If we're going to talk about training accidents... I've had the joy of having friendly mortar rounds called in on my position. Just because some !@#$ can't read a map. A piece of shrapnel the size of a brick landed about 3 feet from my head. One time we were clearing a trench and I was the first man in. I low crawled up to the entrance, threw in a grenade and cleared the opening. The 2nd guy in had a star cluster that he was suppose to pop off once he was in. Well, when he jumped in he accidentally set off the star cluster. I was at the T intersection at the end of the hallway and looked back to see this thing bouncing off the walls heading right towards me. I tell you, my ass puckered up pretty tight as that thing flew right past me. For my 7th parachute jump we did a night time jump in Georgia. I exited out of the aircraft and had what is known as a cigarette roll. That's where your suspension lines get tangled and your parachute doesn't fully open. I couldn't get my reserve chute open in time and shattered part of my right ankle. I was lucky and didn't need surgery, but it took some time for my ankle to heal before I could jump again. But its all good... it's part of the risks you take by being in the military.

http://www.duiblog.com/2004/10/23 A Closer Look at DUI Fatality Statistics For years now the "DUI crackdown", along with the accompanying loss of constitutional rights, has been justified by the numbers of deaths on the highways caused by drunk drivers. As the U.S. Supreme Court in Michigan v. Sitz said, for example, DUI "sobriety checkpoints" appear to violate our Fourth Amendment right to be free of suspicionless stops by the police -- but this illegal intrusion on our privacy is "outweighed" by the "carnage" on our highways of 25,000 deaths caused each year by alcohol. From where did these statistics come? Years ago, the statistics kept on traffic fatalities included a category for "alcohol-caused" deaths. To justify such things as sobriety checkpoints, lowered blood alcohol levels and automatic at-the-scene DUI license suspensions, however, these statistics were subtly changed to "alcohol-related". Not "caused", but related. This meant that a perfectly sober driver who hit and killed an intoxicated pedestrian, for example, would be involved in an "alcohol-related" incident. Similarly, a sober driver who is struck by another sober driver carrying an intoxicated passenger chalked up another "alcohol-related" death. Further, if the officer believes the driver to be intoxicated but chemical tests show he is not, the death is nevertheless reported as "alcohol-related". In fact, if the tests indicate the presence of any alcohol at all, say .02%, the fatality will be chalked up as "alcohol-related". In 1999, the federal General Accounting Office (GAO) reviewed these figures from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration -- and issued a report stating that they "raised methodological concerns calling their conclusions into question ". The statistics, the GAO report said, "fall short of providing conclusive evidence that .08% BAC laws were, by themselves, responsible for reductions in alcohol related fatalities." In other words, the statistics weren't even valid when applied to alcohol-related fatalities, much less alcohol-caused deaths. So what are the real numbers? The Los Angeles Times also decided to investigate the validity of these statistics. In 2002, NHTSA's figures claimed 18,000 deaths on the nation’s highways attributable to drunk driving. The Times found that only about 5,000 of these involved a drunk driver causing the death of a sober driver, passenger or pedestrian. (Research by other groups, such as "Responsibility in DUI Laws, Inc.", indicate the figure is actually under 3,000.) 5,000. A fraction of the number being used by the government and political pressure groups like MADD. Despite this irritating little truth, MADD, law enforcement and federal and state governments continue to use the same false statistics to justify the passage of unfair and unconstitutional DUI laws. -
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050520/clf053.html?.v=6 Wacoal Study Reveals That 90 Million Women Are in the Wrong Size Bra NEW YORK, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a national fit study by Wacoal, eight out of ten women in the U.S. -- or nearly 90 million women over the age of 18 -- are wearing the wrong size bra. The Wacoal study, conducted among 750 women, also reveals that the most common mistake made by women is wearing a bra in which the band is too big and the cups too small, with an estimated 35 million women making this mistake alone. "There is a stigma about wearing larger cup sizes, so women are reluctant to wear what truly fits their body. Wearing a bra that properly fits the body can change the way you look and feel, yet too many women are hesitant to go for a bra fitting thinking it will be as traumatic an experience as trying on bathing suits," said Liz Smith, director of retail service for Wacoal. "A professional bra fitting done by a trained fitter can be a fun and informative experience." Smith recommends that women get fitted once per year or whenever they gain or lose five or more pounds, start or stop an exercise program, become pregnant, and after giving birth. Telltale signs of an ill-fitting bra include straps that fall off the shoulders, a back that rides up or underwires that poke the skin. Women can get a free bra fitting by a Wacoal fit specialist or Wacoal- trained fitter at more than 1,000 stores, which are located in all 50 states. Smith and her team of 55 fit specialists have conducted more than 1.5 million free bra fittings for Wacoal in the past 20 years, making the company a leading expert in fit and comfort. "Being the fit expert does not end with the ability to properly measure women to determine their correct size," said Smith. "Being the fit expert means having the product to back it up, which is why Wacoal bras range from 30AA to 44G and are made to strict fit specifications."

I remember one time I went through a road block at 2am. I made the mistake of telling the officer I had a glass of wine at dinner. He asked me if I would take a breathalyzer and I said sure. Well he couldn't get his to work, so he had to call his supervisor on the radio. (who was most likely sleeping) 45 minutes later there were 8 police cars there and his supervisor finally shows up. I took the test and had no alcohol in my system. His supervisor was pissed! -

Link Man Accused of Tossing Kittens From Car HURON, Ohio (AP) - A part-time police officer has been accused of throwing two kittens out of a car while driving at 70 mph. Derik Wilhelm, 26, is charged with two counts of animal cruelty and two counts of abandoning animals. The charges are misdemeanors that carry up to 90 days in jail. Wilhelm is an officer in the village of Castalia, about 50 miles east of Toledo, and a ranger for Erie MetroParks. A man called the Erie County Sheriff's Office around noon Tuesday to report seeing a driver in front of him throw two kittens out a window. The caller estimated the vehicle was doing 70 mph on state Route 2. The caller reached dispatchers again about 30 minutes later to report seeing the man toss another kitten, this time on a street in Lorain. Police there stopped Wilhelm's car, according to the sheriff's office. Authorities couldn't find any kittens at the first location, sheriff's Capt. Paul Sigsworth said. They found one kitten in Lorain and treated it for minor injuries. Messages seeking comment were left on Friday for Wilhelm at both agencies and with relatives. Jim Lang, chief of operations for the parks district, said Wilhelm denied the allegations. "The only thing he says is it's not true, it didn't happen," Lang said. Wilhelm is due in Huron Municipal Court next week. ---

In my younger days I use to work at a grocery store. Part of my nightly duties was to clean up the restrooms in the store. Every night I would find a few home pregnancy tests in the girls bathroom. If the test came up negative, the girl would leave the test in the bathroom stall. However, I have never seen a girl leave a positive test. -
