  1. The funny thing about it is that I was pretty indifferent to Seahawks fans because I never really knew any of them until a year ago. I work with a team of about 75 people. There were 2 legitimate football fans that I could talk to before the super bowl - one is a Pats* fan and the other a Raiders fan. Now there's over half the team claiming to be football fans. Ridiculous. FWIW, Seattle is probably more of a baseball town... the Mariners actually do have a legit following of fans that care about the team. The Seahawks really don't. And for the record, I have seen 0 Seahawks apparel this morning. I can tell you from personal experience that I've worn my Bills gear the day after super bowl losses. And that was in the NYC metro area.
  2. I live in Seattle. Until you've experienced the fair weathered-nature of the fanbase here, and the obnoxious lack of football knowledge, I wouldn't expect you to understand. You know how much **** I took for that fake punt when the Bills were down by like 30 points in the 4th quarter against Seattle a few years ago? I wanted both teams to lose this one... but I'm pretty happy with the outcome.
  3. Hah... I don't know that I'd go that far. Peyton Manning fits the Jeter mold more than Tom Brady. Do you think Bills or Jets fans would cheer him off the field in his final game if it were in either stadium, a la what the Red Sox did in Boston for Jeter?
  4. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/XSR960/history/20150118/1415Z/KBUF/KNEW New Orleans this time? Hmm....
  5. Not a PSU fan... but this was a case where the logic behind the punishment didn't match the crime. If they gained a competitive advantage (think NE* style cheating, severe recruiting violations, etc) then I'd be totally fine with vacating the wins. That's not the case here. Fines, firings, criminal investigations, indictments, and jail time, sure. I'd even say the death penalty should be on the table. But you cannot just re-write history - their on-field performance has nothing to do with the crime. Particularly given that Sandusky wasn't even on the staff during the vast majority of the vacated wins. I think a stronger argument could be made to vacate the wins while he was on staff, including the national championships...
  6. Oh how I wanted Green Bay to win this. I take so much **** from people in Seattle for my misguided 'loyalty' to the Bills. This city is so full of bandwagon fans and this team is very unlikable. I may just skip the Super Bowl if NE* wins the AFC.
  7. ... or the fact that he used the first person ("me" and an "I" he forgot to delete when he edited his post) to refer to Marrone in his initial post... http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/174979-scathing-article-in-ny-daily-news-on-marrone/page-13?do=findComment&comment=3407241 ..... The Syracuse stuff is tiring. Unless you were here, like me, you couldn't know the remarkable changes he made I 4 years in a program that had become the worst in Div. 1. If he stayed the W-L record would be better. Missed the point entirely ...
  8. So did Dick Jauron. I tend to think Schwartz would be better than Skeletor but who knows.
  9. The whole Polian thing is truly bizarre. There could be a number of things happening... - This could all be a smokescreen for an eventual hire after the HOF vote. I kind of doubt this, if he really wanted the job badly, he'd be in Buffalo by now beginning the HC search. The 'top' candidates will be off the market by February and you cannot hire a coach before they officially hire a GM-like figure, what kind of message does that send to the new coach? - Polian bailed yesterday on Pegula, told Marrone, and since Pegula now needs to find someone else to fill the czar role, Marrone bailed since there was too much uncertainty, and Polian is blaming Marrone as an excuse. I think this is the most likely. - Polian really did bail after Marrone left. Florio's claim that it's about money is BS. Terry has proven time and again that money is never an object when it comes to these things and there's nothing to prove in this case that it's anything other than Polian 'changing' his mind.
  10. Wholesale changes are definitely needed on the offense. I don't think this is just a matter of getting a competent QB and a few guards - the RB position is a big question mark going into next season with FJ getting up there in years, and with respect to coaching, they need to implement a brand new offense built around the team's strengths. Whether we progress or regress comes down to the defense. If we lose Schwartz, Pepper Johnson, and/or players like Hughes and Spikes, yes, we could be in for a world of hurt.
  11. My fear is that Terry and Kim actually hire Reich. Pegula has a history of hiring people with previous franchise experience (Nolan, LaFontaine, now possibly Polian). I hope the fact that Reich is a former Bill does not automatically make him the choice. if he's most qualified, then great. Otherwise I'd like to see other choices examined...
  12. I work for that big company in Redmond, on the server side of things, though not directly in datacenter ops (I'm a software engineer for one of the O365 services). I would highly recommend looking into a VM running on AWS or Azure. I know you said that you don't feel capable of spec'ing a VM, but the great thing about a VM is that you can add and scale back resources like RAM, processor cores, etc on the fly. Backups, disaster recovery, etc are all typically taken care of for you. I can only speak to Azure since that's what I'm most familiar with, but you can run mySQL, UNIX, etc... you're not tied to Windows or SQL Server. And I can say from personal experience - you will have 24x7 support from the actual Azure or AWS product team, not just a generic support team.
  13. Of course, the argument could be made that the AFC South and NFC South teams had to play the stronger AFC North. The south's records were therefore poorer because they had to face stronger teams. Pittsburgh beat KC (AFCW), though they lost to the Jets (AFCE). Cincinnati beat Denver (AFCW), though they lost to NE (AFCE). Baltimore beat Miami (AFCE), though they lost to San Diego (AFCW). Cleveland beat Oakland (AFCW), though they lost to Buffalo (AFCE). I don't think you can draw any conclusions, good or bad, about the AFC North...
  14. 100% agree with you. Hackett has to be held accountable for this pickle juice infused retatta 'abortion' of an offense. Gailey had FEWER talented players, many of whom are still on this team, and did MUCH MORE with them. Gailey and Fitz would have been 12-4 with the defense this team has now. Hackett refuses to build his offense around his personnel's strengths. Spiller's performance in the last two seasons is concrete proof of this. Watkins will be next if changes aren't made. If Marrone does not make those coaching changes, well, then he should be shown the door by Whaley.
