UConn James' boys to take it all, over the Zags. WVU, Gonzaga, UConn and 'Nova. #6, #3, and two #1s. Not completely unreasonable.

NFL Draft- Opinions change so fast
RuntheDamnBall replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If drated here, Leinart will look like the whiny b*tch that Brady becomes any time he gets sacked, on a regular basis. Don't matter who's back there if the center is stepping on his ankles. -
The one thing we can't do is hold a gun to somebody's head and make them sign here. I'd like to think Marv and co. are going to do everything within reason to sign good players for this team. But if GB turns out to have offered Pickett a desperation contract (like the one the Vikes plopped down for Hutch) there's not a whole lot you can do. When you throw down that kind of cash you inevitably hurt yourself somewhere else. I'd rather see justifiable bargain moves, getting a lot of guys who will fit what they're trying to do here. I really wouldn't mind, given the way things look right now, trading down, taking Bunckley and netting another 1st day pick.

I've jumped on the Vince Manuwai train. Check out another thread I posted his info in.
-
I'd say one of those has to fall to us. If not, somebody that another team is going to really want will. Sure, I'd be happier if we were holding a 5 or even a 7 card, but we're not in a bad position draft-wise. And I'd probably take Ngata if he's there. I'm betting Kollar could make something of him.

damn, missed that one. oof.

How's about big Ted for a little while?
-
Classic case of jerking your QB around, not protecting him, and then expecting him to succeed. Sounds familiar. Josh McCown? Grass is always greener.
-
Yet he hadn't broken his leg and he probably took a good share of practice reps all season. Make no mistake, Palmer definitely got more experience in his first year than did Losman.
-
If you watched that whole game, you'd probably notice the rest of the team didn't show up on the field either. That was just more meathead magic. "So you haven't taken any practice reps and you are just coming off of a broken leg... Meanwhile, the defending champs are devouring us. Get in there, kid!" F---ing Mularkey.
-
I was thinking the same thing. It's like whack-a-mole. One goes down, another comes up. It should be interesting to see Ol' Marv try to trade for an unrestricted free agent, though.
-
Please don't post this as a rumor, unless it's stated "I'm starting this rumor." It's completely unfounded.
-
hey, I got snarky too. Group hug. Now let's sign some D-linemen that can rip Tom Brady to pieces.
-
I hope you know I was joking.
-
No, everyone else is better than Losman. He sucks. Andre Ware is a better NFL QB. Roscoe Parrish is a better NFL QB. Sorry, gotta go inhale from the exhaust pipe.
-
Hey, I'd love to see it happen, too. And it might. I'm just stating that the fact we haven't signed every other team's franchise player 5 days into free agency does not concern me. It's the impatient "win now" mentality that caused the total backfire last year and sent the team spiralling instead of developing towards something better, sooner.

"When I catapult myself into the Niagara, it'd better be off a shiny twin-span. No second-class suicide for me!" That's the spirit.

Why don't you go watch figure skating or something? It suits the need for drama. I sure hope the Bills play hard and display effort, and win a few exciting games this year. Maybe beat Miami and steal one from NE. I hope I get to see JP grow and become the QB we want him to be. If none of these things happen, I may be disappointed, for a week at a time, even, but it won't ruin my life. People need some perspective.

Bridge-jumping season's started early this year, I see.

