Every time you post, you show very little football acumen, and to state that Early Doucet sucks is shortsighted, IMO. Doucet catches everything thrown his way, and will be a viable option in round two. Harvey is simply the best player available, and this draft philosophy is prevelent throughout the league. If you carry your depth chart into your draft room, you're asking for trouble! The late Joel Buschbaum (sic) of Pro Football Weekly used to restack his board after every draft to get a truer look at how boards around the league must have actually been ranked, by their order. Have you ever been suprised by picks in the early rounds? That's because none of us know what the teams and scouts know. Physicals and interviews are more preciously guarded secrets than the Pentagon seems to keep!! By the way, calling people retarded, to use your term, only makes me think you MUST be no older than 15 or so! Finally, who is playing end other than the BIG three you mentioned.... Al Wallace? Anthony Hargrove, Corey Mace?? Derrick Harvey is a very likely pick in that scenario, 26 sacks last year, including the trinity of DE's the Bills already have.

O.K. now, step away from the television and drop the remote!! Seriosly, I don't like it much.... I'd start with Derrick Harvey at #11 and get the impact player that 11 will likely bring. In the second round, the likelihood that Early Doucet is available at 41 is good, so I take him next. In the third, I would snag center Steve Justice to eventually weed out Melvin Fowler, the rest of this draft looks like this for me: 4A.) Kellen Davis, TE 4B.) Mike Gibson, OG 5.) Frank Okam, DT 6.) Jack Williams, CB 7A.) Sam Keller, QB 7B.) Hilee Taylor, OLB 7C.) Jacob Tamme, TE

My first phone call from Bills marketing
Bflojohn replied to Bishop Hedd's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allow me to sit the fence here.... I DO understand the premise of the post, however, we are fans, and as a result, we chose the answer to the final question.... Do I support this team, or NOT! In the analysis of intentions in regard to the Toronto "dilemma", I am struck by the need to question motive, and as a result, have ominous feelings about the ultimate outcome. Ralph Wilson could indeed have jettisoned Buffalo, New York at any juncture of their existance, so I'm inclined to believe that his overriding intent is to build a viable business that does include a wider net of potential dollars and cents, going forward. The real question is founded on his eventaul demise, and the after effects of the sale of said franchise. Support at this critical juncture is of paramount importance for the next five years of the lease agreement, in my opinion, so Buffalo Bills fans hear this.... go to the games and cry, yell, emplore and cheer for the men who call themselves Buffalo Bills!!! GO BILLS!!! -
You've been a Bills fan for too long if...

If you remember Dan Daraugh (sic) at QB..... Oh my goodness!! Not to mention Ed Rutkowski giving it a good effort?! -
First off, this little debate does NOT need to include Bruce Smith, we are skewed to a much higher opinion of DE play due to his illustrious career! The simple fact here is IF the Bills believe he is the Best Player Available regardless of position.... TAKE HIM! The draft shouldn't EVER be tied to the bottom line financials, or a specific belief about Play A,B, or C's contributions going forward. There are too many variables contected to the argument such as injuries, coaching decisions, and new player additions. In my opinion, Derrick Harvey may very well be the player who is BPA at pick #11, and as such, the Bills should entertain offers for the pick or take him, IF again he is graded that strongly ( we don't even know this!). The part of the equation that is interesting to me is the comparisons of specific players throughout the NFL to this player (Harvey), who has never played a game in the league, so it is total subjecture, so sit back and enjoy the draft people, they will land a significant player at #11, I'm sure of it....

There were two photos with this article by Paul Zimmerman and I had Jim Kelly autograph them for my son. The story was that he was in Phoenix for a hospital function, and he was a guest on KTAR Radio and I was invited to sit in on the festivities! When he was leaving I asked him for the signing of the first picture, which was Kelly standing tall in the pocket, with Jim Ritcher in the shot, and the crowd in the backdrop. Well, he signed the picture with the usual Best Wishes, Jim Kelly #12, and as he finished he turned the page. He found the second pages' pic and it was Barry Bennett of the Jets just slamming him in the mid section, and he wrote.... OUCH!! Jim Kelly , and I got such a kick out of the whole meeting. Great memories!!

ESPN Draft Day Memories -
Bflojohn replied to indiragandhi'sthong's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The cast of characters has changed rather dramatically over the years. Paul Zimmerman of SI and Howard Balzer (sic), of the Sporting News were early scouts who knew absolutely nothing at all. Paul McGuire was also on the telecast at some juncture, so you can see that it's been shuffled a bit since the inception. Mel Kiper, Jr. was hilarious with a poster board with his top talent littered in behind him and Chris Berman. Even then, it was great theatre, and they knew it!! Someone ought to persuade ESPN to release some of the vintage coverage so we could all get a good laugh!! Back then, however, it WAS the draft, and I loved it..... Note: When the entire idea was brought up with Pete Rozelle about televising the draft, he stated that reading the NYC telephone book, in his opinion, would be more interesting! Even Pete missed the significance!! AMAZING!! -
You, sir, are correct about being unable to trade a compensatory pick, however, the pick itself is now in your back pocket and you are able to bundle the 3rd and 4th you DO own and trade up into the late 2nd for a WR or TE. It certainly helps!!! It does give a club MORE flexability!
-
It also enables the team to consider ANY trade up they're interested in....great news! This is a deep draft exactly where the Bills has weaknesses! GREAT NEWS!!!

