OPEN in the end zone, well good old Earl "checks off" and throws an interception in the middle of the field! This play was designed and had worked in the season against the Cardinals, yet, Earl throws the INT?! Questionable at BEST!!! Oh, and the residuals.... Don Shula gets a cushy gig coaching down in Miami, Florida and ( cough, cough) becomes the winningest head coach of ALL -TIME and wins TWO Super Bowls in the process! Included in that scenario a PERFECT SEASON! HUH? Looks pretty "fishy" to me!

First off, the Bills shoudn't have lost this game! But the outcome reminded me of the opener against the Jets in 2003, I think it was.... total domination statistically, but Chad Morton stole the show! This loss was Kerry Rhodes doing ALL the damage for the Jets. On JP's performance, I'm thrilled with a 300+ yard game and his overall management of the offense in the first three games. Progress is evident! He didn't play great Sunday, but the signs point to a better QB throughout the rest of the season. I simply don't know yet if he can strap this team on his back yet, but I'm willing to believe he will be able to later on in the second half of this season. This is pure speculation on my part, but if the progression rings true, he can and will do it soon!

The Dolphins, folks, play two of the weak sisters in the next two weeks and will be a very likely 2-2, and THAT will eliminate their chances at Brady Quinn. I agree that right now the Oakland Raiders are the odds on choice at drafting #1. Herman Edwards has major problems too, but they play the Raiders twice, so that moves them to around 5-10 in the draft order....

Michael Huff will be just fine, when and if the Raiders put some NFL talent in front of him!! If Huff had been drafted by the Buffalo Bills in April, I'd have been thrilled with that pick. I'm also very happy with the extremely early returns on Donte Whitner. Try NOT to curb peoples' feelings for the rookies, it is a great class, so far....

What this indicates to me is that the Buffalo Bills WILL be loaded for free agency next year. I'm sure John Guy. who evaluates the Pro talent league-wide has a list of potential target players that the Bills are earmarking for March. The situation might be like Minnesota, where they had multiple 10's of millions. They, by the way, landed Steve Hutchinson, so maybe that's the battle plan!! If we can sign someone comparible to a Hutchinson, then isn't it worth the wait.... after all, this is a rebuilding year by their own admission.

The most hopeful piece in all of this is that last years performance in one quater against the Dolphins might just indicate that we actually have the next great Dolphin killer on the roster in Jonathan Paul Losman! Somebody has to rekindle the Thurman Thomas antimosity and I nominate JPL!!

Insult to injury regarding the 4th and 1 play
Bflojohn replied to buffaloboyinATL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have a theory here... the line judge will often be looking down the line to see exactly (according to him) where the ball was when the knee goes down. I think many of them are soooo accustomed to running backs stretching the ball out AFTER the initial knee down point (forward progress). The play here was different in my eyes because Willis actually gets the ball thrust forward BEFORE his knee hits. I really have a suspicion that that line judge didn't allow for what I believe was a good enough reach by McGahee to gain the first down. In other words, he made it and got a bad spot, pure and simple!! -
Jerry Porter is one hell of a teammate
Bflojohn replied to ACor58's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's funny really, I was DOING exactly the same thing Porter was doing!! Everybody please tell me it isn't sweet to watch the "pride and poise" boys go down in flames on Monday Night? I LOVED EVERY MINUTE!!! -
And with the first pick, the Raiders take....
Bflojohn replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh, that wasn't the only "super Star" sighting either! Tom Cruise was in Daniel Snyders' luxury box in Washington. This isn't football anymore, why is Scoop doggie doo in a studio anyway? -
I saw an interview with Carl Peterson, and he said that Trent Green was in the hospital with a HUGE headache! He didn't pull any punches either, saying that it was a dirty play and that the KC Chiefs will have to live with it! I'd say his opinion is now known. ESPN, to a man said it wasn't a dirty hit.... I BEG to differ!! $75,000 out of Geathers' pocket would about do it..... a suspension is warranted too, IMO!

