I Fear That Right Around The Corner
RuntheDamnBall replied to Buffalo Baumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Five losses and the sky is falling. You guys are ridiculous. Have fun "routing" against your own team. I'm sure you might be able to score some seats at Foxboro from a friend. -
Liberals Attacking Marriage Again
RuntheDamnBall replied to catchescannonballs's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I love the idea of "homosexual adoption," as if any adoption has anything to do with sexual relationships. If the worry is that oversexed people will adopt, I've got news for you, there are a few among them filing for "heterosexual adoptions." You also speak as if all hetero families show "healthy interaction between a man and a woman." They don't, hence the 50% divorce rate. Regardless, there are examples of hetero relationships working out all around that I'm sure it won't be lost on a kid whose parents are gay. Studies have shown it's no more likely that an adopted child of gay parents will be gay, and certainly kids even in these situations have grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, other examples in which they'll see this healthy interaction they so desparately need. My point is, if you can't legislate against a single parent household happening (and you shouldn't be able to), how can you legislate against a two-parent household where the parents happen to be of the same sex? -
Bill, were you around as a Bills fan in 1986-87 (I wasn't sure if it was pre-your conversion from being a Jets fan)? Were fan feelings about the team at all similar to the way they are now? Did Kelly get the "pass" some feel we're giving JP? Obviously it doesn't appear that we have the talent on our hands that we had in 86 (e.g., no Bruce, no Kent Hull). But I'm just curious, if during Marv's first go around if people were this impatient. My guess would be no, but I have to admit to being too young at the time to really know. Insight from Lori and the many other respected ones on this board would be interesting.

Why throw an entire season away because of one!
RuntheDamnBall replied to DeLuca1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
DeLuca, your objective facts lack context. A lot of 'em. How can you say "it doesn't matter what other quarterbacks do, Losman sucks and always will suck," when in essence what you are asking for is another quarterback? Hence, people compare him to other QBs to lend the whole issue some context. They may not all be the best comparisons, but neither are your stats -- on their own. If someone can show that a successful QB had the same kinds of bad stats early in his career, it's relevant. It means there is a chance for the guy to grow. Again, I'm glad reactionaries like you don't make these decisions. It would make Bills football far more unbearable, and that's saying something. -
VA's right. Five-six more fumbles a season probably makes up for the difference in yardage. Let's also not forget that on a losing team a RB will see less time on the field, especially late in the game when defenses are tired and backs tend to gain their most yardage.

Our QB problems start with our scouts
RuntheDamnBall replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not any one thing. It can't be. If it were, it would have been corrected by now. The other difficulty is there have been appearances that things were corrected that really weren't, which makes things far more difficult. These include Drew's fine first-half performance in '02, the drafting of Mike Williams, new systems installed, new OL coaches hired, the benching of JP for Holcomb, etc. All of these were thought to be solutions (several of them exercised repeatedly), and none proved to be. It can't all be on any one department or person. On the contrary, it takes all cylinders firing and all keys turned at the same time, plus a little luck to get the right guy in the right system with the right personnel. The odds are against things working out, or at the very best they are even. If it were easier, well, it'd be obvious. -
NBC rejects ad for Dixie Chicks film

Dylan is a terrific songwriter. Every one of Billy Joel's moves can be seen coming a mile away. I just don't buy him as a poet or composer of much other than schlock. The too many times hearing "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" at the laundromat have filled me with hatred. -
Let's see the real progress of this Bills unit.

I believe at some point that would mean that the ex-girl had kicked the mule for you, therefore swinging the advantage back to the ex-girl. -

Your radio dial's stuck on "crap"? -
I rated it 4. I've got a beautiful wife, jobs and respectability in my field are looking up, and I'm happy where I am. What would make it a 5 would be more initiative and less laziness on my part, more consistent time spent on music, and a little more money in the bank account with the idea that I might even be able to afford to start thinking about a place in NYC.

Great post. The whole anti-JP thing right now, especially in light of what we've got, is probably best illustrated by the Simpsons line "SOMEONE ELSE! SOMEONE ELSE!" Well, "someone else" has obviously been seen by the coaching staff enough to determine that JP is a better option for now -- and staying with him now gives us better options for next season. It is the best option to see if this adversity can bring out something better in JP in this second half. -

Not at QB. You'd be better off starting LT at QB than Andrew Walter. -

Lotta football to be played is all I've got to say. For example, Seattle has a better record but looks like a team in serious trouble right now. Other teams with losing records right now may yet prove to make it. Let's hope ours is one of them. -

You Losman haters never cease to amaze. How many bad turnovers did Jimbo commit? Plenty. How many pro seasons did he have before he started to shine in Buffalo? Four. Losman has come out of these "poor" first seven games with a 62% completion rate, three games in which he had completions of over 40 yards, and steady improvement over last year's lost season. He is learning. Even his coach calls him a rookie from a developmental standpoint. I am so glad he doesn't listen to impatient "fans" like you who think that one magic move will make this altogether sorry team a playoff team. Losman's line is so bad a 7th rounder is being called an upgrade at tackle. He's been blindsided more times this year than I can count, and some of the 11 turnovers you harp on were direct results of those hits. His defense kills itself by committing a killer penalty on what was a stalled drive. Yet it's all his fault to the people who appear to know nothing about football. These kinds of posts remind me of a baby in the most complete sense of the word: "Waaaah, I want it NOW!" -
I wouldn't mind having Michael Vick's TE, Alge Crumpler. We have no one of that caliber on this team.

Please tell me you don't honestly believe this. This is almost as bad as praying for a good parking space.

I think in my audition they told me I didn't use the devil smiley enough. BTW, it's insight. -
A FULLBACK. And I, too, would choose the guy from Rutgers to fill that position.

Ahh, the old Buffalo sports fan, back so soon, as predicted. How about, they're great so far, have come out of every game with a point so far, and this is going to be an exciting season? The real worrisome thing is not Saturday's performance; it's Tallinder's injury. We shall see what Paetsch is made of.

Well, seeing as how you're thankfully not the one entrusted with the decision, you have a few options: 1) don't watch the games 2) don't start another dumb JP Losman post 3) stop whining -
