  1. The alternate opinions this author cites come from 1) a scientist (Lindzen) who has been underwritten by OPEC and the oil industry and 2) a scientist (Christy) whose figures have since been found to have significant errors. Projections are projections, they're not fact. People who say "maybe we are, maybe we aren't affecting the environment" serve no purpose but to give an "attaboy" to those who profit from unsustainable methods. Why does a climatologist like Lindzen cite economic concerns as a reason not to advance on global warming science? It's pretty clear. The projections shouldn't be ignored in favor of this so-called argument, and turning it into an argument, instead of an opportunity to do move forward and do good is an absolute waste of time.
  2. Sorry, Hitler's a tough thing for me to 'get a grip' over. Whatever.
  3. While a horrible human being, Zarqawi is not by a longshot in the same league as Hitler. Try Pol Pot, Stalin, and many, many others first. Looking at Africa might be a good start.
  4. I live in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Tens of thousands of Polish people (from Poland, not several generations down like WNY ). It's going to be bananas around here tomorrow.
  5. I love this bit of revisionist history that's floating around these days. Kelly skipped out playing for the Bills for two seasons and got to learn in a league of pros that wasn't quite the NFL. Who knows what would have happened had he been with the struggling 2-14 Bills of 84-85? Until the USFL folded, it was not a certainty that we were going to have our franchise quarterback while we watched him in another league in Houston. I love what JK did in his Bills career, but people want to drop kick Losman, a guy who WANTS TO BE HERE, off the roof for missing most of his first season to injury and having a subpar year getting jerked around by a lousy coach. In the meantime, everybody gives Jimbo a flyer for bailing on Buffalo.
  6. I was going more old school. I already used 'fabulous' yesterday. But the use of caps for flamboyant emphasis does not go unnoticed.
  7. They sure are a threat, but they drive splendid cars.
  8. Price actually has a pretty good record of success when someone else is drawing most of the coverage.
  9. I'm pretty shocked, Bill. Especially knowing that you're a parent. That's all I can say.
  10. You're talking about upending a whole system that includes having both parents work (probably more detrimental but economically necessary in a lot of situations), many more distractions and less responsibility for kids, etc. It's not all rooted in marriage and propping up one leg won't get the other three off of the ground.
  11. He may or may not be right, but the most important fact to remember is that he is definitely a tool.
  12. You're trying to change meaning and that's a slow process and it just isn't going to happen. You're acting like marriages pre-1960s were all rosy and happy. Fact is, they weren't. Women with abusive husbands had no recourse or exit strategy. Men likely cheated more within their marriages. It's better to let it dissolve than for it to become a ruse.
  13. I'm not crazy about that idea. I just don't think you can penalize everyone just because of a lot of stupid people. My parents had me when they were 19 (weren't planning on it happening, either) and working low-paying jobs in Western New York. They cared about each other and about me and my brother, and worked really hard to better themselves, raised kids who got straight-As, coached Little League, ran Scouts, ended up buying and renovating rental properties and are out on the other side now and enjoying life, and still very happy together. Now the circumstances surrounding their marriage and having children were not optimal, and perhaps their success defies the statistics, but why should a situation like that be considered worse than that of someone who can financially support kids but has no time for them (something I often see)? You can't judge that, and to suggest it would be possible would result in fascism.
  14. Nice avatar, Pete. "Doo, doo, doo, lookin' out my back door."
  15. You don't get it, do you? The only thing we're casting Mr. Kennedy as a victim of here is poor reporting. Everything else is fair game. Of course, I'm forgetting that the Republicans are the only 'victims' of the media here.
  16. 4 out of 5 black African American Kennedys don't drink, but like to drive.
  17. And not even that. Holcomb's Arm was citing yards per attempt, which obviously works out better for someone who has more attempts and more completions. Yards per completion for Losman are actually better (11.9) than Holcomb's (9.7).
  18. Between the Post's 3rd-grade Photoshop work and Lupica, it's a tossup. To me, it's just a dumb thing all-around and there's no reason for him to bring race into his stupidity. Probably would have made as much if not more sense to bring into it the fact that he's stinking rich. What the hell, if he's going to get loaded, why not have a driver? He can obviously afford it. Edit: Please note I am inserting the class argument as another stupid one that could be made, not a viable substitute.
  19. Mick, JP did improve his accuracy second time around (look at the games 9-16 splits) and was only pulled when he failed against NE (who wouldn't?). By comparison, KH enjoyed a run starting at home against weaker opponents. He also didn't wow anybody in that last game. Yes, same line for the most part. Not same play calls. I think you're right, to an extent. JP needs to be more accurate this year. But I'll settle for the 55% he was doing second half, if he can make big plays, over Holcomb's 67% with few big plays. And I refuse to believe JP's inaccuracy was a result of anything other than being put in a bad situation. KH can make the most of a bad situation better than JP, by virtue of his experience, but we all know we want to strive for good situations. KH puts a cap on those for obvious reasons. If they are even close in camp, close enough that the decision wouldn't irk all the reasonable vets, it's JP.
  20. PS -- the guy is a dope and it's amazing that the media can't just let him be a dope on his own but actually feels it needs to provide assistance in the matter.
  21. Coli Says: Der, der-der der der. You forget, Johnny, MEDIA BAD unless it's doing its job trashing and misquoting liberals. Wacka is just taking a page from the Daily Snooze's book and filling in the blanks in your quote. At least the NYDN is more respectable than the Post -- by about 25¢.
  22. True, that. The other side of that logic is, if we're following a Belicheck model (and I think we are with 4-5 No. 2a-b caliber receivers), it could work out really well for us. Tom Brady has never had a bona fide No. 1 receiver, yet a hungry cast of all-No. 2-3s seems to find a way to get receptions. I'm not saying any QB on our roster is close to Brady, but I do think we have a receiver corps that is deep, if not superb, and that helps out your QB. I have to say, I like the Peerless signing. The guy's got something to prove and a number of competitors to rise above. He's got the chance to do it with the team that gave him his first chance, and his best production. He's got a receiver on the up in Evans to work with. And, if he isn't there there's a hungry Andre Davis and a healthy halfling with some skills to push him.
