I think this bears watching...
RuntheDamnBall replied to Ghost of BiB's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Bush was inaugurated in January 2001. There were numerous alerts under both administrations that should have tipped them off. Both failed. -
I think MM should be retained.

I really don't know, Nick. I don't think you can make all the decisions he's made on the field, making the same dumb mistakes, hang Eric Moulds out to dry in the media, play musical QBs, and not expect to lose your job. Maybe if two new coordinators were in there, things would be better. But right now he is calling the shots and failing, big time. And I think he might be losing this team, despite all comments to the contrary. A real coach is going to make Willis McGahee get with the program, not because he makes him feel bad in the media or in the locker room, but because he gives him something to believe in. I'm not sure Mularkey gives this team anything to believe in, or that he has a clear strategy that he HIMSELF believes in. That's critical. -
Injuries. Long season. Miller gets hurt again or doesn't return to form quickly, we're stuck with Noronen, who does not look good these days. Too bad he can't work himself back into game shape in Rochester.

It would be a lot more fun and a lot less money to just build your own of something like that. And having it be "your" instrument you'd be able to build it to suit your spec. I was thinking you were talking about a "key-tar," as seen in so many Prince videos.

Licensing fees. I am all for Johnny Coli's idea. -
It is from Fox, the same media conglomo who airs a guy who thinks that Iraq might have been behind the Okla. City bombing. Not to make it PPP but, jesus. My point is, FOX will say anything to turn heads. Like most media outlets, but they push the envelope and set the trends.

How to determine if JP is qb of future?
RuntheDamnBall replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
YES! And it's my greatest fear for the Bills that they will experience the same ups and downs that AZ had with Plummer and let Losman go to a winner: This kid needs consistency and a place that really wants him to grow, on his own pace. We keep drilling it over and over and over again, but the coach, whether it's Mularkey or Captain Lou or Vanna White, needs to put him in a position to succeed. That means good protection. It means calling runs on first and goal from the one. It means rolling him out if that's a strength. It means calling a QB draw if he can take it to the house with his legs. It means not juggling around the line, moving a career tackle to LG and hoping it works. Some guys like Simon have made valid arguments in MM's defense but I think it's being disproven with every game that Mularkey knows how to manage a game and a young QB. -
More coaching candidates...

I like Herm -- as a person and as a media personality, he's great. The Buffalo News would totally fawn over him. But if you're looking for offensive game-planning and good decisions (our two biggest problems right now), he's not the guy. -
Marv would have to be able to put into place a lot of good talent evaluators. Better than we have right now. He could definitely have the same kind of role that a Bill Walsh had in SF and help steer this team in the right direction. But I'm not sure he would be the best person to right the ship. As an advisor with a lot of input, I'm all for it.

I'll put action on it: we won't be right where we are. We'll be in LA due to half-empty stadiums and a continued playoff drought. -
Vcoach alert - JP not playing anymore
RuntheDamnBall replied to VABills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't believe that. I believe an open challenge will make him better -- and would have made him better this season. A severe failure on management's part. Having him outplay Bledsoe for the job would have been a real perception-changer in the minds of the offensive players on this team. The team chose to avoid a more real QB controversy so we have Holcomb as the capable guy who won't really steal Losman's job instead. It didn't work that way. Look at it this way, though: Bledsoe had Tucker and a generally healthy Jennings on his left side, and a healthy Williams on his right. This year's cast has not been that consistent or healthy, or good, to say the least. The revolving door at LG speaks to that. Teague has been generally worse this year. Drew would have fared far worse with this line, and I do place a bulk of the blame there, while acknowledging Losman's propensity for rookie mistakes. -

You might have missed Haslett accusing Kent Hull of steroid use during your time away. Dawgging a certified Wall of Famer and all-time Bills great probably grounded any chance of Haslett ever, ever getting a job here. -

WTF is your problem? Earlier this year Roethlisberger was hurt -- healthy enough to be a reserve and not deactivated, but not enough to warrant risking a really bad injury, so the team rested him. And Pittsburgh was a winning team with a shot at the playoffs. This has nothing to do with quitting and everything to do with playing it smart. I don't like it -- I'd rather see Losman start, but I REALLY don't want to see him get killed behind these jokers attempting to block for him. But I get it. When Losman gets hurt, he's a kitty for not coming back in. When Holcomb gets hurt, it's valid that he stay out. -
If this really happens it is going to SUCK. Talk about handcuffed. MTA has socked it to the customer left and right, save for this ridiculous one-month discount frenzy that is confusing as all get-out, and really more worthwhile for tourists who were coming to NYC anyway! Like cheaper holiday Metrocards are going to somehow lure MORE tourists here... And now everyone is going to be screwed. I agree MTA should do something with the surplus -- and give it back to the customers who gave it to them in the first place. This is the giant problem with a private corporation that is supposed to be publicly accountable. It's the worst of both worlds.

NAACP v. Donavan McNabb

Boy, don't tell them that. Reason is no match for the demands of an idiotic fan. A HoFer like Favre wouldn't have lasted the 3 seasons he needed to become magical here. He'd have been run out of town for being erratic, too much of a gunslinger, blah blah blah. Come to think of it, he didn't last that long in ATL. And they turned out alright, right? Right? People here are so used to mediocrity that they would just assume throw the baby out with the bathwater every time to get back to super-mediocre rather than let a player develop and try and see if we have something special with him. -
In another article right after the injury when they didn't know if TKO was going to miss the whole season or not, Troy Vincent said, "to lose him, he's the pulse." When your senior FS, one of your leaders is saying that, it speaks volumes as to how much he means to the defense and the team at large.

So do you wipe out the disease with a single antibiotic ie. bombing it to hell, and eventually make it stronger or resistant? Or do you try to approach it holistically ie. with military force when necessary, diplomacy and multi-lateral action as much as possible? -
I like it. Also, we have more veteran leaders on the D to help along strong D-line talent. The O-line is more critical that we get some experience.

Even if the difference ends up being the little bit extra that it costs to pick up a Marcus Price / Ross Tucker-type guy who can help capably when the starter is inevitably injured, instead of a Greg Jerman, we will have lost on this kind of deal. We've seen that this year. JP Losman is not the Bills' biggest problem, and he could be a big asset. No need to mess things up further with more indecision about the leadership of this team, especially at the expense of much greater needs. We need to spend every spare penny on line upgrades and thinking about the future of other older positions on this team. Replacing the QB is so knee-jerk it's not even funny. Imagine if the Giants had done the same this year... -

His habits like waiting longer than 0.375 seconds to pass? Or being able to scramble, instead of sitting there and getting his head knocked in like some of our more statuesque QB friends? Please. Give this kid a line and we'll see something. Now Jim Kelly, that guy got injured a couple times... -

There are no can't-misses in the NFL. None. If I had to, had to pick one I'd say Ladainian Tomlinson but even he has really emerged with a healthy line, a great TE and a capable QB. If you bring in a new QB and pay him big, that's 3 QBs on the roster making over a mil a year. And any one of the three would get killed behind this line, because there's no way you can afford to pay all three and STILL address all the concerns on this team.
