  1. My father is the artist for all of those covers from the early days. He got $35 per drawing, plus he did some of the artwork inside the programs. As a kid I would watch him drawing the next cover and since we shared the same name, he would hide his (our) signature in the drawing to see if I could find it. He wouldn't put it in until the final version. He was a salesman for Holling press, and he handled the account for the bills programs until he left. Every Thursday he would bring home this weeks program. I had a full set from around 1967-1974 as well as several random ones from the early 60s. I went away to college, and Mom decided to clean up......they were all gone.

  4. I like the Econolodge, I love having the bar (Warehouse) next door.
  5. I am 0-2 in Miami, so that's out. I am hoping I will do better in London, but Nashville has possibilities if the weekend lines up properly.
  6. They should check their facts, "When Taft left office, Pauline didn't transition to the Democrat-led Wilson administration. Instead, she retired quietly to her ancestral homeland of Wisconsin as the last cow to ever live at the White House." What about Elenor Roosevelt?
  7. I pick one worthy charity each year, Sally has been getting my donations for the past 2 years, she is the cutest, toughest little kid I have ever seen. I think of her every day.

  13. And award them to Buffalo for not saying anything about Revis
  14. His video actually makes him look worse. In this day and age of media access, this kid might as well drop out of school and take a job at the deli counter. No company doing a google search would bother to hire the kid. He looks like he is probably "Date challenged" and this will put him behind the knuckle dragging cyclops in the dating hierarchy.
  15. Not that I am a fan of Southwest, but they gave the kid several opportunities to get it right. I give the gate agent credit for being polite and giving him three options, the kid was being an ass hat.
  16. On April 15......

  19. We compared the 2013 Ford Escape and the 2014 Honda CRV, lots of features on the Escape, but in the end the CRV won out with 5 years in a row as best small SUV . Picked it up with 2300 miles on it for a steep discount. Love it and love the mileage compared to my F 150, also great in snow.
  20. I assume my wife's 403Bs and my former 401ks cannot be folded into the same IRA? So at best I would fold the 5 orphan accounts to 2, one in each of our names?
  21. A few years ago at a Pinto tailgate I remember Kenny surveying the Sunday junkyard with the assorted misfits and debauchery stretched out before them and proclaiming to one of his kids "Someday, this will all be yours" ( and I think he was being serious)
  22. Thats the problem, a financial planner wants all of them consolidated in one account, but then he offers only a limited amount of choices. Principal, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Fidelity and Transamerica are the ones, but they only offer the funds selection that give them the best incentives. I keep them separate, but their horizon/targets are all over the place. But at least with those five firms, I have multiple funds to choose from. As for picking stocks, I am horrible, but once in a while you hit and it is rewarding. Lately I am looking at dividend returns, once a payment comes in, I will but a few shares of something I already have or have been looking at.
  23. I have been contributing to my 401K since the early 80's, we are now over 50 years old and max out every year with the extra 5K per year. Because my wife and I have been at different jobs, we have five what I call "Abandoned" 401Ks which have no new cash going into them, but are part of our nest egg. One of my wifes' former employers deprecated their pension plan and she received a lump sum which we rolled over into one of these "abandoned" 401k's.( I was hoping that pension would have stayed since it would have been around 1200 per month for her.) My biggest failure is that between the 5 abandoned and our two current 401Ks, each one was set up with a strategy that made sense at the time it was opened, but neither one is appropriate for our current goals. I wish there was a way to consolidate them without losing the diversity that they offer across multiple firms. I have also have a modest trading account that I use for trying out different stocks that get my interest. I have Jetblue since we like the company, Ford, since I believe in the product (and they offer a dividend), GE, INTC and CSCO for the dividends. Some other stocks that I go in and out with in this account are things like TASR since they came up with a great body camera solution in the wake of the Ferguson mess, as well as some small biotech stocks that show promise and tech stocks.
