Benjamin Franklin replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't follow college football at all but there was someone here that day saying the Bills were passing on Ray Lewis. They had me convinced the Bills were messing up (not easy to get me to that place on draft day). -
Not going to defend Clinton but the point about Johnson is nevertheless valid. Read some newspapers dude.

Debate: Round I - 26 Sept 20:00 EST on Fox
Benjamin Franklin replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Howard Stern: 2 Cyber: 5 Anyone else find his use of "cyber" not tied to "security" or "terror" or "Attack" weird? I always think of cyber the way he kept using it as shorthand for cyberSEX. It was a really distracting debate moment. Here's the quote...re-reading it, god what a mess. "the cyber." As far as the cyber, I agree to parts of what Secretary Clinton said. We should be better than anybody else, and perhaps we’re not. I don’t think anybody knows that it was Russia that broke into the DNC. She’s saying Russia, Russia, Russia—I don't, maybe it was. I mean, it could be Russia, but it could also be China. It could also be lots of other people. It also could be somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds, okay? ... So we had to get very, very tough on cyber and cyber warfare. It is a huge problem. I have a son—he’s 10 years old. He has computers. He is so good with these computers. It’s unbelievable. The security aspect of cyber is very, very tough. And maybe, it's hardly doable. But I will say, we are not doing the job we should be doing. But that’s true throughout our whole governmental society. We have so many things that we have to do better, Lester. And certainly cyber is one of them. -
Encyclopedic, no. But smart enough to answer a basic question yes. Yes, I want that. Maybe even more so from someone who already had an awful moment on foreign policy. You can't space out on 2nd grade questions when you're auditioning to be the leader of the free world. My standards are higher than tolerating stupidity in a president. That he mentioned them before doesn't matter. If he was a good student, he could have named a world leader. If he was a better politician, he could have Trumped his way around the question. He needs to be both smart and political to be effective. Obama is a master politician--it's something to appreciate in him. Trump is a master media manipulator. Something to appreciate in him. Clinton and Trump are incredibly smart. Etc, etc. Johnson lacks all of the above and doesn't seem to be working to fix his flaws, which makes him hard to take seriously. He couldn't name a world leader he admired. And what stumped him was not juggling 10 world leader names in his mind and noodling out his favorite but coming up with any name at all. I mean, my god, THE POPE. For F$#%s sake you can never go wrong with the pope in a pinch. I could wring his friggin' neck.

Trump Alone at the Top
Benjamin Franklin replied to Gene Frenkle's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I'm going to keep after this because you're so amusing. Here's the link to the RCP polls. One poll, one, shows Trump in the lead. You live in the land of fairytales and unicorns--and your boy Trump. Make stuff up and maybe someday it will come true. -
You can't possibly be defending Johnson on this so I'll ignore your straw man. If your brain is functioning, you answer the question. Like I said, it was a softball. Giving Trump his due, when asked questions he can't answer, he always comes up with some crap to spew. Trump would have said (Putin!) "I would not answer that. It's not in the USA's interst to play favorites. We are our own model to the world." Or some such bravado to hide that he doesn't know any world leaders. Johnson couldn't even evade well. It was really awful. Trump supporters don't beat up Donald for his stupidity but the Johnson supporters like Magox and me see this for what it was: Terrible. In balance, it's nothing compared to what Trump and Hillary have done but that doesn't cure it. The ticket looks optically appealing: 2 former R governors in D states. One of the Libertarian problems, as someone who once dove in a little, is that like every party, it's got an insider process. And due to its fringe roots (free weed long before anyone with a back ache could get weed), the insiders are wackjobs. It's hard for me as a huge Libertarian sympathizer, to take the leadership seriously, let alone ask others to take the party seriously. And Johnson's gaffes undermine both Libretarian and any third party credibility.

The Donald has a case of the sniffles
Benjamin Franklin replied to ExiledInIllinois's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
So much wrong with your line of "thinking" here. Keep up the good work. Someone brought up race in this thread? Oh wait, that was you. -
Engaging with people on statements like this is my ailment too. Let me know if you find the cure.

You're an idiot. -
It's clear Trump is not preparing to be president and that's to be expected. He knows everything, "believe me." But WTF Johnson? You get caught looking like a dumbass on Aleppo and then you can't pick up the f+++ing Economist every couple of weeks? Modi, Merkel, Fox, Abe, hell even the Pope might have gotten him off the hook...it was a total softball question. You just name someone and say, "They faced some tough issues and have been strong in the face of adversity." Done. It was not a "gotcha" question. Really pains me to see his utter lack of preparedness and lack of desire to prepare. The year of people taking Libertarians seriously is coming to an abrupt end. I expect his 8% to go nowhere but down from here and he deserves it. Probably snag 2-3% of the vote. So disappointing. It's one thing to be weak on foreign policy and another to be ignorant. Obama couldn't match up on foreign policy with Clinton in the primaries in 2008 and I guarantee he worked his ass off to look credible when those topics arose.

Still Trump-truthing I see. At that link, were you meaning to link to the 6 polls that show her up by 4-6% or the one that shows him in the lead? -
Just keeps getting worse for Johnson. What is Aleppo part 2 pretty much exposes his lack of even study for the job. Trump could probably at least have named a foreign leader. Is Clinton the only one of these people with a brain?

Doc says not to worry. Next time Trump is going to prepare like it matters and bring it. Really? Your guy got smoked in the debate and this is all you got left? Was the "cankles" meme taken today? -

Most of what you say is straight from the paranoid whitey handbook. Illegal immigrants would mostly like to be living in certainty as part of America. A path to that goal that benefits both them and the US is in both our interests. -
He's stuck sub 10. I like him but he couldn't do a lot better than Trump. He's a bad public speaker and not the brightest bulb. Much more likable than Clinton or Trump but hard to take seriously, especially when he wears the sneakers.

You're just like him making stuff up. I didn't realize you were a Hogboy. For others http://www.realclearpolitics.com Trump trails Clinton by 2.4. Give it a few days to reflect the debate. -

Some are some are not. But the focal point of the tension has been the police shootings. So to come out and say "law and order" to the question of how the cure the racial divide is obtuse. It's like answering "I am against child molesrers" to a question of how to improve schools, except Trump's answer even fueled the fire. He's just a moron. -

Trump Alone at the Top

Based on his strong debate performances thus far? His knowledge of the subjects? The hard work he put in preparing for the first one? Trump is sure to go 0 for 3 in the debates with some chance to do better in the second debate where the format will be a little more circus. The question is how much it will cost him. -

Given the Reps control the Senate, amnesty, even if she wanted it, would never pass. That said, I'm not against immigration reform and a path to amnesty. Race relations will simmer. They rise and fall every few years. They will be fine under Clinton. Last night showed how ill-equipped Trump is to handle race relations. When asked about how to cure the racial divide, Trump answered "Two words: Law and order." Given the current hot topic in race relations is white police shootings of civilians, his answer shows a terrible understanding of what's fueling the issue. His better answer would have been "The best way to help race relations is to raise people out of poverty and improve quality of life. In business I created x htousand jobs and helped people raise their incomes so I will help ...yada yada." -
