UPDATE: QB Vince Young Signs With Buffalo Bills
Matt in KC replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Now if we still managed to have our 2006 pick at #8 on the roster... (say we'd taken Ngata instead of Whitner) I like it. We seem as solid as we've been in a long time. We're not just barely (or not quite) holding it together as a team. I don't get the sense VY really could rock the boat enough to threaten the team. I'd like to see us give VY 3 plays he runs again and again and again in practice where we could bring him in occasionally and give our opponents one more thing to prepare for. Amen! -
What a tiny dive! I never liked that place. (Sorry if it's an old favorite.) I was always more likely to be smoking by the canal and/or train tracks.... Unfortunately, I left Pittsford before the Bills started training camp at SJF.

Grew up in Pittsford, now live in the suburbs south of Kansas City, on the Kansas side.

Where we stand right now in the AFC E
Matt in KC replied to SpecialK15's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've really thought about that too. I feel the best I have in a long time about beating the Pats. We may have a near-perfect storm: New pass rush.............) New LBs........................) New DBs.........................}--> New Defense New DC.........................) Healthy vets returning..) Retirement of Matt Light Not much film out there on our new D (Frankly I wish we played in NE the first two weeks) And with Bounty-gate maybe Brady will finally stop beating us so badly -

We're tied for first place in the division. (Let me enjoy that for as long as it lasts!) -
Fred Jackson signs new contract
Matt in KC replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excellent news that Fred was extended, obviously. Now I wonder if people could stop calling him "Fast Freddie". I've read that at least three times in the last day or so. Speed is not Jackson's strength, it's vision, fluidity and perseverence IMO. And to compare him, purposely or accidentally, to Jonathan "Fast Freddy" Smith who we drafted in 2004 is an insult. -

Sam Cowart Andre Reed Fred Jackson Antoine Winfield Terrence McGee Kent Hull Steve Tasker Honorable mention: Travis Henry for his untacklable attitude at the end of each run Frank Reich - what a great guy! Least Favorite: Matt Stevens - I know it's not right to dislike a backup for not being very good, but he used to drive me crazy and the Bills kept going back to him. Wow. I had no idea he was in a motorcyle accident and is paralyzed for life

Which team were you the scout for? I not sure you were really the scout. What kind of car do you drive? -

Until this post I thought you were just young and ignorant. So all pro honors don't mean anything now, huh? Right. (...and you started in post 171 using this to argue why it was better we had Wood than Peters!) Enjoy being alone thinking that. Look at those lists! It's quite an honor to be included. Troll -

Fantastic return. I'd guess it's the best NFL kick return to result in no points. And McGee's in the YouTube video with another nice TD return at the 3:00 mark. -

Okay, sorry if I came off like a dick. I thought it was right there after a quick google. I can't find the video posted either, but just watched the reaction video on BB.com. Man, Fred has a great attitude. How could you not love having this guy on your team? -

Sorry to anyone I offended. I know my response was insensitive, but I thought he shot himself in the head and research on his brain was likely out of the question. RIP Junior, a true competitor. Not trying to be funny: I wonder how suicide rates compare for young lottery winners. I'm just trying to untangle the likely causes: Extreme wealth starting just out of college concussions chronic pain other?

Other outlets reporting now, but all citing TMZ on info Junior is dead.

Tape? Film? What decade are you guys in?
Matt in KC replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You make good points, except lose a few points by the end.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_rights_movement My hairdresser is 23 years old. I was shocked when we talked about music my last cut and she really had no idea who the Grateful Dead or Jerry Garcia were. She had heard of Bob Marley, but only kind of knew who he was. I'll have to make her a mix tape! It actually would be hilarious if I did that: Here you go! [What the heck am I supposed to do with this thing!?] -
Rd 7, Pick #25: K John Potter - Western Michigan
Matt in KC replied to Dennis in NC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because of the directional kicks, I assumed Lindell did not have the leg to get touchbacks until last preseason when he kicked 9 touchbacks out of 13 kickoffs (69.2%), including several kicked out of the end zone. Another was run out from 5 yards deep. I don't understand this draft pick. I'd be okay with keeping him if he consistently gets touchbacks and that keeps Lindell fresh and accurate all year. But, we're facing some tough cuts this year. It seems like quite a luzury to keep 2 kickers. -
Of course you're right, but I still wouldn't want anyone I work with to know I was downplaying their value in the market place. I suspect this is entirely washed away by the NFL initiation whirlwind and all that comes with it.
-
I understand why they'd spread that misinformation, but why on Earth would Nix admit to it later? Isn't it likely Glenn will read this and know Nix may have caused him to get picked later and lose out on some salary?

Our opinions of this draft, pick by pick.
Matt in KC replied to NickelCity's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it will depend if people keep comparing him to the WR they wanted us to draft (say Floyd, or Hill) or what they think of Graham (late round pick), or what they think for a third round pick. I have to say I'm expecting him to perform like an Antonio Brown, and will be pleasantly surprised if he can contribute succcessfully. -
So What are the Weakest Links, post-draft
Matt in KC replied to Geno Smith's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I haven't heard anyone mention a glaring weakness: 30+ year old exceptional running back. Fred is going into his last year. I think the front office needs to focus there before the season starts. We don't have any 30+ year old exceptional RB behind Fred and they are not easy to find in free agency.. Holy cow, you put all that in the Shout box? Nice write up. I can't disagree with your main points at all. I will add to the list: Punter. This is a footnote to our list of needs of course. I think Moorman's best days are behind him. He's served us well, but i no longer feel like he's a strength going into the season. -

If Asper could longsnap too, I'd love the addition of him and Potter (and lose Sandborn). -
Is BPA or need more important in rd 2?
Matt in KC replied to Chris in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the later you go in the draft the more the picks are based on need. By late in the draft you should know where you still have a chance to upgrade. Yes, it still depends the talent available, but not as much as at the start of the draft. Would you rather draft a 7th round player with a 10% chance of performing at the level of an active game day back up in a position where you still need another backup; or would you rather draft a player with a 13% chance of performing at the level of an active game day back up who only has a 1% chance of being better than the current starters and backups already on the roster? Of course by the 7th round I think GMs are thinking of the practice squad, next year etc, but the above is the basic dymanic of the question.
