  4. My Webpage Gym Calls Police On Weightlifter Who 'Grunted' Man Made Noise While Lifting 500 Pounds ALBANY, N.Y. -- You could forgive a guy for grunting while lifting 500 pounds -- unless you're the owners of a place called Planet Fitness. It turns out that grunting isn't allowed in their universe. Corrections officer Albert Argibay learned that the hard way this week. He was hoisting 500 pounds on a machine at the Wappingers Falls, N.Y., gym when the manager said he grunted -- in violation of the Planet Fitness rules. Argibay said whether or not he grunted is "open to interpretation." What's crystal clear is that police were called to escort him out after the manager came over and there was an argument. The gym said they don't allow grunting because it conflicts with the non-intimidating atmosphere they strive for. The gym, which refers to itself as the judge-free zone, has the following statement on its Web site: Planet Fitness strives to promote health in a respectful atmosphere. For over a decade, Planet Fitness has gone to great lengths to provide its members with a friendly space to work out. We call it the Judgment Free Zone. We discourage weight dropping and obnoxious grunting so you can focus on your own workout and not the person next to you.

He was arrested again Wednesday on charges of failing to register his MySpace account with State Police. Dutton, who served more than six years after a 1984 conviction in Ohio for attempting to rape a woman he did not know, had registered on the Web site under the name "Bubba." He is required to register as a sex offender for life.

  11. Nerds make early exit from Atlanta By BOB LONGINO The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Looks like Hollywood's latest batch of nerds might have to seek their revenge somewhere besides Atlanta. "The Revenge of the Nerds," a $13 million to $15 million remake of the 1984 college fraternity comedy, has shut down production in Atlanta after being unable to gain access to the Emory University campus for filming. in the process today of exiting the Georgia capital after filming began here Oct. 9. "Nerds," which is being made by 20th Century Fox's new Fox Atomic division, had expected to be in Atlanta through November. The young-adult cast of the film, which is expected to have an R rating, includes Efren Ramirez (from "Napoleon Dynamite"), Chris Marquette (from TV's "Pasadena" and "Joan of Arcadia") and Kristin Cavallari (from MTV's "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County"). Filming had been done at Agnes Scott College, the Georgia Capitol and other locations. Studio executives said Emory's size was important and without approval to shoot there the production might need to look elsewhere in order to complete the film. "For landscape and extras and outdoor scenes, Emory was necessary," said Fox spokesperson Isabel White. She said there was an original verbal agreement with Emory to film at the school, but that ultimately the private university decided not to allow filming there. Emory officials were unavailable for comment by press time. White said production on "Nerds" was shut down several days ago and time was spent trying to work out issues. The studio expects to complete the film at some location and is still planning a late summer release.

  16. My Webpage Area man charged with bestiality A 44-year-old Saginaw man remains jailed today on charges of bestiality after he was seen engaged in sexual acts with a dead dog, Michigan State Police troopers said. Ronald Kuch was arrested after police searched the area of Midland and Carter roads Friday for a man who ran away from a Bay County Animal Control officer. The entire incident was within view of a nearby day care center. At his arraignment on Monday, Kuch demanded a preliminary examination in Bay County District Court. District Judge Craig Alston ordered him to remain jailed in lieu of $500,000 bond pending a hearing on the evidence Nov. 6. Kuch is charged with crimes against nature and assaulting a law enforcement officer. Troopers said a woman from the day care center called for animal control because there was a dead dog near the property that had been hit by a car several days earlier. Before officers could arrive, the man showed up and began engaging in sexual acts with the dog, police said. The animal control officer also reported seeing Kuch involved in the sex act and as he approached him, Kuch shoved him away and ran off. State troopers searched the area and found the man hiding in the attic of a nearby house. Officers determined that the house belonged to the man's girlfriend and later learned that the dog, a black Labrador retriever, also belonged to the girlfriend. The dog had been dead for four or five days. The official charge of crimes against nature carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. If the person is a repeat offender, the maximum is life in prison.

  21. Spamhaus fined $11.7 million for blocking spam US judgement meaningless, says UK anti-spam project. An Illinois court has passed a judgement demanding UK-based spam advisory organisation Spamhaus pay $11.7 million in damages to a spammer it labelled a spammer. Spamhaus has laughed in the face of the charges, insisting that not only is the claimant a spammer, but that the court has no jurisdiction over them. Illinois-based company e360 Insight, and its head David Linhardt, sued Spamhaus after the organisation included information on them in its 'Register of Known Spam Operations' (ROKSO) (see their entry in the database here). Spamhaus mounted no defence of the claims, and a default judgement was granted to the claimants without counter-arguments. In several strongly-worded statements, Spamhaus described the laughable nature in the case, saying that not only are many of the charges without foundation, but that under British law the case would be impossible and illegal, as spamming is banned in Britain. Other claims, including the charge that Spamhaus prevented e360 from sending out its spam, are also derided. The project is ignoring not only the fines but also demands that the ROKSO entry be removed and that a public statement of Linhardt and e360's innocence be released. 'This is an example of litigious culture gone wild,' said John Hawes, Technical Consultant at Virus Bulletin. 'That someone can waste a court's time with a case that is not only baseless, but impossible to enforce, makes it all the more ridiculous. Kudos to Spamhaus for taking a strong stance and paying no heed to the court's demands.'
