Hear, hear. Please add Palmer into that mix. If you ask me, Logan was probably one of the worst villains of the season. His incompetence could have been as consequential as any of the actions of the terrorists.

I love the Stones. Here's one of my favorite pictures of one of them rocking out. Link -
Anybody ever see comic Brian Regan?
RuntheDamnBall replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Saw him last year at Caroline's in the city, had never really heard of him but my brother said he was hilarious. My bro was right. And to his credit he is totally clean, which is all the more impressive. -
Compassionate Conservatism...Gotta love it

It's not a dodge. They banned one party for being irresponsible but not the other, who was at least equally irresponsible. It's a double standard, and a sexist one at that. What gives? Methinks someone else is doing the dodging here. It does take two, after all. -
Occasionally, I find stereotypes funny. You, my friend, have succeeded.

Umm, they didn't ban the father from graduation. What gives there? Oh, right, they were respecting the young woman... -

I'm not a Christian in the traditional sense, but I definitely am close to people I would say are Christians for all the right reasons. People like Ann Coulter just use it as an identifier and source of power, but don't live out any principles of love or faith. The prospect of a world of Christians like her is frightening to say the least. -

Convert them to what? She certainly doesn't seem very Christian. You know, "turn the other cheek," "love thy neighbor," all that stuff? -

What about the radio, and taping songs off of it? It could be argued that now people are just taping songs off of a very clear radio with a much more diverse playlist. We could also all argue that because you owned an LP of "Blizzard of Ozz," you have already paid for it and are entitled to a free CD or MP3 copy of it, rather than paying for the digital remaster. The industry's catalog is a racket. How else do you measure selling Pink Floyd CDs for 20 bucks? It's pure profit. -

I was making reference to some of our friends' retorts in earlier Coulter discussions. For the record, I think Ann Coulter is probably Andy Kaufman. -

Great slogan, though. I remember this ad for them with a guy surrounded by Moogs, Rick Wakeman style, wailing keyboard riffs, and then the slogan: "Schaefer's: It's the one to have when you're having more than one." Classic. -
Newsweek F*cks America...

You're probably right about that. But then you also know that life for a Muslim who is a goat farmer in Afghanistan can be incredibly different from life for many other Muslims. My point is the generalization does nothing for the big picture, especially for people who have a pretty singular impression of a vast and diverse region and people. -

I don't think we have a lot more access to behind-the-scenes weapons manufacture than we did back then. Maybe I'm just not searching for it. But what has this to do with the way the government deals, or doesn't, with its detainees? -

RuntheDamnBall replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Precisely, you don't know. None of us know if it's possible this was true. What you're offering up are some pretty lame reasons. I'm just suspicious someone would concoct this story for no good reason. I think the president has been one of the people running the "hearts and minds" campaign so I fail to see your point there. Your misguided attempts to discuss "real" Muslims like "Abdhul the goat farmer," who reads the "Queran," are as indicative of our media-influenced (lack of) understanding of the culture and religion as this story. -

Newsweek F*cks America...

I think we are probably, as Darin has suggested before, less able to deal with the day-to-day struggles of war, where you win some and you lose some but you keep slogging on, because it surrounds us in a way via the media in a way it didn't in 1943. By the same token, our lives are not much different than they were even before 9/11 (marginally so, but not on a daily basis for most of us). The idea of sacrifice is non-existent. The thing is that we are not dealing with 3 networks and radio here. It's infinitely different than 1991 even. The overexposure is limitless, because the possibilities of making money via this overexposure are limitless. Information will get out there, if only because someone with the money and the story to tell is going to tell it. Controlled access is out the window. -
Newsweek F*cks America...
RuntheDamnBall replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Again, if the story is false, and people died because of it, this is unacceptable and possibly illegal. If so, those responsbile should see charges or some heavy fine/suit for it. Also, as fans of the free-market system I'm sure you all understand the hit Newsweek is going to take here, whatever the facts. They are going to be hurting, and that reaction is part of the responsibility they bear if the source was bad. My question about the source remains unanswered, though. If the source did lie, then ultimately Newsweek's trusted source is most responsible. If not, then what happened, here? -

I find it amusing that you think the media's job is to do the government's job, or that the media would somehow know more about Saddam than the military would. If it troubles you so much, why don't we just get rid of the first amendment and start subscribing to the "Uncle Sam Times"? Neo-Stalinism rules! I also find it amusing that you think Fox News is any less driven by capital than NBC, CBS, CNN or any other news division. Preposterous. If you honestly believe this, you are as brand-driven and media manipulated as any of the "lemmings" you and your pals chastise. -

Another question, unpoliticized for your pleasure, I just honestly would like to know: if the story is indeed untrue, what sort of motivation would the "unnamed source" have for telling it, knowing the damage it could cause either way?
