Kansas City; What's going to happen?
Matt in KC replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you're missing the point. That the Chiefs have Jamaal Charles is not a reason we're going to beat them, the same as the Bears having Matt Forte wasn't a reason we beat the Bears. Let's say Matt Forte is better. So what? Does that mean you think we'll beat the Chiefs because they don't have the single best RB on their team? -

Kansas City; What's going to happen?

Charles in phenomenal. Since he returned from his ankle injury (last 4 games) he's gaining over a hundred yards per game (run/reception) with 5 yards per carry and 17 carries per game. There's no doubt he's a top 5 RB, and he's been looking great. I wouldn't be so fast to write him off. -
I'll concede that. But I thought the whole point of this thread was to answer "If the Bills could do it all over would you make the trade?" when it was posted October 6th, after the first 5 games. Yes, with hindsight, I still think Benjamin + picks is better. Without hindsight, I had, and have, no problem at all with what the Bills did. I am thrilled with Watkins and prefer him to Benjamin. I have watched some of what Benjamin has done this year, but not nearly as much as Watkins. What I have seen is another game-changer, remarkable for a rookie. I have no doubt about Watkins' skill, just open questions about Benjamin, their long-term durability, and if the Bills really needed those picks to round out the cast of a winning team. Time and perspective will sort out who is better, and by how much in the long-term. Another couple weeks in a row of performances like this week's, and I'll change my mind and vote. I just doubt that Watkins has the better showing every week, and expect it will take longer to get a realistic view of what their initial 4-5 years will look like.
-
Exactly where my head is. Why? If I had to decide today, I'd choose Benjamin and the picks. I wasn't screaming for Benjamin at any time; I just think with the benefit of hindsight we might have done better going a different direction.
-
Totally subjective and not based on any history, I like Benjamin's chances of bouncing back up after a direct hard hit than Watkins. That's all I meant by sturdier. I think you're right about Watkins getting better separation, but Benjamin looks very talented coming down with contested balls. Did you see the catch he made this week sandwiched between Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas? It was an excellent play, and unbelievable for a rookie.
-
Oh, absolutely. But that's the same if we took either WR, right? And I'd feel a lot better about Benjamin bouncing back from a square hit from a LB. My bad. I edited my original post. I'm curious if Banjamin's numbers continue to come down as defenses figure out something out about how to defend him.

I'll grant you the off-field problems is a concern, Enough to sacrifice next year's 1st and more to avoid? Not for me (at least yet).
-
I don't know. I think being bigger and stronger endures better than speed in the NFL. Little dings can really derail a speedster's season. Don't get me wrong, I love love love Sammy's separation (though I love his ball-skills more), I just think those extra ~30-40 pounds Benjamin has will help his longevity comparatively in the NFL. They are both studs.
-
If Sammy keeps this going until the end of the year and/or Kelvin fizzles (or at least looks just good and not a natural playmaker), I'll change my mind somewhere before the end of the season. Their stats are very close to each other: 38 receptions for 571 yards / 5 TDs, versus 38 / 590 / 5 for Benjamin. I'm not just a stats guy, but Benjamin passes the eye test too, and appears sturdier. A tie for performance takes my vote to Benjamin plus the extra picks. Correction! Watkins = 38 / 590 / 5 Benjamin = 38 / 571 / 5 (I had them backwards, not that it changes much.)
-
I voted no in the poll. There are a few things to understand about that vote though: This is a retrospective poll, with all the benefits of hindsight. I had no real problem with the trade at the time, and no real regrets now. You need play-makers to win, and I liked the commitment to winning now, even while I recognized the price was high and it was a bit of a gamble to have all that collateral tied up in a single player who might get hurt. Kelvin Benjamin has also been a very good play-maker. With what I've seen so far, I'd rather have him plus the additional picks the Bills gave up. Give me more time and hindsight, and I might change my mind again.

