OLine/Blocking/Film Review and Notes

Nicely done. Good work, sir, it's appreciated. -
She should be able to do that in her work space. She can probably even have a nativity scene at her desk. But if she wanted to tack crosses all over a public building (not just her space) then there should be some questions about that because then it gets into whether the government should be representing one particular religion above others. Personally, I don't see why people would get offended if there was a holiday party that was a blanket celebration for everyone -- people who aren't religious can celebrate the coming days off if nothing else. It's not as if people are so offended by religious display that they'll go work on Christmas to spite the religious right.

No question. I was raised Methodist and still adhere to a lot of what I was raised with.

Yeah, thanks. You know from my post history that I don't agree with it, but I follow the logic. Appreciate the explanation.

This is not a slam on the church, but an honest question -- aren't all in the congregation considered with sin, hence the need for confessions? Why would gay acts be on a different level?

Philosophically, I'd disagree with you there. Math is just a representation, an idea, a man-made one, to help us account for the way we think the world works. Evolution is the same kind of thing. It's not absolute, even though we detect and infer patterns from the natural world. The hang-up for Bible literalists is that they (say they) honestly believe every word of the Bible was written by the hand of the Lord (meanwhile I don't see many of them living Kosher lifestyles or selling their wives into slavery, but I digress). So they take what they see as a man-made idea that conflicts with the divinely fashioned text, and attack it. People who view the Bible (I believe rightly) as a malleable text, one for which there were great political struggles as to what was included and what was not, and for which the oldest parts of the text are perhaps more tribal myth than pure history, don't seem to have as big of a problem with evolution, or the way it's taught. Sorry if that sounds very convoluted. The people who do have a problem with the way it's taught, as others on this board have posited, likely don't care a whit about evolution or getting equal time. They want their beliefs forced upon the classroom, ultimately. These people should send their kids to private school. Honestly, I think parents are (or should be) a strong enough influence on their kids that they try to instill what they believe in them, and then the kids are left to their own decisions. They can't be automatons. My parents did this for me, but ultimately let me become my own person and shape my own beliefs, which are a bit different from theirs, but rooted in the values they raised me with (we don't always agree, but we have good conversation about it). I know for some this kind of thing is a problem, but I would be proud of my kids if they were thinking about these topics a lot, and trying to understand our world -- and the world without -- better.

"Where's my burrito!? Where's my burrito!?"

Take this analog to math class: The math teacher says 3=3, that's the way our system of representation of the physical works in Arabic numbers. A kid comes in and says to his Math teacher that the Bible says that 3=1 as a representation of the Trinity. He's right, in a way, following his interpretation of the Bible. Even so, you can't teach that 1=3 in a Math class. If people got all hung up about how 1=3 should be taught in a Math class, and how it should be taught as another theory or idea of how numbers work, and in the meantime you have to repeat a million times to not offend anyone that Arabic numbers is just one way of looking at the number system, kids lose valuable time learning anything. And they'll be pretty darned confused. If in science class evolution is taught as a theory with certain evidence in its favor, and that we're still searching for evidence to prove it, or, to come up with another, better theory, it shouldn't be a problem. It may even spur more kids to become curious and enter the field of science to help find answers to these questions. I find it pretty hilarious that the same crowd that decries a PC world is trying to instill its own version of PC virtue in the science classroom.

Yup, one of the best ever. "Mattingly, I told you to cut off those sideburns!" Ken Griffey's grotesquely swollen jaw... "It all started last year during a terrible thunderstorm, when I locked myself out of the house. Shelving myself with a large piece of sheet metal, I ran for cover under the tallest tree I could find!"

Travis and Jonas items

Let me put it this way: in terms of personnel, definitely the wrong move. In terms of budget, might have been the necessary move. -
I think JP gives us a good chance to win now.

2-2. Ratings mean squat. -

There was also this: Looks like TD made a couple right moves. PW might have been the wrong one... -
I was never much of a Travis hater, but it sounds like he's hitting the familiar obstacles. I'm sure some will delight in hearing of his setbacks...

How about a tackle who's now delivering pizzas?

That was pretty great when Doug tried to draw the penalty by making like a Colt walked into him on purpose. A class act, always, that guy. This was nice to see.

They do think that we deserve to have our buildings bombed because we are too kind to gays, though.

End to major operations in Iraq

Those gorillas in Planet of the Apes could really fight. But they couldn't stop Charlton Heston with a gun. -
Nice self-reflection there.

I know at least you know better

Anyone taking the Bills on that line is out of their freaking mind. -

Yeah, because, like, I say that stuff all the time. "Just telling it like it is." Rock-solid argument there. How about, "just telling it like I want it to sound to so as to marginalize the other side by placing them in a fictional situation that fits my picture of them and suits my agenda nicely, rather than fostering any sort of interesting or meaningful political discourse, meanwhile guffaws abound from the echo chamber." Why don't you just get back to your finger pointing and pretending your side's not a part of the problem? I know you will...

For people who hate Ashlee Simpson
RuntheDamnBall replied to SilverNRed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People who hate Ashlee Simpson have too much damned time on their hands. -
Oh, that's just splendid, a France joke. Lord knows the world has been longing for one of those. You've finally hit it, my friend. Comedic gold...

Or, how to get to "DEMS BAD" in three easy steps... But it's OK when it suits your agenda...