Has Josh Reed Met With any Other Teams?
RuntheDamnBall replied to 2003Contenders's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bengals game showed me that when all the Bills' receivers come to play on the same day, their corps could be pretty awesome. Unfortunately that has been the issue for some time. When the top two were blanketed a wide-open Reed would have one slip through his hands. Parrish can be an exciting option and I'd like to see what JP could do with him and Evans over the course of a year. At the same time there's the feeling that at any moment the guy is going to be busted into bone shards on an open-field tackle. I'm not averse to giving Reed another chance -- at the right price, and especially if Moulds isn't back. We'll need somebody and we can't afford to throw more draft picks at the problem. -
I say overpay for Pickett
RuntheDamnBall replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
See Dwight Freeney, Levi Jones for contradiction to your statement. Both reaches, both filled need areas for their teams, both overachievers who fit their schemes. I'm far more concerned that the Bills get a player that fits what they're trying to do here than someone who simply fills a need or is a so-called star in the making. Unless that player is going to totally define what you do, you look to what player will fill your needs and fit your system. IMO you don't really get a shot at the pure difference makers (the guys who would be awesome no matter what team they're on) unless you're in the top 3. -
In terms of O-line FAs, they're drying up. I just posted something about the Jags' Vince Manuwai, who would probably come at the cost of a 3rd round pick, as well as the financial burden. At the same time, we're not likely going to net an immediate OG starter in the third round, so it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to use the pick in that fashion. Wells? Could be OK. The best and worst thing I've heard about him was that before injury, he was the best O-lineman on the Cardinals. Best = good. Cardinals = not so much. Fabini's out there, Jeff Mitchell, also, I believe. The guys you're going to find right now are 2nd, 3rd tier, gambles like Bennie Anderson on the younger side and then some veterans who have questionable longevity. That was one reason people we're getting a little excited about Mawae as he's a voice of experience at an important position, but he's also on the downside and could have yielded to Preston in a couple years. Also, Griese is going to be too expensive. McCown could probably be had for the same amount of money, is younger, and has more upside. I still say we get our #3 in the 4th or 5th round this year. That or trade for Cleo Lemon

I know RFAs don't come cheap, but this guy sounds like he'd be worth a look. Guess it all depends on the tender -- if it's a first rounder, that's a little tough to swallow. Vince Manuwai | OG Complete player profile Full Name: Vincent Manuwai Born: July 12, 1980 Honolulu, HI Height: 6-2 Weight: 312 lbs. Age: 25 Pos: OG Experience: 3 years College: Hawaii Drafted: Year:2003 Round:3 Pick:8, Jaguars Insider Analysis Grade 77 Expert's Take Manuwai is a short, compact offensive lineman. He has good bulk and very good strength. He has short arms, but he comes off the ball and delivers a good initial punch. He plays with a bit of a mean streak and is very effective in the trapping game. He delivers an explosive blow when he pulls to lead a play. He has very good foot quickness for his body type and takes a good, quick first step to get himself into good position. He shows he can be effective in getting to the second level and blocking a moving target. He plays with excellent leverage and shows the ability to get movement on the line of scrimmage in one-on-one situations. He anchors very well versus the powerful bull rush and does a great job of picking up stunts and twists in the middle. He can mirror and slide with a defender, and it is difficult to get him out of his cylinder. His physical limitations center around his short arms and his lack of ideal height. He has good movement, but he works from a narrow base at times and can look awkward in trying to maintain blocks on a moving target. He does a poor job of locking on with his hands and does not work to finish his blocks. He has trouble changing direction in space. He is young, and he appears to have good durability and should continue to improve his overall technique. He has a chance to develop into one of the top offensive guards in the league.

Jags give Mike Williams $2 million SB
RuntheDamnBall replied to Lurker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're probably right, GG, but the difference is probably a million or so a year and the guy just had worn out his welcome in Buffalo. He sensed that. The guy probably already has more than he ever dreamed of from his rookie contract, and we don't know Mike to be a high-desire guy in any respect. Perhaps he just wanted to get to the southern sun to see what happens. -

C'mon, we were scheduled to pay the guy 7 mill this season!! They're probably giving him half that this season and less the next. If we could have had him at that salary, we should have kept him. Problem was that Mike needed the change of scenery. I wouldn't be surprised to see him succeed down there, though I also wouldn't be surprised to see him enjoying time on the bench with a burrito. Point is, physical gifts and talent always get a second chance. Even Tony Mandarich got a second chance. We'll see if Donahoe is right on this one and Mike ends up being what he should have been all along.
