  1. I thought he held his own last week. Pasquarelli says Carolina's replacement for him isn't looking great so far (which is to be expected, line chemistry takes time). But it's surprising that a Super Bowl contender like Carolina is already looking to move Mathis out of the lineup when he was anointed the new starter right away and they were quick to let a capable Reyes go. Perhaps the Bills were smarter this time, no?
  2. Don't throw the "Christianity is based solely on the word of Jesus" crap out there, because if that were the case, evangelists wouldn't be running around condemning homosexuals (please find for me where Jesus said anything about them), and they'd find it a hell of a lot harder to rationalize a lot of their behavior. The fact is that the big three monotheistic religions draw a lot from the same well. There have been societal advancements in the west that have changed our outlook more than most realize. But if you want to follow the Bible word-for-word, you are going to be living a life that is no less backwards to our understanding than that which you consider the Muslim world to live. That's the truth. All religions have a history of violence, because there has always been violence. It's up to each one of us to determine whose (if any) teachings within one can lean on. The predicament we find ourselves in now is not due to there being any more violence than there has ever been, but rather the greater capabilities of destruction via violence coupled with technology. Quit it with the "religion of peace" crap. If you follow any religion, look in the mirror.
  3. with "HULKAMANIA" detailed on the sides?
  4. Hey, did you know that at one point, the Christian God also said it's OK for His people to kill enemies and take their children for love slaves? Numbers 31.15-18 -- But let's pretend no other religion has any violent texts or tendencies. Islam bad!
  5. Ellison is too green to have proven anything yet, much less that he is a backup. There have been low-round success stories, remember.
  6. Just another couple thoughts... Parents: hug your kids. And anyone who's having trouble with their marriage: no situation is so bad that this or anything similarly tragic is the solution. Get help!
  7. I believe any extensions done before November 15 (? going on memory here) can count on this year's cap for the signing bonus, etc. They may or may not want to negotiate with anyone in mid-season and there may or may not be any player they want to even do this with. I'd sure love to see London stay another year or two. He certainly has the fire.
  8. That's terrible, tragic news. My thoughts are with his children, and family. This is a situation that's going to need a lot of healing and prayers.
  9. Emtman met some injuries, and Buckley had a pretty long and semi-productive career -- nothing special, he's no all-time great, but not a bust either. Howard also had some fine ST play (in a super bowl in particular IIRC), from time to time but never became a great NFL receiver. The rest? Yeesh. Stinkers.
  10. The "Day the Music Died" tour.
  11. Bills, 24-20. JP is going to get some deep balls against this secondary. He will also face a good deal of pressure from the front 7 of Miami, and it's probably going to be good for an interception that will set up a Culpepper score. I just have the feeling JP is going to finish the job this time, and you'll see him connect with Evans again. Hopefully not to the point that he is locking on Lee. Also, don't be surprised to see A-Train make some short-yardage plays in the clutch.
  12. This has to be one of my more sophisticated !@#$ups.
  13. Seahawks already pointed out, 8-8. They were no great shakes. We also beat the QB-less Browns, the 49ers, the vaunted Rams, and Arizona that year. We got humiliated at a mediocre Baltimore, and got served against New England twice. We didn't beat Jacksonville. We weren't good enough to put up more than ten points against them. Just as we weren't good enough to put up enough points to beat Pittsburgh's third string. That team was rightly blown up and Bledsoe was rightly given the heave-ho. We were paper tigers, just as Miami is this year. Both teams have Mularkey in common. I feel much better about the position the new staff is putting this team in.
  14. Questionable. I have an inkling he'll be out there unless they really think it'll be to his detriment. We need him to be a winner, and he wants to be a winner.
  15. The folly is in thinking that there's one answer, one solution. That is the kind of thinking that is killing us right now. Yes, standardization is nice, but being flexible is far more important. We should continue pursuing ways to make solar and wind more efficient, and we should probably proceed with nuclear technologies while researching for the best way possible to deal with the waste. And we should certainly look to make our use more efficient, instead of continuing to rely on a waste-based economy and looking for the best way to support that. Conserving, remember? Stop thinking means-end. Start thinking about what's going to make life possible for a long time here.
  16. That guy had moves like you wouldn't believe. Certainly one of the top 3 backs ever.
  17. Why would they target Aaron Schobel and not our light interior? McGahee hasn't excelled against the Bills? I think the last one might be a post-error but even so, these guys are in for it. Yes, Joe: DIE MIAMI!
  18. Had literature on the mind.
  19. The difference is we beat cream puffs at the end of 04. We are challenging the toast of the division at the start of '06. Good things are ahead.
  20. You're right. Sorry I mess these things up.
  21. Ok. 1) "Per say"? You are quarreling with people about language and messing this one up? 2) I can't listen to the Roots or Public Enemy and say there is no logic or meaning behind it -- both of these artists contain depths of each. And even Missy Elliott has some meaning -- that meaning might be "move your ass" but it's still a meaning. She has some pretty creative usages of language, even if they are ultimately just the dressing for a spare beat that's supposed to make you dance.
  22. Both. Meaning is something you determine as a listener. Genius? That's societally determined. It's the beautiful thing about the written word. For me, genius really lies in how many meanings can be gotten from a song and how a writer avoids common turns of verse to spin a narrative that's something his/her own.
  23. Mine is still for a game that aired on WIVB. Someone made one up that said: Card Board Sign
