Iran Papers Are for an Atomic Bomb
RuntheDamnBall replied to erynthered's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It was as much, if not more, brought on by the collective efforts in many of the satellite nations who were not happy with life under the Soviet regime. I'm more than a little disappointed to see Reagan touted as the main reason for the crumbling Soviet hold on Eastern Europe, when there were so many movements that were instrumental in helping bring this about. Problem is, Iran's aware of that and has been pretty handily keeping its opposition down. -
OK- Realistically who could the Bills Bring IN
RuntheDamnBall replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If they really, really feel they need to look in another direction, I would give Joey Harrington a long look when the Lions let him go. This is assuming Martz (as their potential new OC) doesn't decide Harrington is his next project. I say that as a JP fan, but I feel Harrington didn't get a fair shake in Detroit. At the same time, this is unlikely due to the fact that Jauron has probably already seen enough of Harrington and the players' reaction to him. -
That kind of sounds like the Bills already. Brady can pass to the RBs all day against us. Couldn't get worse, could it?

Iran Papers Are for an Atomic Bomb

No problem. Seriously, what are our options here? Our military is overextended as it is. Since there would seem to be real mounting evidence here is there more of an opportunity for a multilateral action? I am not super-familiar with the geopolitical implications of any sort of engagement with Iran, other than the obvious inflammation of the Muslim world. -

Should the Bills Spend Significant Cap $ on QB
RuntheDamnBall replied to Fake-Fat Sunny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Perhaps they would have gotten to the divisional round of the playoffs like they did in '02 with Maddox at the helm. Perhaps they might even have done as well as they did with Kordell Stewart (whom you like to disparage around here also), with whom they made it to the AFC Championship game. Big Ben is good. But you're kidding yourself if you think this wasn't a quality team before his arrival. And in the meantime, they may not even have made it to the AFC championship this year if Indy had capitalized. Shows how things can hinge on moments. The Steelers are good, but as any team in this league must, they capitalize on good fortune as well. -
If the Bills were sold, and the new owner

You mean we didn't give Mike Williams a warm enough welcome and that's why he's sucked? I'm starting to piece this together now. -
President Bush about to speak
RuntheDamnBall replied to stevestojan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
So now we should let the Islamic extremists dictate who we elect? Priceless. Is the problem that she's a woman? I hadn't thought that was it. I thought it was who she is and what she stands for. But if it is her gender that's the problem -- revealing. -
To be fair to BlueFire, VY would not be the worst first-round pick in the world (that would have to be Erik Flowers). But just judging by our needs, it makes little to no sense to pick him -- unless we could find a real taker for Losman and the price was right. But there are obvious worries about his translation to the NFL game. He is a hell of an athlete, and I believe he will be a difference maker, but we have to play the cards we have and fixate on our needs.

LOL! He's a bit of a "Loner," though. Not sure about his leadership in the locker room. Dude's got a "Heart of Gold," though. I could agree with you all day on Neil Young, Bill.

anybody talk about the episode of "24" today?
RuntheDamnBall replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At the risk of sounding crass, it's more like terror-porn/striptease. One of the interesting things they're leaving hanging out there. They would seem to have run out of cards to play to give Jack another fake death, but who knows. -

A very strange hypothetical, but yes, I would have a problem with it. And it has nothing to do with politics, and everything to do with the fact that it would create an even less welcoming environment for attracting black players to Buffalo. -

As Jack in Syracuse mentioned, I've got a bad feeling she's not going to make it through the full season. Several possibilities. My guess would be they wiretapped David Palmer. He was at a point of access with the Oval Office. Other options are that somehow the kid who got himself into Chloe's bed found out. We still don't know about Tony... Honestly, I hope not. It would certainly lend a little believability if they'd just let a subplot die quietly for once. I don't think they will, though. I think they're definitely warming up. Last night was great. I still hate hate HATE this President. He bends with the wind. I would say that nobody who appears this phony, unprincipled, and governed solely by image and appearances could get elected, but 1) he wasn't elected, and 2) sadly, I would be wrong anyway. -
Poison Justice Stevens, Coulter jokes

She is pretty dreadful. Of course, she is also the one who has been considered the best counterpart to Rush, so that pretty much lays it all out on the table. -
I'm calling bull sh--. How about Lee Evans? His resurgence coincided completely with Losman's reintroduction to the offense in KC. I'm sure he's interested in giving Losman a chance. But of course, the Arm has his ear hardwired to the Bills locker room, so he knows all.
-
Nor can he expect to have by playing in parts of nine games, with the coach constantly looking over his shoulder and not letting him learn and finish games. Not with a coach who gave it all to him, only to take it away. Losman did not have one chance to earn the job from Mularkey. It was all-or-nothing. Also, the point was that Favre had done nothing in his first two years, champ. Ryan Leaf was actively destructive to his team and his locker room. Losman has acted in no way to earn comparisons to Ryan Leaf. But keep on with your mystical "Holcomb-is-the-future" obsession...

QB coach: who to hire?
RuntheDamnBall replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think he's seriously a candidate, nor does he want to be. And can you defend the choice? He didn't even really tutor any successful successors. -
McNally Staying=Committment to O-Line
RuntheDamnBall replied to Corp000085's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bad play-calling, and a trifecta of awfulness at LG-C-RG. Look at all those runs up the middle. Peters was handling his man. The inside was collapsing like a house of cards on every down. -
Anyone know who the candidates are (or should be) for what must be considered a vitally important position for the Bills? Who's available out there? I know AVP would love the job, but what about someone who's already had some success? Or, scratching all of this, is Fairchild going to be able to devote enough time to JP on his own?

NEWS FLASH! Sequel Set For Brokeback Mountain
RuntheDamnBall replied to ExiledInIllinois's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I saw the movie and it didn't turn me gay. It's not that graphic, and there are actually more shots of bare female breasts in the movie than there is in-your-face male nudity. It is a love story, or more of a story about a relationship involving people who can't articulate love because it's not a language for them. It also is pretty heartbreaking to watch both men try to live lies and damage their families in the process, which is all too true-to-life. Don't see it if you don't want to, but I'll warrant that most people discussing this movie are pretty misinformed. As a film it's incredibly well-made, and the open scenery of the west and cinematography have as much a role to play in it as the leading men. -
Offensive Line equals winner
RuntheDamnBall replied to Tar Heel Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure, the switch went on. But it would have been so much less likely if he had been getting pulled for Doug Flutie every four games and sitting the next four. I think most football personnel would say it takes around 3 years for a QB to really get his head into the NFL game and find his comfort zone. My question is are we going to give JP that much time? For a QB like Leaf who was an obvious cancer, it's easier to see early on that he's not the answer. I see no such problems inherent in JP's character -- the real problems for the team were with his rise to the position, dictated from without (not by him). I hate hammering this one into the ground, but he needs to fight for the job and win it. -

Or, you just need to let him develop and find comfort with his targets and with the position in general. See: Matt Hasselbeck, Drew Brees. Roethlisberger and Brady are the exceptions, not the rule.
