  1. Could they be the visiting teams returned tickets? Good job on getting a great price, timing is everything.
  2. He did the Bills stuff but that wasn't his main job, he was in print sales at Holling Press on Washington street downtown. They did the programs from the early 60's till mid 70's. I used to get a game copy every Thursday before the game when he got home. I had the full 1973 season (by then it was a national NFL distributed program) with regional inserts for the teams playing locally, national adds on the first and last 10-12 pages, with the local ads and lineups inserted in the center. As for his cartoons, he did some submissions for a local hockey team that I thought was before the sabres, it was a viking or nordique kinda thing they asked him to do, but nothing really came of it. Most of his other stuff was one off stuff for the local Jaycees, fundraisers, people would ask him for caricatures for retirements and special occasions.
  3. I have a better shot of that one, but the file is too big to post. If you look at the bottom of the cartoon, in the grass, you will see the artists name, Weil. It was done by my father, Kevin B. Weil. The one Jack took a shot of in the Hall of Fame is the original submission Dad did in late 1959. Once it was approved, he did the home covers from 1960 to 1963/64. He also did artwork inside the magazine, placing the players face shots onto cartoon bodies in various positions. Some of his artwork was used over some of the entrances to the Rockpile. He would get $35 per cover and as a kid I would watch him draw these, since we share the same name, my job was to find where he hid our name every week. He would hide it in the grass, the cleats, jacket fringe etc. For Fathers day this year I contacted the Hall of Fame, they wouldn't let me get the flag, nor could they let me reproduce it, but he did give me the JPEG of the original that they used to create the flag. That was the file I tried to attach, but its too big to load here.
  4. Congrats on the gift that you will wrap and unwrap for 2 1/2 years!! Great news, best of luck
  5. Agreed, but pictures can be misleading, this one depicts a pool ball rack with an arrow in it, clearly indicating that a good first shot at the point of the rack will scatter the balls all over.
  6. Assuming that in the New Hampshire public school system the 18 year old in question has learned to read.
  7. Do not get the McDonalds franchise in India
  8. Die Hard, I am sorry to see you go, I have always enjoyed your posts and your insight will be missed. Your posts always seemed to have temperance and a level headed tone that was far and away more calming than the general hysterics here. We are all fans, some have just watched the game, others have been able to play up until college or in your case on the pro level. There are many different viewpoints yet the most valuable seem to come from those with age and experience. I hope you still have fun reading what the fans have to say, I don't disagree with your decision to supress your name since you are correct that someone would most likely make a comment, but it seems that many here may not even have been born during the period you were with the Bills. A few old timers remember the early years and that is what made the early 90s so special for us. Unfortunately, in my opinion, most of the noise comes from those who started following the Bills during the heyday and never suffered through the tough years. I truly hope your prognostications ring true. Best of luck
  9. An angry mob with pitchforks and torches perhaps?
  10. What video? I have been through this thread, was it removed? Thanks
  11. Well stated, yes we have had a bad team for many years, but I agree that the Buffalo fans have a sincere boundry issue regarding the players of this team. I have yet to see any other NFL team that has had similar incidents where people are messing with the players. When a Pat Williams, Clements or Antoine Winfield depart we blame the cheap owner, I wonder if any former players would actually say "the money offered by Buffalo was about the same, but one bad game and these jackals would be all over me, I'd rather be in City B instead" I would think if that were the case, the guy will say it was a huge difference and I had to look out for the family. Schoebul (sp) could have had the same thoughts, why bother listening to the unwashed masses while trying to start over in a new defensive alignment and hear the crap that he has lost a step and he isnt earning the paycheck, hell he walked away from it. Besides a few players like Kelly, Thomas and a few other well liked former players, how many will actually say in private that they enjoyed their time in Buffalo?
  12. "The dingo ate the baby"
  13. One spot for Parking in party zone please
  14. You scared me, I thought we ran out of alcohol
  15. Interesting thought, If there is a lockout, Is there a draft for 2011? If the draft occurs and no season is played in 2011, Will there be a draft in 2012? Would the same order be used for 2012 that was used for 2011? If so, could the team drafting have the two consecutive #1 picks for "11 and "12?
  16. His or the victims and thier families?
  17. I went to high school at St. Joes with Mike, not a bad guy, just maybe not a great interview subject.
  18. But for the panda, it is insulting. No self respecting panda would allow that man to be within 30 feet of them.
  19. Wait a few years, we may see that our kids are not attracted to the shallow, braindead, waste of skin that appear on those shows. Look at the husbands of those women, can you say whipped?
  20. "Slater was later arrested at his home in Belle Harbor, Queens by Port Authority officials. Police sources said that when authorities found Slater he seemed to be in the midst having sexual relations." Umm well, yea, macho steward having "relations" i feel sick
  21. Hmmmmm, career change or are the federales closing in ?
  22. I was going to post this earlier in the thread, but Lori is too modest for that and she would probably slash my tires if she ever thought I would stick up for her. We all know that Lori is a moderator and did the weekly writeup before games here for years. She is probably one of the most knowledgeable football fans ever to wander into this playground. That being said, she has maintained her press credentials for some time and her associations through her press access seems to have drawn TG and JW to this board. I can only imagine the horror and humiliation she had to endure when the TG thread went off the tracks. She is working for a small newspaper but uses her contacts and knowledge to mingle/compare notes with some of the more well known writers in the media. She then invites them to come to what she believed was a group of passionate Bills fans and as we all see it turned into a frat house beat down. Some people in the media like TG and JW may have access well beyond what some of these knuckleheads get from their couches, in some cases they may have to suppress that information that may have been said off the record, and sometimes you may have to read between the lines when they report on a player or issue. If they make statements that they cannot give resource to immediately, give it a week or so, usually the issue has been resolved and those who had read between the lines would know that the writer had the scoop, but just couldn't publish it in a mainstream source. By going to something like TBD, they are marking territory without giving up the source. As an analogy, In Lori's case, she invited colleagues that she admired into her home, and when the rest of the family showed up the brothers and sisters started picking their noses, farting and crapping on the table and she was mortified, personally and professionally.
