I've witnessed a lot of boorish behavior at the Ralph, some of it just plain embarrassing. Once a fan from whoever we were playing that week had carefully navigated his way from the bowels of the 100 level with 2 beers and some food. He had found a spot on the lawn near where the ramps are and had just sat down, gently placed his beers down and began to eat. Some drunk 20 something turd in a Bills jersey makes a bee line to the guy and lines up for the kick and boots his $9 dollar beers all over. He stood there laughing at the guy waiting over him for a response. I was never more ashamed about the behavior of another Bills fan than that afternoon. I went to get the guy a beer, but by the time I got the beer and got back to the spot, the guy was gone. Those are the kinds of idiots I wish Darwin would take care of.

A few months ago I had a couple of messages that were left on the machine, same deal, except if I did not comply and call back immediately a "local magistrate" would be sent to my home to incarcerate me. I checked out the number and it was reported as a scam, I was kinda hoping he was going to call back so I could goof on him.

After 9/11 somehow the thing that I wrote here about my experience ended up in a classroom in Mississippi where Hull's son heard it. The kid ended up getting a copy of it and showed it to his father. Mid season that year I got a personal letter plus several signed cards and pictures from Kent Hull. The letter asked how I was doing and just general "Hope this season turns around" and "Hope NY is getting back to normal" kind of stuff, but I thought it was impressive for him to reach out like that to a fan.

Agreed, but unless you listened to Van back when he was doing local college basketball, your only reference was the 14, then 16 game seasons. Rick Jeanerette had 82 game seasons, so more exposure to the masses. I remember Van driving past our house in Kenmore in the 70's riding his little moped, with the old school helmet with the plastic bubble facemask on it. He would scoot up in the late afternoons for the 6 O'clock broadcast and then return after the show. He would toot the little horn if you waved since he knew my dad and our house. Get well Van!!
