Week 5: Bills at Titans on Tuesday Night Football
sullim4 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The other hammer is held by Cuomo. Currently, professional sports teams have an exemption for the out-of-state quarantine rules. That can easily be pulled if the NFL is deemed to be reckless. -

The Bills should just flat out refuse to play on Tuesday out of player safety. We've bent over backwards long enough for Tennessee. -

They are bound by the terms and conditions of the agreement between the NFL and NFLPA. The team legally cannot do anything without an agreement between those two parties... and you can bet that other forces at play (i.e. the NFL, other teams that might find themselves in this situation, the NFLPA wanting local tax treatment, etc) would push back. -

It's much trickier than this. Tennessee is one of the states that doesn't have an income tax. Players would likely be subject to NYS income tax, which on their salaries, can account for a significant chunk of their paycheck. How this would be sorted out, who knows. -
Week 5: Bills at Titans on Tuesday Night Football

I think the Bills hold the cards here. Simply refuse to re-jigger the schedule if it's anything other than moving their week 11 bye. Refuse to go down to Nashville with the claim that they already broke the rules, we can't trust that organization to have properly followed them since the outbreak. Otherwise, force the NFL to forfeit the game in favor of the Titans. That would create a firestorm of bad publicity... -
Week 5: Bills at Titans on Tuesday Night Football

They certainly can play a game on Saturday. It just can't be televised unless they receive an administrative variance from the FCC, which I would expect them to receive given the circumstances. -
Put money on this - he's going to Miami as OC. Chan is old and Flores will bring in a Belichick disciple to replace him. Add Houston's picks to that too. Watch out for the Dolphins.

Postgame Thread: Bills at Raiders
sullim4 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They either need to drill this into him, or have Barkley hold for Bass. This is the second time now that he's done that, his track record as a holder with that incorrect fake field goal call a few years ago isn't awesome. -
In terms of creative scheduling, I could see them moving BUF/TEN to Monday or Tuesday night, and then swapping the KC/BUF Thursday night game with one of the Sunday games. FOX has the doubleheader that weekend, with a single game (GB/TB) in the late slot. TB plays on Thursday this coming week, so playing again on Thursday isn't a big deal. Green Bay has a bye week next week. The Chiefs already have 3 games in 10 days, so there is an argument to punting the Thursday game off to Sunday for competitive reasons. It also allows FOX to feature Mahomes in the late slot on Sunday which will be a ratings grab.

Fitzpatrick says his favorite NFL city is ... Buffalo
sullim4 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fitz is pretty darn close to my favorite Bill of all time. Not because of playing ability, but because he was one of the few players that "gets it" with respect to Bills fans and their relationship with the team. I also believe the speculation that he was "NeverGiveUp" on this message board... The only reason I would see Daboll taking that job would be to turn Darnold around. The rest of the team, and the organization, is a complete mess. It's a teardown/rebuild and I don't see how Darnold survives that. I think he gets shipped off elsewhere. -
Jackson has to improve as a passer if he expects to remain an elite quarterback. We've all seen the improvements over last season from Allen... I haven't seen that from Jackson. The other knock against Jackson - he cannot come from behind and he appears defeated when he's in a hole. Both Mahomes and Allen have proven they can do this. Jackson looks like the same quarterback he was last year. If defenses can force him into a pass heavy game, he's going to be ineffective. Personally, that is not the player I would want at quarterback and why so many people whined about Allen being unable to hit 300yds until this season. FWIW, despite the looming matchup with KC, I think Allen's big test is Belichick and NE*. They write the defensive blueprints for other teams to beat an opposing quarterback. Allen has to prove he can beat the cheaters before I give him a seat at the elite quarterback table.

Brady finishes off that drive.

CBS All Access / VPN experiment failed
sullim4 replied to Ra-cha-cha's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not on GamePass, but on SundayTicket.TV, you most definitely can. That is what I've been using for the last 3 seasons. Any local games will be blacked out though, and you will need to watch them on your local TV network. And as far as finding a university student... I bet you know someone with kids in college, or a relative that's in college. Maybe a coworker that's getting an MBA or MPA? All of these would qualify. You just need a name and a school. -

Sign up for SundayTicket.TV U. If you know someone that is a student, you can get a subscription through them for $99 a year. To me, that amount of money is worth avoiding the hassle of VPNs and location-based services. -
It could really go either way. Kickers can boom PATs and 65 yard field goals in practice, and then get the yips in a game time situation. Hauschka had is fair share of mental issues down the stretch so it's no given that he's any better, especially when you consider leg strength. Bass will get his chance and we'll see how it goes. It could end horribly and he could end up getting cut in week 4, or he could be a breakout. With kickers, you never know.

The punishment doesn't fit the crime. Brown is the biggest cheerleader for the Bills in the "media", if you want to call a team-employed beat reporter a member of the media. Unless this was a repeated thing, where he was told to knock it off and he kept doing it anyway, this is a gross overreaction on the part of the organization. He's been doing this gig for years to rave reviews from his employer, and now with the new rules he has to adjust. Adjusting after 20 years is hard and mistakes like this are bound to happen... and they are hardly major mistakes. McD started Peterman how many times? And the team kept Peterman for how long after these repeated mistakes? That was a much bigger mistake than this... and I didn't see any suspensions coming from that, and rightly so. Mistakes happen.

Athletes and other celebrities like the attention Twitter provides. I agree with you - if he didn't care what others thought, he shouldn't be on there. That said, it's very Billsy for fans to jump to the "fans didn't appreciate me" conclusion. This guy isn't Nate Clements, Gilmore, etc. He's still stuck with us if he sits out due to COVID, and loses a prime earning year, so I don't know what he gains financially by doing it.

Has MLB shown a "non-bubble" plan is doomed for failure?
sullim4 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only idea I have would be to them like mathematically eliminated PPD games in a normal pennant race and eliminate the Marlins from playoff contention. You can't really forfeit them because that unfairly gives the Marlins opponent an advantage in the standings. -
This is what I think has to be done. You have to keep all 32 teams in their own controlled, training camp type situation with next to zero contact with the outside world. As I said in another thread, soldiers are asked to perform tours of duty that last a year. This would last 5 months for folks making serious dough. Daily testing is of limited value when positive tests take days to show up. Buyouts of hotels and meals are cheap relative to losing this season's NFL TV money.

League agrees to no preseason games
sullim4 replied to DBilz2500's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's exactly what a lot of my coworkers have gone through since March. Many twentysomethings working in high tech that live in an apartment and have to wfh, oftentimes sharing it with a few roommates. This is the same age group of most NFL players. These guys are making a lot more money as well. We ask the military to deploy overseas for months at a time, away from family for a lot less money... I don't see why this ask of players is unrealistic.