I hate talking about the refs, but . . .
Bflojohn replied to Peter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The thing here is the officials in this league have better protection than the President gets from the "Secret Service"!!! They NEVER get interviewed, whereby their conduct COULD be discussed and questioned. They have an Ivory Tower approach to this that absolutely infuriates me!! Why does this "Industry" fight sooo hard to hide the FACT that the fabric of the game itself is brought into question? It baffles me to NO end! The mere appearance of fixing is problematic and needs a better sounding board, IMO. -
One game and some of you are calling
Bflojohn replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do think he could "work" for NASA... they have brooms! -
The question here is what is he worth? I'd say no more than a second round pick. Who needs a Willis McGahee? Houston.... they have done business with us but ripped the Bills off on the Moulds trade (NOT in what the Bills got back, I love Kyle Williams!). maybe the Jets, but do you trade within the division? Philadelphia? They could use a durable "big back" I think, but I don't believe that they would jump! I'd wait until someone (contender) needs a back due to injury. just a thought.....

I'd nominate Referee Terry McCauly myself.... Oh yeah, his "crack" crew too!!

One thing I believe from yesterday....
Bflojohn replied to Lv-Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My only complaint to lodge was that they carried on the time honored tradition of being too conservative with the lead. If JP is the QB, then let him grow by being ultra aggressive, at times. How often did the Bills challenge deep? One to Parrish that maybe could have been a better throw, but anything else? The way this team will win is to keep the opposition off balance with the constant threat of the bomb. It will keep 8 men in the box out of the other teams' strategy. They could have gone after the Patriots to answer this problem, but the choice was to run 20 yards or less patterns. It makes the Patriots job that much easier, IMO... They MUST do this against the Dolphins next week, their deep secondary is highly suspect!!! -
I'll be satisfied IF they stop throwing the ball to this loser! Shelton can't block, catch or run.... perfect combination in my book!
-
On the safety, Villarrial gets HANDLED by Ty Warren. It looked like a revolving door opened. JP didn't have a chance once Banta-Cain went flying by. That whole play from the offensive line was a JAIL BREAK!! Awful!!!
-
0-1, that is in the record books now and I hate that aspect when the refs DO screw the Bills! They should just dress the bastards in Dolphin helmits next week!

14-2 edge in penalties. B. friggin' S.
Bflojohn replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Completely aside, but on Schobels' knock down of the pass where he is CLEARLY held, they showed an end-zone shot of the play and behind Schobel, I swear Nate Clements was breaking on that pass and would have had a pretty clear path to the end zone. Did anyone notice that play other than me?? -
Tough loss, but a good start anyway
Bflojohn replied to SF Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
By the way, the penalty was an illegal participation call (12 men in the huddle), so the New England Patriots played a PERFECT GAME.... My @ss!!! -
Most of the "anal"ysts can NOT conjugate a verb properly. I get sooo frustrated with the lack of polish that is passed off on the networks and cable outlets that I often watch a game without really listening to ANYTHING the talking heads have to say. I can generally come to my own conclusions much more simply, by watching the game itself. Didn't NBC once do a broadcast without a single announcer? Maybe sharp graphics could be the wave of the future.... One can only HOPE!!!

Just talked with Terrance Pennington's Mom
Bflojohn replied to AKC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The scouting report on Pennington at the combine paints a much different picture RRich. He graded out the 6th most athletic O-lineman at the February festivities and he did play OLT at New Mexico. He has long arms and pretty good strength for a 7th rounder. He is yet another example of how deep this draft was in talent. Simply put, another thought is that he beat out two veteran players for a roster spot....NOT TOO BAD!!! Maybe Jim McNally is all he's cracked up to be as a line coach?!?! -
Everyone here knows that we will win the coin flip, and Terrance McGee goes 101 yards on the opening kickoff for the Buffalo Bills!

My Quick Overview Of The 06 Bills.....
Bflojohn replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One huge key might be J.P. using Robert Royal when the O-line has sprung a leak! I envision Royal being a big contributor to this offense. When J.P. does get time, he will have opposing "D's" on their heals with the deep pass options that he will have. Throw in a Willis McGahee to keep the pressure on D's to have to play 8 in the box, the possibilities are real good IF Steve Fairchild plays his hand well...
