I was bummed too. I would have driven to Hartford w/ my son to watch the first weekend. Or if they had been placed in the East bracket and advanced, the Sweet 16 would be in my backyard in DC. Getting placed in Tulsa and potentially Anaheim is a bit rough on the travel budget. Overall though, I agree it's a favorable bracket. Some people say Texas Tech is a bad match-up, but maybe UB is a bad match-up for them?!?

I like Botts,, but if he sticks with Housley after this season I will begin to question him. It's not working. Phil coached the team to dead last place last season and they weren't supposed to be that awful. This year's club has a nice core of players and he's coaching them into the toilet...again. Whatever his tactics are,,scheme, strategy, etc.. is not working. He doesn't have the ability to push the right buttons. Geez, even Lehner and O'Reilly leave this staff and suddenly they get mentally "right" again. After the season, find a new coach..and get a better goaltender too. Our goalies get outplayed by the opponents goalie way too often. I have some hope for Linus that he will improve in the future. Yes, defense too...but they will have to get a new coach to get the D corrected I think.
-
The team is soft and has no proven coach/system to rely on when things go South. Yes they don't score enough, and yes the D is bad at coverage,,,,,but the goaltenders the past two seasons have been really disappointing. They stole some games in the 10 game streak but then it just stopped. I still contend that Buffalo has more talent on their team, top to bottom, than some other clubs that are in playoff positions. They need to reset with a new coach. Sorry Phil, love ya for your history while playing in Buffalo but he's not a good head coach for this team.

I agree with this. I didn't want Phil back after last season but understood why they needed to give him more of an opportunity after getting Dahlin, Skinner and building up the roster. But it just isn't working. Last year was deplorable. And I don't know of an unproven head coach (like Housley) that can go from that....to making the playoffs in the ultra-competitive East. Maybe Phil will get another chance with another club, but i doubt he will be here a 3rd season assuming they miss the playoffs. I don't know what it is about the Sabres. They have good players...arguably a more talented roster than teams like Carolina, Montreal and the Islanders.. but they just don't employ a real proven system, and lacking a big time goaltender. I feel bad for guys like Reinhart, Eichel, Risto, etc,, They are missing the playoffs year after year in the prime of their careers. I'm sure they will want outta here within a season or so

The Phantom Hold and why the NFL is dying
zow2 replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The refs in football call too many penalties that they *THINK* they see. It's really hard to tell in real time with the speed of the game. Therefore coaches should be able to challenge holding, PI, and some other stuff that they currently cannot challenge. I personally don't care if the games take 4 hours or whatever. Football is only a once a week game. I don't care if it gets bogged down by challenges. Just get it right. -
Well she probably feels bad that she put a stake directly into the heart of Deondre Francois' career. But there's been enough red flags around this guy since he came to FSU... where there's smoke there's fire.

That is outstanding news. I like Coach L, overall he has done an excellent job.

Housley may not be the only issue but I would’ve fired him 6 weeks ago. If nothing else, to turn the tide. His system stinks and for whatever reason our goalies and defense underachieve in his style of play. Besides ive never seen an NHL coach finish in dead last place and all of a sudden turn that same team around to be a contender. Phil may yet be a decent head coach but it will probably be in his second stint, not here.

I need the Bills to draft AJ. Maybe not Top-10 but they can wheel and deal, move down a bit, get an extra pick and grab him somewhere late 2nd, early 3rd. I think he's going to be a productive pro WR, not the fastest but very good hands and positioning/body control.

UB’s Tyree Jackson has declared for the NFL draft
zow2 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in College Football
I think some folks are down on Tyree because the team couldn't get it done in 3 of the final 4 games. Those were some big games. He was a great QB for the Bulls but there are definitely some question marks regarding the next level. It wouldn't surprise me though if Tyree looks better in an NFL camp than he is being projected to look. For me, it's his accuracy. If he can tweak that in a positive way, he has a decent shot to actually get on the field in real games. -
AFC Divisional Playoffs: Chargers at Pats* 1:05pm CBS
zow2 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So much for envying Reich and Lynn. They made the playoffs w awesome QBs. Yay. -
I was responding to the OP of this topic with my opinion and what I have heard from TV analysts. Personally I haven't thought much about Mahomes so he's not something I need to let go. He was not on my radar in that draft. I wanted Deshaun Watson not a Big12 QB I don't recall anyone or any Buffalo media proclaiming prior to that draft that we must pick Mahomes or ripping on the team for not drafting him?!? I think it's a bunch of the "hindsight is 20/20" crowd now. I mean why didn't we draft Brady...or Russell Wilson when we had the chance?

I like KJ and think he will get a shot in the pros. Will be interesting to see how he does at Miami. No idea who will be throwing him the ball there..

Cleveland Browns to hire Freddie Kitchens as HC
zow2 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Execs are very smart to not be shortsighted by a few wins. Williams is super arrogant and he will get prickly. At the first sign of adversity he will alienate half the team and front office. Good move to go in a different direction now. -
Cleveland Browns to hire Freddie Kitchens as HC
zow2 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it was a good move by the Browns to move away from Gregg Williams. At the first sign of adversity next season, the Williams led Browns would turn on each other and there's be Locker-room issues (kind of like Marrone with the Jags). Just my opinion. -
Tre White has launched his own online store
zow2 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pretty cool. I did buy an Eichel t-shirt from the players association website 500level (link underneath). Like Tre White’s site, they can’t show team logos but the players name, likeness and team colors are well represented. It’s all about the players not the teams. Linked below is the NFLPA for Buffalo. The Eichel shirt I got is super comfortable. https://www.500level.com/collections/buffalo-bills-shirts/style-mens-premium-t-shirt -
My quick take. At the beginning of the 2018 season i was wishing the Bills had Tyree instead Josh Allen. By the end of the season I'm very glad the Bills have Josh Allen as their starting QB. Tyree will be a project and I no longer see him as having the same skills as Allen.

Wow. Figured he’d try to elevate his status with one more year of college. But that could also backfire based on how his game was trending. Good luck to Tyree. -
Buffalo's reputation amongst free agents
zow2 replied to clayboy54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There was a recent video piece on the Bills facilities, with particular attention on the cafeteria/dining/menu options and nutritional expert. The guys they interviewed...some draft picks and free agents said they were blown away and the Bills have the best setup and food in the league. So if someone bases their opinions of team facilities on a visitors lockerroom that’s absurd. -
Agree. Lamar Jackson gets credit for sparking his team and being an awesome running QB. Allen gets a bit of a red flag for running too much. His running stats as well as Allen's should be looked at as their entire productivity as QB's. Moving the chains with a run evens out any poor passes and drops in my opinion.,,,but it's not really viewed that way. Now, there's no doubt Allen must get his completion % higher as he moves forward if he ever wants to lead Buffalo to a SB victory. The running will level off, it always does. But for the 2018 season, When i look at the first downs he gained and the chunk run plays... he was very good, especially in those final 6 games. In my view of his play, Allen finished with 18 TDs, 12 INTs. Lamar finished with 11 and 3. That's pretty darn good.