The 7 7/8th Annual "Dinner's On Me, Smartass" Contest
Matt in KC replied to IDBillzFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Week 8 - Bills @ Jets LOSS Week 10 - KC @ Buff WIN Week 11 - Bills @ Fish LOSS Week 12 - Jets @ Bills WIN Week 13 - Browns @ Bills LOSS Week 14 - Bills @ Denver LOSS Week 15 - Packers @ Bills WIN Week 16 - Bills @ Oakland WIN Week 17 - Bills at NE* LOSS Some of my choices don't make sense, the same way results look each year. -
I just added Dixon as #5 on that list. I get 11th priority on the waiver wire and so may not get any of them. I just tend to think Dixon will not be worth as much. I wouldn't play him against the Jets, unless desperate, and the next week is the bye. I agree with your thinking that roughly Brown = stealth (Spiller); Dixon = more power (Fred) . I just think that Summers may cut into the Dixon role, and Fred will return, leaving Brown much more valuable. Dixon made a couple good catches, but I don't think that plays to his strength. In my half ppr league, that gives Brown that much more of an advantage, but still leaves him behind Mason and Robinson.
-
It hard to drop Welker, but he looks like the right choice. After that I'd say don't pick up KC since the Bills have a good matchup against the Jet week 8. Instead get another defense for week 9, like Minnesota at home against Washington? The other option is to package one of your TEs and another mid-level player for one player that is better, and free up a roster spot that way. . . .
-
1- Tre Mason 2- Denard Robinson 3- Bryce Brown 4 - Miami Dolphins (@ Jags with their 4+ sacks allowed per game, and injury problems) That's my waiver wire prioritization for this week, putting Fred on IR and dropping Andre Holmes to make room for up to 2. ?- Anthony Dixon - doesn't make the cut
-
Everything you can analyze will point to Stewart being the best play for you today. However I have a feeling CJ will have a big day against the Vikings. I rarely let my feelings have much sway over my roster decisions, but you should go ahead and give that a lot of weight.

I saw Spiller listed as a drop candidate in the waiver wire peice by Jamey Eisenberg (CBS) this week: http://fantasynews.cbssports.com/fantasyfootball/story/24751980/playing-the-waiver-wire-for-week-7

I haven't read anything beyond this thread. Is the cause and effect clear? Which came first, Mike Williams "acting up" or being deactivated?
-
Congrats Johnny Hammersticks and ricojes, you made the right call, to sit Harvin. I on the other hand sat Benjamin. In the end it didn't matter for me; I got smoked by the top team this week which started McCoy, J. Bell, Oliver, J. Nelson, Sanu, Cardinals etc.. I hope you played Sanu, Dante. And sorry about Cruz.

Mike & Aaron Williams not active today vs. Patriots
Matt in KC replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It sounds like we're going to see Fred and CJ on the field at the same time. -
The third game of 2010 (9/26/10) is the only game that both played New England where Spiller has better fantasy stats. I don't remember if Fred was hurt or what, but he only rushed 4 times.
-
Really? Spiller has been better against the Pats? I'm surprised, but still pre-coffee and too tired to look it up now. What did you see? If Fred is active, I would play him, unless you watch the pregame and he looks green , like he has the flu or something. If that happens, post here, and I'll bench him too!
-
Yeah, if Fred sounds healthy, I'm likely to play him. I agree he's safer (if healthy), and TY Hilton sends me into the week with an advantage. I was thinking about Sanu and how it's a similar situation with Green out. But unlike Benjamin, I don't think the defense can focus as much on him. Or can they double him all day? Who else does Cinci have at WR besides Green and Sanu anyway? I think Sanu is safer, especially with any PPR; Cruz has higher risk+reward, and might really go off. The Eagles are allowing the 4th most yards/game to opposing WRs so far, 197, and can't focus on him as much as the other guys we're talking about.

Vote: Who is the Best Player on the Bills Roster?
Matt in KC replied to johnwalter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Carpenter shouldn't have been thrown in with the Offense. I wonder if Easley or Carpenter would have gotten more votes for Special Teams. . . . or Shmidt or Hogan?
