Jonas Jennings has SF coach frustrated
RuntheDamnBall replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Likely the dumber decisions were to hire coaching staffs that alienated many talented players including Ruben. I do have to admit, though, I thought Ruben didn't have much left in the tank towards the end of his Bills tenure. It could have been what the team was doing, but it was clear to me that he needed to go in another direction. I wish it had been clearer to the Bills that they needed to do the same and operate differently. -
Thank God for the Sabres...

Haha. I'm just reminiscing on JSP's ripping of Miller last year. I truly believe this team is better than last year's and they have every shot to take the Cup they should have gotten last year, if not for injuries. For me, I feel fortunate to watch them and fortunate to have two teams that tie me back to the area. BTW don't you hate hockey? And I'm a Fredonian, never lived in Buffalo or even Erie County. -

To me, that's what talent is. It's the gifts you have, what you're born with. Skill is what is acquired when you hone that talent and work on it every day. This is a semantic argument. But I'll argue that every day, JP Losman is more talented than John Kitna. He will always be able to do things that John Kitna can never do. What separates Kitna, if anything, is the way he has used his limited talents to build his skill in the game. -
One Reason (Besides Sabres)
RuntheDamnBall replied to Buffalo Baumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Funny, our starting QB has improved by miles, has bought a house in DOWNTOWN Buffalo, not the 'burbs, our running back is working his ass off and taking a beating, and our young safeties are in on every play -- partly because they are being hung out to dry by most of the rest of the defense. I don't agree with the picture you've painted. The reason this team lacks identity is due to its players in the trenches. I think the Tripplett signing has not panned out thus far, McCargo's out, and consequently they can't stop the run or burst inside with much authority, Kyle Williams' effort notwithstanding. The O-line needs help, real help, in free agency. The best thing that could happen right now is to let Nate "oh, was that my man?" Clements go, get Youboty in there and learning this season to take over for him next, and address the lines in serious fashion next year -- both in FA and the draft. As far as it representing Buffalo, this team has a lot of players working hard and that's all you can ask. What it can't do is really exceed the talent that it has, and the lack thereof on the lines is showing. -

Just remember how you feel right now during the inevitable lull (that every team has), when Miller lets in a soft one from the point and the offense can't rescue him. It'll still be the same team. Don't give them the bum's rush at that point. I believe in this team and am so excited, I just don't want to see more of the manic reactions or predictions with the high highs and low lows. We could easily see a couple Bills wins and a Sabres skid and this board would be humming a different tune. For now, the Sabres are exciting and the Bills have work to do. -

Less talent?! If you think Kitna is as talented as Losman you really are more delusional than this board gives you credit for. If you think he's got worlds more experience than JP and has seen everything and knows what to expect and how to react, more than Losman, that's another story. -
Never did Coyles much. I was more of a BJs kinda dude (I worked there for a while). Their wings were/are awesome. I haven't made it back for an alumni weekend and think it'll probably be awhile before I do (unless I get invited back to speak for the recording program or something). Most of my alum friends are here in the city so I don't feel a real need to catch up.

I am still wondering what happened to all these runs to the outside and passes to the TEs that we were supposed to see. The former would certainly alleviate some pressure as Willis tends to get at least 5 yards every time he's not running between the tackles, or, as I like to call it, into the dead zone. Fowler has been better than Teague, especially in run blocking, but that's not saying a lot. I still think a LG and LT upgrade are necessary. I really wish McNally would be able to work some magic with just one of these late-round white guys. It seems like we just go through them like water with nothing to show for them. Perhaps Butler can take Gandy's job?

You guys both went there, right? I went to Wings and Things recently. The chicken finger sub at 2am hit the spot, but I have to say the crowd in there was pretty dreadful, all sorts of meatheads and trashiness (the summer crowd, which is worse). It is probably the least cool place I can think of to hang out at such a time. Not to mention they took a grand 30 minutes to make one sub. Makes one realize it's a good thing to leave home, and come back when you want to.

I propose some simple arithmetic: Matt Leinart + Mike Gandy = 9 sacks instead of 5. The Offensive Line. The Offensieve Line. The Offensive Line. Pack up your money, pick up your tent, you ain't going nowhere without an offensive line. -

"Thought" is not a verb I'd often put in the same sentence as "ESPN Radio." -

I think that JP hanging his RBs out to dry on the short passes has people reminiscing about Flutie's propensity to do the same. Also, that guy could complete a pass to the back of a right guard like nobody's business. Good times. [tard]He sure was better than "Roberta," and that's good enough for me.[/tard]

Whoah, that's hot material man. You should ring up your local comedy club and play to some crickets.

Memo to Bills Daily staff and my fellow fans
RuntheDamnBall replied to JPL7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, you're right. JP sucks. Like, if he had ever been covering Roy Williams during the game, he totally would have !@#$ed it up. Our secondary was ATROCIOUS today. ATROCIOUS. The young safeties were OK -- made their expecte mistakes but also came to play. Perry Fewell must have taken a nap during game-planning time. They almost never put two men on Williams, Nate played his usual 9 yards off the receiver, and Terrence just kept getting toasted. The CBs were consistently in no-man's land or busy getting burned. JP was bad. But he was also pretty much the only reason they were in it at the end. Also, Steve Fairchild: please call more runs to the outside. They do actually work. -
Hope that everyone gets their power back as soon as possible. The damage just looks devastating from the pictures. Is it true, 50% tree loss in some areas? That's going to change the landscape for a long time, if so. Really sad. Just because it doesn't get mentioned, for those of you in the area, linemen are working around the clock (my dad is one of them), 20 hour days until things are fixed. It's really hard and thankless work. If you see one, thank them. It means a lot more than you'll ever know.

Sadly, sales of that Zoroastrian Bible just never did take off. -
Clearly? Great? Both are up for debate, if you ask me.

It's fun, but it's made people who discuss the sport exponentially dumber by virtue of the fact that it makes them believe they are experts on the game, when they are experts in something more akin to Dungeons and Dragons. I play it, but I make no pretenses as to it aiding in my understanding of actual live football.

Yankees Cory Lidle owned plane that crashed
RuntheDamnBall replied to RVJ's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Apparently you don't understand. The point is he was a man first and a Yankee about 9th or 10th down the list (after father, husband, etc). You can separate the fact that he was traded to the Yankees and did his job for them for two months from the fact that he is dead, his kids have lost their father, his wife has lost a husband, and he didn't do anything egregiously bad aside from being too inexperienced for the situation he was in, if that. You should hope your friends speak so well of you when you pass. -

Horror of horrors, democracy means that people might occasionally pick more than one party to represent them (sort of). -

Please tell me you didn't just post this. 1) The guy was a goddamned free agent. If he was thinking of signing with the Red Sox, do you change your mind? 2) The guy was a human being. Have some compassion. 3) His team lost and was out of it just one week after yours. It's not like they are doing anything to be much of an object of hatred right now.
