Incognito's team suspended him, so it's not like there was no reason to believe he was fully in the wrong. There was a lot of smoke around this, however the fire started. Also, it doesn't mean bullying is any less of a problem, or that the team might have been deadly stupid for making Incognito one of its leaders.

And Lars was only a little out of time and Kirk Hammett's guitar was just a little out of tune. I guess on the plus side they probably wouldn't be plugged in anyway at the SB, so why not go for it? -

EJ knee surgery, Tim Graham questions, draft QB?
RuntheDamnBall replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Again, we're talking about likely the fourth QB drafted. It's unprecedented to see four go in the top ten. The reason being that most likely there is a talent drop off after the first group, if not earlier. It's very unlikely that there are four star QBs in this draft, and if there are, I would bet a sizable amount that one of them won't be a top ten pick. 2012 could be a historically good draft for QBs if Cousins ends up being a starter in this league and Foles keeps looking decent. Still, one of the top four QBs taken is a major injury concern, another (Tannehill) basically has EJ's trajectory thus far, and Weeden is the other. You can adjust for Wilson being "worth" a first rounder but the fact is that teams are going to grade players based on risk. There are risks the Bills can take -- that Murray will recover from injury, for one; that Boyd can grow into the game, for another -- that don't involve wishing on a first-round grade when one isn't there. You can get Ebron and a Murray or a Boyd and still have options for EJ insurance. Going back to TG's original statement: he does believe they need to draft a first round QB. Ergo, he believes a worthy one will fall to 9, the Bills should trade up, or they should take the best one available even if he's fourth best. Sounds like the kind of drafting for position rather than for talent that sets franchises back, IMO. You can argue till you're blue in the face that the Bills did that with EJ but they did it in such a way that they netted a DROY candidate at LB too, so to me that levels the argument - they got the QB they liked best in the draft and a LB thought to be the second best defensive rookie in the league. This is the kind of draft plan they need to stick to. Maximize talent, at all positions, till you get it right. -

EJ knee surgery, Tim Graham questions, draft QB?

I think LB is no maybe, TE is a definite, and we'll see what happens with Jairus Byrd. O-line has one major hole and realistically two just at the starting positions, and then they could use 1-2 depth players. Thankfully not all of this needs to be solved via the draft. -

On its face, nothing. I agree with you. But if he is challenged by a first rounder just for the sake of rolling the dice on another QB talent, that's foolish. My argument is that there is not likely to be the kind of guy worth spending #9 on when we pick. -

You can look at it that way. I look at it as better asset management, when you have a QB that you believe in, to support that QB with weapons instead of rolling the dice on another QB. But hey, if EJ fails a TSW contingent gets to be right again and that's what it's all about, is it not? I look at it more like the 49ers did. Build a complete team and keep looking for QBs, but don't accept that they are only going to be available in the first round. Being bold hasn't helped the chargers any, BTW, and to be honest I see fear of failure in the way they acted - in passing up Eli and in giving up on Brees due to injury. -

The danger I'm speaking of is not of that variety. It's the one where you replace your starter and watch him go on to win titles. BTW, the Chargers, oft cited as smart for their management of the Brees situation and netting Rivers plus picks for Eli, have three fewer titles than the QBs they passed on. -

Love Neil but the league is never going there with his not so photogenic aspects plus his politics. Foo fighters are fine and appropriate but there is something missing there for me. -

Am I arguing that they don't need EJ insurance? Because I'm pretty sure I was simply articulating the merits of sticking with a guy beyond one season. Sorry if I wasn't being clear. Insurance is fine. A QB in round 2 or beyond could be great value. Taking the draft's fourth best QB in the top 10 or trading up seems to me a poor plan. -

Let's just say we disagree and call it that. Well, that, and that the next time I choose to watch Aerosmith will be the first. As for good acts for this stage, there aren't many. Prince was my favorite. You need someone big and charismatic enough to play to that crowd, and the music industry isn't producing a lot of acts like that these days. I'd much rather see some local talent in every spot. Based on the crowd pleaser at the Grammys, Daft Punk with Stevie Wonder and some other classic 70s soul artists could be a good choice. -

I'll bet the NY Giants are kicking themselves for sticking with Eli Manning. But you know, by year 5 he finally got over 60% completions and above an 80 rating. Somehow they won Super Bowls (plural, not Flacco-Dilfer-Brad-Johnson singular) with this bust. -

Some of them think it's worth committing the cardinal sin (again) of giving up picks to move up in the draft. This team should not be in that business. -

While I respect your opinion, that's a bunch of subjectivity you've provided, especially the "sound of Jimbo's voice." Kelly is not an NFL talent evaluator and, more than anything else, I imagine he is not going to champion a guy until he proves it with regularity. He expressed belief in Losman, Edwards, Tebow, Fitzy at different times. A veritable "where are they now" of NFL starting QBs. <p>I am not sold on EJ being the guy yet, either, but I think he needs another year to give the team the data it needs. He won some games for this team and can rally them back unlike many of the QBs I've seen around here in awhile.  % -

Allen Wilson was pretty good at getting this kind of inside chatter. So was Felser. I think part of it is about the kinds of people you bring in. I do like Gaughan, but he seems more adept at the analysis than the insider stuff. -
Tackling technique is the difference
RuntheDamnBall replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel this way about Wilson, too. Like Flacco last year, he had some stellar moments and no big mistakes. He didn't put on a clinic like Manning or Brady or Luck sometimes can, where you feel they are unstoppable. Seattle had an answer for everything Denver would do, and all they were left with was getting blanketed on the checkdowns. It meant Denver's defense was bound to get tired and exposed, especially without some of their better pieces. -

I'd love Murray and I think that he's worth that pick. People who study the draft more than I do think that he might last longer, but I'm not so sure. He might have been a first rounder last year and probably at least a second. -

1-2 in the playoffs and the win was a squeaker. -
Did anyone else watch that game tonight and say to themselves, "this is the best tackling unit I have ever seen"? I did. The reason Denver couldn't do anything tonight is that Seattle was always there to stop them, especially on those plays where the receivers are supposed to break tackles. It helped that they got consistent pressure to flush a slow-ish Manning from the pocket. If the Bills defense is going to get better, they'd do well to study tackling technique and get as good at wrapping up guys and stopping gains short of the markers. If they ever want to get past NE, this is what they have to do.
