  1. 9-14 for 71 and an INT. Not exactly lighting the world on fire.

Also, i believe his one INT was returned for a TD. Not good. Anyway, I was always in the camp that Ryan Mallett would be an excellent pro QB. I still think he will and I'm pissed that NE got him. If he didn't get picked by the Bills I hoped he would go to the NFC. I was surprised that the 49ers did not draft him. big mistake.

  2. Another day another flash mob

    youtube.com/watch?v=bHyug2PvpB8

This particular flash mob robbery happened in a 7-Eleven near where i live in Maryland (suburb of DC). This area is not inner city at all but rather suburban and nice middle class (mixed) area around. Those kids are probably all 16-19 yr olds from the high schools nearby. Just ridiculous. We've seen several more in some nice stores in D.C. as well. I try not to think of these African American kids as "thugs" or whatever but they make it real hard. ALl the flash mob robberies around this region that are caught on video are black youths. Just sad man.

  3. I'm tired of offensive line commentary only because nearly EVERY fanbase complains about their teams offensive line. It's amazing how the best QB's always seem to overcome any O-line issues. I am in the DC area and all you hear and read are about the Ravens and Redskins complaining about their O-line woes. Not saying the Bills don't have issues but they are not the worst out of 32 teams. I bet 30 teams have similar issues. You just need to overcome it or build a defense that can take advantage of other team O-line problems and keep games close.

  4. They did look sharp. Still would like blue pants on the road but i am excited about them going back to blue jersey/white pants at home. The blue/blue home look the past several years was nauseating and only reminded me of Bledsoe/Donahoe/Willis and Losman for some reason. I am glad to move on from that. Part of me suspects they shelved the blue pants for now to keep the players from politicing to wear blue/blue again someday. Remember, it was the players who favored that look and management allowed them to wear it. Now there is no option. It's Blue over white at home.

  5. NO! No, no no no no no no!

This is NOT the kind of dink and dunk offense Trent would have thrived in. Do not equate short passes with dink and dunk. Trent excelled at throwing short passes to STATIONARY receivers. The short passes you saw from Fitz on Saturday were short, TIMING routes thrown to guys RUNNING to an open spot on the field.

Getting guys open in space. It's no !@#$ing mystery. Gailey has been saying it THE ENTIRE TIME HE'S BEEN IN BUFFALO. IT'S WHY HE LOVES ROSCOE, IT'S WHY HE DRAFTED SPILLER.

Edwards was doomed to fail in Gailey's offense because it requires the quarteback AND the receivers to identify the open area and get the ball there. Not run there, stop wait for the ball, catch it and hope you don't get creamed by the four defensive players barreling in on you.

Good point and one that I tried to make several years ago about JP as well. Losman threw a good bomb to guys streaking under it but all his intermediate and short passes were to stationary targets. He was horribly inaccurate at hitting guys in stride and then just stopped trying. I thought Trent was a little better but then he became totally gunshy. Fitz can hit guys on the move which is great, He's not always accurate but unless you are named Brady or Manning...it's just not that easy to be 100% accurate.

  6. Levi looked very Trent Edwards-ish to me. Even in hurry up time, he would take the safe outlet and not look downfield. I do realize he's basically a 1st year guy though and he doesn't want to screw up. He'd probably rather make the safe play than mess up. So far he has not distinguished himself to me as anything more than 3rd string-camp fodder.

Thigpen on the other hand looks to be the opposite. He seems to sling it downfield into double coverage without hesitation...which can be a problem. I watched his one start last year at Miami and this preseason game and he looked irresponsible in both games and a bit panic-y. Maybe that one year in KC, he took some chances and just hit a bunch of home runs. Now the book it out and he's striking out. We'll see. Let's just hope Fitz stays healthy and doesn't get hit too much.

  7. Fitz is just one of those QBs who looks average to below in practice and seems to really have to heave the ball to get velocity but in games he just moves the chains. He's definitely the guy this year.

I can see they will use Spiller to catch more balls out of the backfield. Good move. This guy needs the ball in his hands in space. I hope he has learned to go more north-south and take what he can. Freddie looked in mid-season form. Johnny white seems to be more of the Spiller mode but more power and less speed. He showed some soft hands as well. Now these guys just need some blocking.

I like Brad Smith and I'm looking at this as we traded Lee Evans for Smith and got a 4th rounder as well. Smith just gives us a weapon in many different areas. My main concern with WR is that we lack a home run threat. Maybe Stevie or Donald Jones will emerge. Heck, Roosevelt did get some crazy YAC at UB but that was against college kids. Easley has not shown me anything but now that he has a game under his belt maybe he will loosen up. You just can't expect any offense to go 10 plays, 80 yards more than once a game. Too many things go wrong. You need an offense that can pick up chunk yardage. We'll see how it goes. I still don't think they would have one more win, or one less loss with Lee Evans.

Don't feel like writing about the defense but the 1st team looked like a big improvement. Once you get to the 2nd and 3rd string we are in big trouble. Must stay unjury free.

  8. Point #6 is key. It was so obvious that the Bears depth was much better than the Bills depth. This is nothing new. Its why the Pats, Eagles, Steelers, Pack, Ravens, Saints and a bunch of other teams are solid. Injuries are going to happen to every team. Buffalo can't afford any. I can see now why national media predicts the Bills another 4 or 5 win season. I thought they could get 8 or 9 but that's if they suffer no major injuries and get some bounces.
