Tarditious? Is that a Doctor Who reference? (Claims that are bigger on the inside than the outside??) By the way, I agree with your post, and the Canonization / Demonization of players based on the most recent week's performance is probably my biggest TSW pet peeve.

It is definitely wrong to say that most of his sacks come in garbage time. First off, when you say garbage time, do you mean when the Bills are so far ahead that it's obvious the opponent needs to pass, and the outcome of the game is already pretty certain? ? ? ? Which games were those? 2005 6 of 17 sacks came in Bills victories 2004 5 of 8 sacks came in Bills victories 2003 5 of 11.5 sacks came in Bills victories too lazy to check 2002 and 2001... I DO see Schobel getting more than half of his sacks from persistence more than a dominant first move, but there's nothing wrong with that.

I don't really know about overrated or underrated.... My opinion of others' opinions is convoluted enough, I'm not sure I could carry on long responding to others' opinions of my response about this.... But, in terms of value (production for the $$) I think Schobel is solid, and is one of the best value on the team. When the opposing QBs run out of time in the pocket, it's usually because Schobel is a half second away (yes this means our secondary is doing its job too). He does not get the stats for these plays, but we would be dead without him. Who do we get more per dollar from? Schobel has been a bit quiet for a few games, as has the whole D-Line (the notable exception being Denney's monster game against Miami).... But over the last several years he has been an anchor for us. Not infallible, not Bruce-Smith-good, but solid and dependable. He has started in every game for us since 10/28/2001 and has been asked to do everything from contain the edge (esp in the cover 2) to cover receivers downfield under Gray, and has done well on his assignments. You guys are tough to please. Okay, I'll play along: Based solely on what I'm reading here, I'd say Schobel is underrated.

?? I thought this guy was a wide receiver?

"Dinner's On Me, Smartass" Update
Matt in KC replied to IDBillzFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think I should have said W against Houston and L against Jacksonville, but I still think we're on track for 7-9 this year, and clear signs of improvement heading into next year. -
The best answer from the choices above is clearly Lee Evans has a career day receiving if you ask me. Lee had 117 yards receiving and 3 TDs against miami last year. If he tops that, we'll have at least 21 points. I'm not too scared of the Bears offense. If we score 21 or more, we have a very good chance or winning.

"Dinner's On Me, Smartass" Update
Matt in KC replied to IDBillzFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well I'm certainly hoping that Exiled in Illinois is the only one left after this week.... If we do lose, I wonder how long we'll continue to WLWLWL alternating weeks. Trivia: what is the longest stretch the Bills have ever gone winning exactly every other game? -

Pooch Kick Ruling - - Were we robbed?
Matt in KC replied to Matt in KC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just don't get it. To overcome this, do our special teams need to let the ball go a bit more and grab it just as it hits the ground!? I am thrilled with our win, but am having a hard time letting this one go. Did someone say there was a show on NFLN where someone from the offficials explains / reviews odd calls / rules from the weeks' games? This sound familiar to anyone? -
Speaking of stats shown in the game, what was up with them starting the game saying it was Jauron's second year as Bills head coach? Is it me?! This is his first year... right?
-
So the Bills kick off and K Thomas catches the ball down field, 2-3 yards in front of a Minnesota player who gave a lame fair catch wave (not even over his head) and who was not really trying to cath the ball. Why is that a penalty against the Bils? Is there a rule that explicitly say the kick has to hit the ground or a recieving team player first if a fair cach is signaled? I found the below on-line, but don't know to what extent this is a dumbed-down version of the official rulebook. http://www.nfl.com/fans/rules/kickoff http://www.nfl.com/fans/rules/faircatch

When will the Bills lock-up Fletcher
Matt in KC replied to Buffalo Mike1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Two points about this: 1) tackles are reported on NFL.com with the other stats, even if "unofficial" 2) I think they are pretty accurate, at least for the Bills. I have been watching with TiVo and following NFL.com's game center for the last few years and almost always agree with their tackle / assist assessment (only 3-4 times TOTAL have I disagreed) -
It sounds like the statistics are the number of complaints and he's saying the Cowboy fans naturally whine more. This said, I'd get as many people to complain as possible so the math works out differently the next time around.

http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showt...80entry746268 Sorry if I missed an update. I did a quick search and didn't see anything. I assume this wasn't complete in time for the home opener? Thanks again for doing so much of the legwork, Jack.

I am considering a significant down-grade in responsibility at work, dropping two levels from a VP to a manager position. The pay cut will likely be 25-45%, but I hope the change (including relocation from DC to the midwest) will be worth it and will let me spend more time with my wife and young daughter (10 weeks old) not thinking about work. Okay, I'll ask. Where did this figure come from? Random? Savings needed for retirement?

And then someone put him on mini ("we kinda don't want you") IR.... I think TV has been a model player and teammate, and haven't seen anthing at all in his interviews or actions that I can be critical of with a clear conscience. But, at the same time, it has seemed like he's been playing with less fire in his belly the last couple years. I think this is a good move for everyone if Bowen is really returning before TV could be ready to play again.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!
Matt in KC replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just focus a bit harder and maybe it will come true. Unfortunately, at this point, if you were institutionalized for a 72-hour observation period, you wouldn't get out in time for the kickoff. So, maybe you'd better relax instead.... -
Should the Bills run more or pass more against
Matt in KC replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1/3 Running Plays 1/3 Mid or deep pass plays 1/3 screens, and other safe short high-percentage passes (okay, maybe a bit less than a third of all O plays) This addes up to more passes than runs, but the short passes are really more like running plays. -
Who on this franchise would do this?

Very funny! I think if that was the quote, they would have mentioned how clever it was in the story. -
Peter King update on Whitner pick
Matt in KC replied to syhuang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In response to this part of your post, I think I'm pretty far on the optimist end of spectrum for TSW, and rarely B word about the players or performance. -
Peter King update on Whitner pick
Matt in KC replied to syhuang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe "glaring" was too strong a word. Yes he made a great play, but his decision to try to catch the ball seemed like a very pooor choice, and almost backfired. It was a classic rookie mental mistake if you ask me, on the same play where his physical performance dazzled. I don't expect Whitner to play mistake-free and am thrilled with his play so far. I wouldn't have brought up the attempted catch except that this was cited as "a HoF type play." -
Peter King update on Whitner pick
Matt in KC replied to syhuang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with the spirit of your post, and was very impressed with Whitner's physical ability and instinct on the conversion. But there would have been no value to picking off the 2-point conversion. After he made a spectacular move to close on the ball, he should have knocked it down. The ball bounced within about a foot of the WR's hands in the end-zone, almost negating his strong effort. This stood out as a glaring rookie mistake to me, an example of his need for further coaching. -
It was very clearly a pick. The play was drawn up very well (all defenders accounted for), but while Reed slowed or stopped right before the contact, he targeted the defender and ran right at him, creating contact just before the ball was caught. If the timing was right, it looks like this would consistently be a huge play. Roscoe is the right guy to scoot through the space that opens up on a play like this. He has a lot to prove still, but count me among those that thik he is a dangerous weapon for the Bills.

Here's a "blast from the past" thread that shows what people here were thinking about Nugent before the draft. http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=17207&hl= This just shows what a crap shoot the draft is....

What is the meaning of "snap"?
Matt in KC replied to stuckincincy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=snap Here are the 3 definitions from UrbanDictionary.com that I think are most right-on. (And I am so hip, man.)
