Matt Araiza accused of rape, served with a lawsuit.
sullim4 replied to bill8164's topic in Off the Wall
That guy is not helping his client's case. Like I said 40 pages ago, I think it's likely Araiza had sex with her, but the text messages between the attorneys is pretty damning towards the plaintiff in the civil case. It looks exactly what a shady attorney would do to extract money out of someone. -

My take based on everything thus far: - Araiza probably had oral sex with the plaintiff based on the phone call and the way his attorney behaved in that TV interview. What's much less clear is whether Araiza knew she was under age or not. - The gang rape seems like a he said/she said. My guess is we'll probably never know one way or the other, although it's possible one side or the other might have credible witnesses that tip the scales in either direction. - I agree with Araiza's attorney that it is odd that the civil lawsuit came before the DA decided to file criminal charges. - Those texts between the attorneys read exactly like a shakedown and a money grab... and if I am on that civil jury, it tips the preponderance of the evidence scale pretty heavily in Araiza's favor. I think the likeliest source of "trouble" for him is the statutory rape charge, but if the DA's office thinks their case is weak with regards to whether he knew she was underage... then they might fail to file charges. This is my guess on why the Bills are sticking with him... I don't think any of it sticks. -
Nope. Send McKitrrick back there when you need speed or Hyde when you cannot afford a fumble. Diggs' strengths don't play well to the punt return position anyway.

1st half thread: Bills vs Colts preseason week 1

For as horrible as Steve is... Andrew Catalon isn't horrible. He's not afraid to correct him, either. CBS has a strong slate of pbp guys. -

This is literally his job for 2 hours every weekday. He wasn't a great color guy in his last few years at CBS, but after being paired with Chris Brown for hundreds of hours of "programming", he's lost his mind. He can barely put together a coherent thought. -
But boy, that 1099 that Venmo is going to issue you for owning a football league in exchange for 15 bucks... ouch!

Looking at the map, I see heavy rail between I-90 and NY-5. I wonder how hard it would be to build a 2 mile extension from the stadium to that and run a shuttle train between there and downtown. That would solve a number of issues with parking, lack of lodging in the area, and drunk drivers that inevitably do stupid things after the game. The Bills attract a lot of out-of-towners given the migration out of WNY and they really need some lodging that isn't a significant drive away. Personally, I would really like to have something like this.

I've been to it, it's called Doubleback. They have some very good high end wines, but they are a bit above my price range. I have a hard time stomaching $100 bottles of wine at retail! $40-$50 is our sweet spot for "good" Bordeaux or Rhone reds, and there are a lot of those from mom and pop places along I-82 between Yakima and Richland/Red Mountain.

My retired parents moved from the Mid-Hudson Valley out to the west coast last year to an exurb of Seattle called Mount Vernon. Seattle isn't exactly cheap, but they are saving roughly 10k a year over their living expenses in upstate New York. That's even if you don't adjust for inflation. Biggest differences are property taxes ($6k less on homes nearly identically appraised), income taxes (zero in Washington state), and home energy costs. The pricer things out here are food and gas. Sales tax is almost identical (8.13% in Dutchess County versus 8.8% in Skagit County). If I were of retirement age in New York State, the only thing that would keep me there is family. It's just so expensive to live there. Personally, I have my eye on Eastern Washington for retirement. Cheap land, 300+ days of sun, hundreds of wineries and vineyards, no income tax, and excellent outdoor recreation opportunities. Every time we go to the Tri Cities and walk along the Columbia during the morning, and spend the afternoon at a vineyard or two... it's just bliss.

OT: Belichick says that Mac's improvement is "dramatic"

Just remember - Peterman was the king of training camp and preseason football. Come week 1, we'll see what exactly this translates to for Mac Jones. -

It's not a win-win unfortunately. This holiday is often attached to a longer mid-winter break for school-aged kids which results in travel during this weekend. That will negatively impact ratings. I don't particularly care for the Super Bowl's timing either, but there's a reason why it's in the dead of winter right after a major travel holiday (Christmas/New Years) and before another one (President's Day) on a Sunday night. It's meant to draw as many eyeballs as possible to the TV. -
Steelers stadium will now be called Acrisure Stadium

Heinz was perfect for that stadium and the city. I can't help but think that any short term gain from higher rights fees hurts them with this name. It's not pronounceable to anyone who's never heard of it, for goodness sake. -
Hah, this made me check the email address I had attached to my account. It was my old email from college that was turned off at least 15 years ago. I updated it, and the confirmation email came through just fine.

This is precisely the problem. Who is going to tune in for Rutgers @ UCLA at 7pm PT or USC @ Maryland at 9am PT? You have to figure the next dominoes are going to be Oregon, Washington, and maybe Stanford and Cal. At that point, Notre Dame will have half of their football schedule against Big Ten opponents... hmm... I wonder what happens to the Rose Bowl out of all of this when it's not involved in the playoff. Maybe they host the B1G conference championship?

Club Seats? 200 level, how are these different?
sullim4 replied to Kingston Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
The club seats are great. They are the only way I go to games nowadays - the bathrooms are clean, the crowd is enthusiastic but tends older and is significantly better behaved, and the amenities in the club are a nice upgrade over what's generally available in the stadium. Take your dad and have a good time - I'd highly recommend the club seats. -
Kim Pegula is receiving medical care
sullim4 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
My two cents... public figures generally get ahead of this by giving a high level description of the issue rather than a vague statement about a serious problem and an ask for privacy. In the current situation, you'll see people speculate on what the issue could be with no basis in fact. You'll also see the press start poking around to try to figure out what's going wrong. None of that would happen if they said something like "auto accident", "heart issue", etc. Totally get the desire for privacy, but the consequence of that is human nature - people are gonna wonder what the problem is. Better to just meet that head-on. Regardless I wish the Pegula family the best! -

I hope everything is ok... as others said, that statement sounded pretty serious. Any info on what happened? @john wawrow? -
The one possibly interesting thing they could do with the pro bowl - decide whether the AFC or NFC gets a ninth home game in the upcoming season. Sort of like the MLB all star game and home field advantage for the World Series that used to be awarded to the winning league. Other than that... agreed, it's utterly worthless.

I suspect they are going to have to. I find the stance untenable in a new stadium. I get why they do it now - they want people showing up to the games and not reselling the tickets because they don't plan on being in Orchard Park for 8 Sundays out of the year. At the same time though, many of us that can afford PSLs and higher ticket prices are in a position to do so precisely because we aren't in WNY. Personally, for me, I would love to have tickets in a section of fans that are actually Bills fans, know the team well, and won't be completely sloshed by the time halftime rolls around. The current club sections do a decent job of this, although it tends to be popular with visiting fans given the relative low pricing compared to what their team offers in their own stadium.

I make the trek from Seattle once a year to go to a game, and sit in the clubs with my dad. I usually buy on the secondary market. I would potentially be interested in some kind of (timeshare?) situation with seats. I'm intrigued by the idea of being able to keep a row or a block of seats in the TBD family and being able to go to games with "friends" here rather than randos who happen to be seated next to you. Since I always buy resale, I'm often seated next to obnoxious visiting fans rather than fellow Bills fans. I do think that things like undesirable December games against bad teams like the Jets or figuring out who gets dibs on playoff tickets might be hard. Everyone's gonna want the early season games, particularly for those of us who travel from far reaches of the country. I suspect it will be hard to make this kind of thing work - even friends in person sharing season tickets is like herding cats, but I would be curious to hear about any ideas that people may have.

Agreed. NBC (SNF) and FOX (TNF) have gotten this game the last two seasons. I would be shocked if CBS didn't get this matchup in the upcoming season.
