"We need more reps." Holy s**** guys, they need more reps and it's already June. Dooooooooomed. #Mariota2015 #shouldvetradedforSkelton -
You know, funny that we heard rumors this off-season that Chip Kelly, who already has Shady McCoy in his stable, was interested in trading for Spiller. It's almost as though coaches who know what they are doing on offense can see his value on that side of the ball.

Rd7 Pick #237 OT Seantrel Henderson U of Miami
RuntheDamnBall replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If this kid becomes even a good swing tackle, and his upside is higher than that, he is a RIDICULOUS sum of found money. If he doesn't, so what? He goes to the trash heap with the other 85% of 7th round picks. Big deal. And while his repeated drug test failures are disconcerting, they suggest a lack of discipline more than they do some real personal issue. I would wager that at least a quarter of the NFL uses marijuana or some kind of synthetic, and half the country thinks it should be legal anyway. The NFL has even discussed its medicinal use. If Henderson had a coke or prescription painkiller issue that was chronic, or an alcohol problem as many of our heroic Bills have had, I'd be more concerned. If the Bills can teach him that there are greater rewards to be found without it, that's terrific. -
Chandler does just enough to convince you that he is worthy of a shot as the #1 TE, and screws up just enough to not be a #1. I realize that everybody makes mistakes, but you expect your TE to be nothing if not helpful in the clutch. He simply drops the ball too much -- sometimes on easy passes -- and that fumble in TO was deadly. He isn't a classic safety valve TE nor is he a WR in a basketball player's body, nor is he exceptional at blocking. He might be the SJ of TEs without the drama: a dynamite #2, a subpar #1.

In other words, Hackett needs to put him in a position to succeed. You're spot-on here.

I think we're saying two versions of the same thing. Think about a guy like Frank Thomas. When he could be obtained for $500K he was a very well-calculated risk. In the eyes of the White Sox his skills had diminished. The As didn't need him to be 1995 Frank Thomas, though. They just needed him to be very good. He was beyond that. He played his way into a very expensive contract for the Blue Jays -- one the As knew he wasn't going to be worth by the end of it. He provided huge ROI for the As. Bartolo Colon is another recent example. These are really low-risk "risks," in terms of financial outlay, but they do cost roster spots and you have to be willing to give guys a chance.

Rotoworld: Mike Williams may get cut?
RuntheDamnBall replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They've cut guys whom they have invested more in, but I generally agree. -
He's hard to bring down, or to even touch, once he hits the second level. The focus needs to be on getting him there, and helping him learn how to find it with more frequency. CJ strikes me as a guy who needs encouragement, not a coach barking in his ear. It seems like getting on him for what he can't do, or isn't doing, isn't really working.

There are conflicting reports out there. Spotrac says 2013 and 2014 money is guaranteed. They call it $9.4M but it looks like it's actually $9.6M, plus a $200K workout bonus that I believe he must have already earned. http://www.spotrac.c.../mike-williams/ Rodak as usual provides some info but not complete info, and he has some numbers wrong. http://espn.go.com/b...lliams-contract LaCanfora tells us that the 2015 money (the 6.8M minus the 600K workout bonus) won't be guaranteed until day 3 of the 2015 regular season. https://twitter.com/...131205725450240 Basically, the Bills can keep Mike Williams through next season's camp for a price of $2.8M (this year's money + 2015 workout bonus). That's pretty good for a season's + two off-seasons worth of look-see and control over the trading rights to a very productive player. If he doesn't make the team this year at a cheap but guaranteed salary, it will be because he has f---ed up royally. -
Well said. I think to expect a lot from Moeaki is very dangerous, but if we were to apply an analogy of a team like the Oakland As where you take these kinds of calculated risks, some of them do in fact pay off. As such, you get big production for a small amount of money, then wash your hands of that risk when the dollars don't line up. A successful campaign from Moeaki buys them time to examine TE prospects going forward, saves money that they can hopefully use to extend some of their other players, and perhaps makes him feel comfortable re-signing here.

Obviously it's easier to throw touchdowns in the dark, obviously. -

After four years he still hasn't had enough time? I mean, is it not clear enough by now that he's basically Sam Aiken 2.0? Not Tasker, but not Alvin Bowen either. -

I am just happy that now there is finally competition to see who can make the best Redskins apparel and merchandise, as the free market intends. -

It is not lost on me that DC would be a haven for a big idea that was laughably obsolete. -

That's a weird frickin' photo - all the segways + hot chick silhouette. I mean, I'm not hating it, but I have never seen that many segways in one place in my life. -

I must have missed the part of the constitution that mentioned patents. Also, it's always splendid when a conversation about a football team on a message board becomes a referendum on all that is wrong with America including that pesky public education for all. -
