I was kinda surprised WGR didn't ask Whaley about his Marrone quote. As in, he mentioned after Marrone left how the Bills can now upgrade their head coach. How bad was their relationship?

Has Marrone's credibility as a Head Coach taken a hit?

Doug Marrone is toxic right now. He might be a viable HC candidate in a year or two when this chatter about him fades a bit. We'll see. I just don't see an owner wanting Marrone to be the face of the franchise after the nonsense he pulled here. You can't sell him on a fanbase now. -
Schopp loves the Rex hire. He's so impressed with Rex's public speaking style. Rex always wins the press conference!!

I'd laugh if this came true since i was the Captain of the Mike Glennon fan club on this board the entire college season before he was draft eligible. I definitely wanted him instead of EJ. Who knows if he'd be able to raise his game here. I don't think you have to "have legs" to succeed as a QB. You need to have great pocket presence and awareness...be intelligent and get rid of the ball. Brady just side steps rushers or steps up at the perfect time...as did Peyton in his prime.

I heard Cutler is very high on the "to do" list. He would not be my choice though.

I agree. As i said..great guy. Love him. The Harbor Center is genius. He owns our teams and has my full respect. Just don't need to hear him speak at live press conferences. The media kills him for not hosting an owners PC at the end of the Sabres season. I for one think its a good move by him to stay behind the scenes or go on record through private interviews.

Terry is the antithesis of smooth. Now that this press conference is out of the way...I hope we don't have to hear T-Peg speak until he puts a shovel in the ground on a new stadium. I love the man,,,but he's a terrible public speaker.

First day in town and already at Big Tree

Great to hear Jimbo was there having a beer w/ Rex and is at the press conference today. I heard from a Doctor friend in Buffalo (who is close to the doctors that are in the know) that Jim is not doing as well as being portrayed in public. This is a rough go for him. -
I dunno but if Jim Overdorf is telling one of his goofy stories in that shot, i feel bad for Rex.

With Rex Coming, Front Office Changes?
zow2 replied to norton20's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't help but think Brandon's head must be spinning. I mean it seems like yesterday he was spouting off in public luncheons how Doug Marrone is a great coach and changed the culture of the organization. He couldn't talk him up enough. Then in a blink 'ol St. Doug walks away from everything having to do with Brandon's beloved Bills, and it comes out how much of a thin-skinned, controlling jerk he is. Anyway- no real point here. I don't dislike Brandon...i think he is a WNY guy and wants as badly as anyone to see the Bills succeed. He is well thought of around the league in Corporate marketing circles. Just keep him away from the significant football player & coach decisions. -
I agree. no need to introduce the new football coach but having the in house cameras panning the suite at some point during the game would be a no-brainer. I'm sure they are giving the man and his wife a first class Pegula experience today. Nice dinner out and then a festive Sabres game.

Ladies and Gentlemen....The Eagle has landed. Chris Brown@ChrisBrownBills RT @buffalobills: Rex Ryan has arrived in Buffalo! #Bills https://twitter.com/ChrisBrownBills/status/555019750380933120

I like Schwartz and hope he wants to stay on. Sounds like if he wants to remain as DC, they will keep him. If he disagrees with Rex's philosophy or if his ego is too big and feels jilted by the Bills...then see ya Jim. I was bummed when Pettine left last season but it just goes to show it's a players league and this defense will still be solid with or without Schwartz. Same thing on offense. If the Bills get a solid QB and upgrade O-line the offensive coordinator will suddenly look like a genius in 2015.

