Why is Tuten Reyes still on the roster?
RuntheDamnBall replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Camp body. Since he has no roster bonus it's fiscally OK to keep him on thru camp and then dump him if he doesn't cut the mustard as a reserve. Since he's on a multi-year contract, may as well use what you've got. -
Well, we've already seen that the 'I'm old,' 'i'm not sure I understand the salary cap' statements during his PC were a smokescreen, after all the OL signings. We'll have to see what else is up his sleeve.

Go watch another sport if you're going to be so freaking negative all the time. I'd love to hear you rip into the technique of bobsledders or something because you appear to be the goddamned expert about everything. Where've you been, anyway? Just waiting for the next opportunity to talk some sh--, no doubt. bwak.

Any of you bean-counters know? I'm not asking CP to update his page already, just wondering if anyone has ballpark figures after these 3 signings.

Oh yes, support our troops™
RuntheDamnBall replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
These points are all well-taken. My point in posting this was that the soldiers are being used as props for this President, and those that are prosecuting the war can't even do their best to make sure that people who have been severely wounded in it are well-taken care of. I am shocked this is occuring in the military precisely because of the rallying cry to support these guys, because of the notion that any dissenting move is a move against them. In the meantime, those who have given their limbs, their mobility, and more for this war are not being tended to properly. -
In one year. How much did rock fall in past years? I remember the 'rock is dead' cries a few years ago, due to poor sales. True that may be, but the fact is the genres, like someone else here has said, are cyclical in their popularity.

A lot of people who enjoy the tangible music-buying experience are going with vinyl, as well. Here in Greenpoint/Williamsburg I believe 3-4 new shops that cater to vinyl buyers just opened, in addition to a few old reliables. Tough business, though. And new vinyl is dwindling. Mostly used business.
-
And viewed through the same narrow lens rock music is all about sexual innuendo, devil-worship and hedonism. Just sayin'. If you don't like what's out there you find something else. In many genres of music I think you can find some true art.
-
Bingo. I'm sure it's down as much as rock sales or anything else. People are looking for trends to talk about and write articles about. There are some fine hip-hop albums being made but they aren't and were rarely ever the kind that sold millions. The whole music industry is a complete joke.

Dance Copyright Enforced by DMCA
RuntheDamnBall replied to Tux of Borg's topic in Off the Wall Archives
By all rights I am certain you can copyright a dance piece. Not one singular movement -- like the King of Pop can't claim ownership of the crotch grab -- but a series of them developed in the studio. I'll have to check on this. I do some sound for dance groups often and they've mentioned that performances/choreography can't be copied. It's like the song versus the performance of it. You need rights to perform the (written) song, or rights to speak written lines in a theatre. -
Dance Copyright Enforced by DMCA
RuntheDamnBall replied to Tux of Borg's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'd say this: a choreographer probably has the right to disallow someone from using his/her dance and charging a fee to an unauthorized performance or for selling a video of it. This because that dance is intellectual property and time and money was invested to create that original work. Until we want to subsidize artists on a more wholesale basis, if we want them to create things that the public will enjoy, they have to be able to eat to do so. As to whether this means everyone unfortunately trying to dance like MC Hammer should be sending him a check, I'm less certain about that. -

SD "Reportedly" Shopping RB Turner
RuntheDamnBall replied to Dual RB way to go's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nope. If you can draft three good players you don't take a risk on a guy who has been a backup, even if he's backing up the best player at his position. Didn't we already go through this plucking a guy who had some sharp numbers backing up Mark Brunell, trading two picks, one of which turned out to be a fine running back? Not smart. Take the chance to get more good players rather than betting on some supposed sure thing. Thurman Thomas was a 2nd rounder considered an injury risk. We all know how that turned out. -
Tim Anderson reportedly tendered
RuntheDamnBall replied to JoeF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I keep seeing the word 'tendered' and referring mentally to last season, when wrassler Tim was tenderized. -
They also keep Rochester a little more happy, and we can send Mancari back down there instead of throwing him into the fire on our power play. I am very happy that we have made these moves for young depth with a little NHL seasoning on the blueline. We sorely lacked that in last year's playoffs. We had Jillson Schmillson, a plateaued Janik, Rory F at #3 and an emerging Paetsch. Much more confident should a vet go down this time, with a lights-out Paetsch at #7 and Jaro ready to bang it up again come playoff time, and these new guys in the wings should the worst happen.

Attention Fair weathered Losers....
RuntheDamnBall replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I did think the coaches mishandled the clock. But they made many positive strides this past season and it was no way to let the players leave the field for the last time we'd see them this season. Boo the play, for sure. Boo the players when they're leaving and taunt them en route to the tunnel, swear at them? It just left a bad taste in my mouth as we left the game, made my $50 seem less well spent. Like Bill from NYC and some others around here, I like going to games win or lose. Sure, you want to win, but if you can handle and shrug off the bad times the good ones feel so much better. Were this a team like Detroit, I might feel differently. -
Attention Fair weathered Losers....
RuntheDamnBall replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was in the tunnel-end zone so this is probably half of it, but people were just booing, yelling, screaming 'you f---ing suck' in front of kids, etc especially when they didn't go for the field goal near the end, and when the team went back into the tunnel the treatment was worse. I don't know. I think the team tried their darndest and they are still learning, players and staff alike. Maybe I excuse them too much. But I thought it was a lousy way to say thanks for giving us a fairly exciting season. If I were a player it wouldn't make me that interested in staying. It's worlds apart from the reception the crowd gave TKO, for example, end of the season before he signed. I just miss the positivity around Bills games -- you get it at the tailgates and I probably need to hit those up with some of the cooler people around here. Seems like it must make it a lot more fun. -
Let's not forget that it was an ailing Novotny who has been on and off IR this season that we parted ways with. He'd be nice to have in the future but we've already seen that the future looks good playing prospects who are only arguably ready at this point -- not in their primes. This is about making a run at the Cup. I'd feel a bit better if we could have gotten Boucher instead of Conklin, but let's let 'er rip and see what happens. Zubrus is not a bad pickup. If anything I am more worried about how much dealing everyone else did to position themselves for the postseason. Should be interesting to see which moves work, and which don't.