FYI: Article about small market woes, salary cap, etc.

The answer is a subdued YES, the competitive balance is going bye-bye people, IF this happens! Unless the owners lockout the players like the NHL did with their rank and file, THAT alone is the only solution, to me, that will keep this league "as is" going forward! -
Fans should be wary of Bills shuffle
Bflojohn replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
... Not to mention they (L.A.) failed two teams in a relatively short period of time! Historically, they have PROVED that the NFL is an afterthought! -
If I read the tea leaves correctly, every player is "on the hot seat" due to performance! Wasn't that the mantra J.P. had to wade through last year? To me, that was said by Dick Jauron all season in 2007, and 2008 shouldn't be any different! I'd wager that he made this statement at least five times during various news conferences throughout the year....
-
If and when the leagues players decertify or strike, it opens Pandoras' box, in my opinion! Greedy owners like Jones, Kraft, and Snyder will literally create a "haves and have nots" system, and the competitive balance is going to be forever destroyed by these men! The prospects of a Super Bowl win for Western New York will be wrecked, if it ever existed at all....

Character is worth everything to me! This is a game of extreme violence, and it occurs to me that it is more likely to spill out into the mainstream "real world" from players who are questionable in the character measures that are needed. Bryant McKinnie is a quality OLT, but the issues attached makes him a tradable comodity to a team like Miami, where I am sure Bill Parcells believes he can "cure what ails him". I also think that the teams most likely to "take on" the bad boys are the usual culprits.... Dallas, Oakland, and to a lesser extent New England come to my mind. Some teams take these guys ENTIRELY off their draft boards each April, and I applaud them for just that stance!!

I've watched film of Devin Thomas and I just see Andre Reed in this kid, especially in his build and his running after the catch. I am NOT one who likes to drown the other posters in hyperbole, but I got my wife the other day to come and see the highlights on this player and I asked her who he "looked like" and she didn't hesitate with the Reed comparisons. Andre was her absolute favorite Bills player in the 90's, so she sees it too!! How about physically guys? Are you seeing it?

I take a totally different view of the WR and TE depth in this draft. I actually believe that it is pretty deep at both positions which is a boon for the Bills. They could get a TE in round two and a WR in round three that could start this year, IMO. The DT position is still in need of an upgrade and I personally like Ahytba Rubin out of Iowa State. The Bills are an injury to Stroud away from EXACTLY what they had last year for a run defense. The O-line is in need of bolstering, and I'd draft a Center and Guard in this draft around the fourth or fifth rounds.

Virginia's OG Branden Albert looks to be a 1st rder.
Bflojohn replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Another affect of selecting this guy is that the Kirk Chambers experiment would come to an end! Brad Butler could be the reserve Tackle and Guard, with Branden Albert starting at ORG. The upgrade over Butler, IMO, would allow the Bills to build a dominant O-line for the forseeable future. Teams win in the trenches, and this selection could cement a playoff run in 2008. I'd be happy about it, without question! Who needs WR's early when ours could run free all day with a stout OL. Oh, the happy thoughts flood in..... -
Anybody remember this guy?
Bflojohn replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I knew OF him, because he played LB for the Bills around the time I went into the Air Force. No DirecTV back then, so I think the players were a bit more obscure, especially if they played for a losing team. They didn't appear on National Televised Broadcasts back then, the Bills were, shall we say, BRUTAL!! Todays game is saturation by comparison!! -
It takes a wise man to sit on the fence at draft time! BU1(SCW) is exactly right, and EVERY draft I've ever watched is a huge maybe to me.... we have a winner!! Jim Mora, back when he was coaching the Saints, once told the press, "you think you know, but you just don't know" and THAT statement applies to the NFL Draft in sooo many ways!!
-
Unless George Selvie has a Tommy Blake meltdown, he is destined to be a top 5 pick, IMO!! Side Note: I hope and pray the Bills leave Kentwan Balmer alone, Rubin and Bryant are my personal favorites at DT!

Another teams trash is another teams treasure? No thanks!

DE Derrick Harvey's Pro Day at UF.
Bflojohn replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I truly appreciate the debate about Derrick Harvey, but the film of his play against Michigan could easily be offset by his play against Ohio State with a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP on the line..... three sacks if I'm not mistaken!! Every argument has its flip side! -
Favorite all time Bills FA
Bflojohn replied to Hazed and Amuzed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've got a really good feeling that Spencer Johnson will be on this list in 3or 4 years! In addition, Derrick Dockery and Langston Walker are worth mentioning due to the upgraded pass blocking from last year. Kawika Mitchell is also going to impress, IMO! Can't seem to help looking forward folks!! -
It sure was an interesting "view" of this prospect, but my question would be, if his vision was 20/900, what type of improvement can Lasik make for a person like Bowman? Can they get his eyesite back to 20/20 or anything close? I think that is a valid question about this guy, going forward!