  15. I would be OK with Marrone staying so long as he fires Hackett and puts a Schwartz-type coordinator in place for the offense that has full autonomy. Marrone might be a 'brilliant' offensive mind, but it's clear that neither he, nor Hackett, are cut from the Chan Gailey or Ted Nolan cloth - he can't coach up lesser talent to perform at higher levels. That's exactly what this offense had this season (outside of the receiving corps)... poor talent and poor execution. They don't have the knack to identify the strengths of their players, and put them in positions to succeed. Spiller, for instance, has regressed significantly since these two clowns have been running the offense. Marrone is fine as HC, he motivates the players and seems to have them hitting very hard... but as far as scheme and execution, it wasn't there all season on offense. QB and OL play are to blame for some of that, but for goodness sake, the O-line is supposed to be the man's specialty and it was an unquestionable disaster.
  16. I completely agree that the kid should have to pay, and that the lawsuit is ridiculous, but let me play devil's advocate for a moment. I have a friend/former co-worker (recently laid off) that's in the process of getting a divorce. They have a daughter that's a junior in high school; very smart kid. She will be applying to a number of fairly expensive schools next year (Stanford being one that I know of off the top of my head). This guy's strategy to pay for college is to intentionally avoid getting a new job and collect unemployment until her FAFSA paperwork is processed by the feds and her prospective colleges next year. This is because the cost of attendance at a number of these universities is tied to the parents' income and ability to pay. If he doesn't work for a year, his stated income will plummet, and as a direct result, his daughter will now become eligible for all sorts of grants (not loans) that decrease the amount of tuition she will be paying. In the meantime, somewhat unrelated to the whole college deal, he sticks it to his (former) wife because he won't have to pay her a ton of his income. The root of this problem is that colleges tie the tuition they charge to the parents' ability to pay, not the child's. They call it 'need-based aid' but it amounts to economic affirmative action. So, if a kid has a wealthy family, and that wealthy family doesn't pay any of the tuition cost because they're trying to teach their kid to be responsible... then that kid is going to get stuck with a huge loan bill at the end of their four years while 'economically disadvantaged' folks will get a significantly lower bill. This is basically what happened to my wife... she chose to go to an inexpensive, state school which dramatically decreased her tuition bills, but her parents literally paid for nothing related to her college. Hell her parents took out PLUS loans, which they were legally responsible for paying, and made her pay on those. She qualified for no aid since the cost of attendance was lower than some of the glitzier schools. She ended up $70k+ in debt; we just paid it off not too long ago. I guess the point I am trying to make is that if this entire collegiate financial system is tied to the parent's ability to pay, then it isn't so outlandish to expect them to contribute something towards the kid's college. Of course, I disagree with the way the system is set up in the first place, since at the very least it inflates tuition to be much higher than it ever should be, but as the system currently is, it isn't that big a leap to expect the parents to pay something.
  17. The NFL has a few unwritten rules when it comes to making crew assignments. Three of them that make predictions a bit easier are: - No crew can have the same team back-to-back. - No crew can have the same team more than twice in a regular season. - No crew should be assigned the second half of a divisional series in a single season, if they were assigned the first half. These three rules eliminate Coleman (seen the Bills twice, and officiated the first NE*@BUF game), Brad Allen (seen both BUF and NE* twice), Wrolstad (seen the Bills twice), Walt Anderson (seen NE* twice), Bill Leavy (Seen NE* twice), and Tony Corrente (seen NE* twice), and Pete Morelli (Seen NE* twice). Other crews that have seen Buffalo once: Blakeman, Parry, Vinovich, Hochuli, Steratore, Boger, Torbert Other crews that have seen NE* once: Parry, Boger, Hochuli, Vinovich Crews that have never seen either team: Cheffers, McAulay, Triplette You want the Cheffers crew to have that game. He did the 2011 game in Orchard Park when we actually beat them.
  18. Bills @ Raiders: (Same as BUF @ DET). These guys call a lot of defensive holding and DPI, though have a very low count for illegal contact: R 4 Craig Wrolstad U 81 Roy Ellison HL 28 Mark Hittner LJ 47 Tim Podraza FJ 33 Steve Zimmer SJ 21 Jeff Lamberth BJ 27 Lee Dyer
  19. This is more a stat on our offensive futility than it is an endorsement of Carpenter's skills. Wonder where he ranks on field goal attempts.
  20. R 62 Ronald Torbert U 124 Carl Paganelli HL 37 Jim Howey LJ 84 Mark Steinkerchner FJ 20 Barry Anderson SJ 3 Scott Edwards BJ 38 Greg Yette

  22. I can't imagine the Bills letting Hughes go after this season. He's arguably the highest impact player on the defense right now, right up there with Mario. I'd honestly rather have Hughes on the line than Dareus if it comes to that for cap planning beyond 2015... the guy is just unstoppable. If he isn't a Pro Bowler this year I don't know what to say.
  23. Silver City is a good brewery, and their scotch ale is arguably their signature - you typically see 22oz'ers in the grocery stores around here (Puget Sound), and they are a fairly popular rotating tap. I've never seen any of Silvery City's beer in 12oz. Some of my other favorite breweries from around here are Elysian, Black Raven, and Ninkasi (though Ninkasi is actually in Oregon, not Washington). The Tamerlane Porter from Black Raven is probably my favorite. If you like hoppy beers, Fremont is a good choice too.
  24. I wouldn't be so confident. Remember this gem of a game? http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/football/nfl/game/browns_bills/2009/10/11#box-score Boger was the white hat for that game. Bills flagged 13 times, Browns flagged 3. Probably one of the worst NFL games I've ever watched.
