  1. Let's be plain about this and say that not having Eric Moulds on the field, even if he's not JP's #1 target, hurt. He takes guys away from Evans and that would have made, IMO, a HUGE difference. He might have been that guy that made JP just a little more comfortable in the new situation. The attempt to install discipline backfired and made our offense more undisciplined. BTW, Chicago's young (winning) QB faltered in the bad weather against a good team the other day, too. Got to give these guys a chance.
  2. There are no sure things in the NFL.
  3. I trust Willis' ability to turn the corner behind Peters or Gandy more than I trust those guys "forming the pile" in the middle. Toss sweeps, whatever it takes. He can certainly gain more on his own to the outside than the .375 yards he got per carry up the middle. And we're on the same page here. The only holes Teague and Anderson are opening up are clear lanes for defenders.
  4. I see stats for him in 90 and 93. Was he not on the roster 91-92 or did he just never see the field and thus no stats? Usually they'll throw in zeroes if a player was on the roster...
  5. Our run game has been atrocious because our pass blocking is dire, and we have a young QB who is still on the learning curve as far as making his reads. And again, when is the last time you saw the Bills attempt a run to the outside? JP has little time to make decisions, and until he can either do the miraculous and beat the rush every time, or they roll him out more frequently to take advantage of his accuracy on the run, DCs will stack 8-9 in the box and McGahee will go nowhere -- especially if MM keeps sending him down the middle, the site of the line's biggest liabilities.
  6. Say what you want about this guy, he watched his team win -- a LOT. More than you can say for old Teflon Tom! That has to count for something. He rarely wasted valuable time strapping on his helmet and commanding the offense -- instead he consistently soaked in pure football greatness from the best seat in the house. And he's a former Buffalo Bill! Mr. Wilson, mark my words, I'm not renewing my season tickets unless you lock this guy up immediately.
  7. I can count on one hand the number of times we've even tried to run off tackle to the right in the past 3 games (and not gotten a penalty). Peters is generally handling his guys, it's the middle of the line that's collapsing like a house of cards.
  8. I think the leash was pretty short with Darcy this year and he was wise to not go make a lot of (possibly damaging) moves. What's lucky for us is that Tim Connolly seems to have found his zone and even guys who were struggling early on this year (Mike Grier) are now rising to the occasion. And all this is with some of our finest players on the bench. What a great surprise. Probably the biggest surprise has been Ruff's ability to handle this young team and adjust to the new rules. If he can keep them playing like this all year, he should be mentioned in Coach of the Year discussions.
  9. So who do you like as another DT? What we'd need in the 3-4 is another Pat Williams. Tim Anderson, Bannan, Sape, also Edwards -- one or two (three?) of those guys is then gone, and probably none of them are 3-4 tackles (maybe Bannan is FA after this year anyway?). I agree our personnel at 'backer is better hinging on a healthy Takeo, and LBs are cheaper to come by anyway than DTs. But going to 3-4 really does mean we have to sign/draft a can't miss two-gap DT, and a very good backup, and then add another LB or two, in addition to eating Adams' cap hit. We might be better served by just getting that two-gap tackle anyway and seeing if it helps Adams excel again, possibly transitioning to 3-4 or including it in our packages for the following year.
  10. Depends: Marcus Price, backup OT: good bargain basement signing. Bennie Anderson, starting OG/turnstile: very, very BAD bargain basement signing.
  11. What about playing CBs 10 yards off a receiver? What about abandoning the rush when it's been working all game? How many times have you watched and seen a receiver wide freaking open against this defense? Maybe it's personnel, but I'm more tempted to believe that Jerry benefited from the personnel last year than to believe in his genius. Losing Spikes and especially Pat Williams hurt. But NE seems to lose guys all the time and can still contain with a system that works...
  12. I like the 3-4 but it still means a new DT. Sam will NOT be happy as a NT.
  13. When they get to the playoffs, the rest of the league will start respecting them. I expect it to happen this year. These guys have heart. The city of Buffalo should be flocking to HSBC Arena -- the current Sabres are exactly the team this city is pining for.
  14. His "break-but-don't...oh-sh---it-already-broke...Aww-crap" defense. And as someone just mentioned, NEVER an adjustment. Hard-headed, stick-to-the-plan-that-isn't-working defense.
  15. You're confusing us with the Packers. Pretty awesome to see their fans there last night just having fun and supporting their team. Then again, they have suffered a lot of injuries this year and when you have even one (much less 3) Lombardi trophies, and regular playoff appearances in the not-too-distant rearview, and Brett Favre, much is forgiven.
  16. Talented -- BUT, I don't think this team can afford to hire anyone without prior head coaching experience, and some success at it. Really, I'd like to see Fassell here. He had a pretty good track record in one of the toughest towns to play in, and helped Kerry Collins focus and get to a Super Bowl. His defenses weren't bad, either (nice to have Strahan, I'll admit).
  17. He's a HoFer with hardware and that counts for A LOT. But what are his coaching credentials? Is he doing a good job in SF? Could he be counted on to draw up and coach complex schemes?
  18. No question if this team was the Red Wings, Flyers or Pens they'd be all over the news. I'm actually comfortable with them flying under the radar and, come playoffs, looking dangerous for the second season.
  19. I think it'd be great to pick up Rohan Davey. Honest.
  20. They can have him back for a 3rd rounder.
  21. Are you actually trying to twist the knife or is that a skill that comes naturally?
  22. This coach is killing himself by drafting a guy who can make throws on the run and a RB who can break runs from the outside and not playing to their strengths. The middle of the line keeps collapsing and Mularkey won't hesitate to keep running it up the gut and setting JP up in the "pocket" to get killed. Meanwhile, when he rolls out he sees the field a lot better and has a leg up on the pass rush. Mularkey is turning Losman into a coach killer by not turning him loose. This offense is far too conservative for any of its key players to succeed, especially with a garbage middle of the line. We probably need two new guards and to find out if Duke Preston is our center. And that's saying that Mike Gandy is not one of the bigger problems on this line, which is pathetic considering it's probably the one place we all though would be a problem this year. And that's a lot of line upgrading to do.
  23. Anyone know if Miller is out of available trips to Rochester and/or if he could go there for a short regab assignment? That might be the best way to go, just get him working again before really deciding it's OK to deal Marty...