Local media reactions to Rex seem positive
zow2 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've never been a big Rex fan but even I gotta admit, it's a great hire and a fantastic "get" by the newbie Pegula family. Forget his final year or two w the Jets. The guy can coach...everyone in NFL circles knows he can coach. He got a bad hand with the GM there, cheap owner and some horrible QB play. That happens. Look, someone like Jim Harbuagh didn't forget how to coach either. You have a bad season out of your QB and things go south quickly. It's exciting to see how this all plays out. -
NFC divisional playoff 2: Cowboys at Packers 1pm est
zow2 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I heard a National sports talk show mention that Green Bay lost out on the Super Bowl because of a Jordy Nelson dropped TD catch in Buffalo. The thinking was that GB was gonna win that game if Nelson hauled in the the 87 yd TD. Interesting b/c the Packers would be hosting Seattle this weekend if they had beaten the Bills. Obviously they are underdogs going up to Seattle now. -
Mehta: Fickle Falcons led Rex Ryan to take Bills job
zow2 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There was an 18 page thread on the Mehta article but when i tried to get back in and link the thread it says "page not found". How weird. It had some harsh words and inflammatory responses to i guess maybe the mods took it down. Anyway, here's another thread of many about Rex on that board. http://boards.atlantafalcons.com/topic/4021244-bills-moving-in-on-rex-ryan-falcons-dragging-their-feet/ -
Mehta: Fickle Falcons led Rex Ryan to take Bills job

Reading a Falcons message board makes me even more happy about this hire. Spin it however you like but the folks in Atlanta are very PO'd and disappointed that their front office and owner failed to land Rex as head coach. People will try to say this is a bad hire for the Bills but other teams and fans wanted him badly. This is a huge "get" for Pegula and the Bills. -
Why so negative after winning season?
zow2 replied to artmalibu's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not grumpy at all. I'm happy with the improvement. I'm speaking to the people that only want a SB...and making playoffs mindset not being good enough. -
Why so negative after winning season?
zow2 replied to artmalibu's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What's wrong with the goal being "make the playoffs"? Geez, yes EVERYONE wants to win the SB but you can't get there until you have a playoff caliber team. This team hasn't been in the tournament for 15 years. It's OK to root for playoffs then go from there. The mindset won't stop being to win the SB but you sorta need to get off the playoff schneid to get there. -
Please no more Mr. Nice Guys, get me a boisterous HC
zow2 replied to patfitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's shown that loud mouth head coaches as well as timid head coaches can both suck. There's no prototype. Again, get a solid QB and most of these coaches look above average. Pete Carroll, John Fox, Belichek, etc... They are not excessively loud and boisterous during games. They don't get in refs faces any more than Marrone did. -
I'm sure Jim Schwartz's career record as head coach (29-51) has a lot to do with him not getting interviews across the league. I've warmed up to Schwartz but in NFL circles he may just be slotted in there as a top flight DC and nothing else (kinda' like Gregg Williams). SO many of these owners want a new coach with either a winning track record or the up and comer like Chip Kelly. To hire a guy with a losing record just doesn't have a great look...but i think he COULD be a solid head coach here. As always it comes down to who he would hire as OC and of course the usual "get a solid QB" and all coaches look much better.

I was thinking this as well. Polian gives Marrone the highest of compliments but Doug is scared away by the idea of working with Bill? But then after Marrone opts out he runs to Polian to tell him about the behind the scenes bad mouthing of Bill at OBD? This whole thing makes no sense. It pretty much tells me that Marrone wanted the $4 million no matter what kind of smoke screens his agent put out there about bad "environment". It also makes me believe that Bill Polian simply looked at the 9-7 record like most national pundits and concluded Marrone must be doing a helluva coaching job. I'm glad neither of these guys are part of the Bills future.

You could make an argument for sure that it's tougher in Buffalo. Actually it's the fans that make it so tough. Once the media gets their hooks into a story (i.e. not going for it 4th down, punting too much, terrible O-coordinator, etc)...the Bills fans start foaming at the mouth to villify the team & coaches...plus we focus on the negative so much due to years of- not winning enough. So if a coach has "thin skin" ala, Marrone or Mike Mularkey...they aren't going to fare well here. Everything is so focused on the Buffalo Bills and how medicore or poor of a job they're doing. In NYC there's so much noise going on around the Jets...you have the Giants, Mets, Yankees, Knicks, Nets, 3 NHL clubs, college teams...tons of international news stories from there. Sure there's some tough media but i think it's more diluted in NY/NJ.

I'm not really interested in having the little red leprechaun here. No thanks
