Is there a better 1970s band than the Ramones?
RuntheDamnBall replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Not to mention capes in rock and roll. If you ask me, Spinal Tap's a pretty good barometer of the hubris of rock's self-importance and institution. -

I guess it must not have happened, then. -

My top 2 are Starland Vocal Band and Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band -
Exactly. And putting him up there with Lawrence Taylor is unreal. LT changed the game in so many ways. Faulk is 'just' (to downplay it too much) the 'Version 2.0' of what other backs did very well before him. He is a certifiable HOFer, but game-changing? Not sure. I think he just fit in the game very well because he was very talented. Schlereth then said that MF's legacy was guys like Brian Westbrook and Reggie Bush and two-back sets, which was to the detriment of his argument. Right now those guys are much better pass-catching backs than they are bust-through-the-line runners. And two backs means you have complementary talents, not one guy who is the whole package, so I'm not sure what MF had to do with that revolution in the game.

It was Schlereth, who is generally one of their smarter guys, even if I don't always agree with him. On an ESPN side note, I am really glad they are putting an X's and O's guy like Jaws in the booth for MNF instead of a guy like Theismann who thinks he knows everything but bends with the wind.

Grade the Bills trade for Walker
RuntheDamnBall replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Adams was, and wanted to be, a penetrating tackle. That was his beef with the coaches. They wanted him to stay at home and he wanted to get into the backfield. PW was a true clog-up the middle guy. -

Grade the Bills trade for Walker

This trade surely means that we now have the NFL's best defense in March. -
I sure do. I will still wear my Spikes jersey proud, but that McGahee jersey is looking for a worthy player to replace the nameplate. I didn't buy either of them for myself, but I'm glad I've got a Losman throwback to wear and keep current.

I can just imagine if "Little Larry" Tripplett pissed him off: "We're gonna cut your dick off, Larry!" "This is what happens!" -

I think his first two years here he was extraordinary. Due to injury and Pat Williams' loss, his production obviously suffered. But I'd take these numbers anytime: Year G Total Tkl Ast Sacks Int Yds Avg Lg TD Pass Def FF 2003 16 126 70.0 56 2 2 1 0.5 1 0 6 1 2004 16 96 61.0 35 3 5 122 24.4 62 2 11 3 -

? I can't believe some people were upset McGahee left but don't care that we lost this guy. "Meh" all you want, but this guy always played hard, and when healthy, well. -

It's been mentioned in a few of the trade threads, but like some others here, I'm very, very sad to see this guy go. I felt, and still feel, like it would have been worth it to see what a great LB like Spikes had left in the tank two years removed from a bad injury. I'm excited to see what Walker brings to the table, but I always valued TKO's competitive edge, the fact that he was very excited to come to Buffalo because of the FANS, and that when he was at his very best he was an exciting maniac to watch on the football field. Wish that injury never happened. Best of luck on a new team that, thankfully, is one I can see myself pulling for as long as they aren't playing the BILLS! Thanks for your effort and short time as a great Bill, Takeo. Oh, and Holcomb, you were never a bad dude, despite the idiotic posts you inspired. As long as my team was going to be in a holding pattern, I'm glad it was with you at the helm. Best of luck in your 6 starts once Donovan gets hurt again.

Its Darwin Walker for Spikes and Kelly
RuntheDamnBall replied to seq004's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why the surprise? I could see performance-based uppers for that pick based on sacks, tackles, starts, etc. If he can't make it for 12 of 16 games next year the Eagles would be right not to have to give up a draft pick for him. -
I have to agree with you there. The more rolls you get, the more likely you are to get the coveted '3.5' You get a better chance that you're going to find a guy like Colston or Brady in a late round when you have more shots.
-
I don't follow basketball, but Kenny Rogers is getting old, does he have more left in the tank? Did Verlander push too hard last season? Pudge has seen a significant power drop-off. The Predators have the look but Forsberg is always an injury concern. Do they look strong? Certainly. But those kinds of little questions, nagging questions, are the ones that seem to determine the course of a season and, ultimately, a playoff run.

Spikes "officially" on the trading block
RuntheDamnBall replied to blacklabel82's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's asinine, probably the stupidest post I've seen here in awhile, excepting what goes on in the PPP board from time to time. In the first year of your 'theft' scenario, the guy tore his Achilles playing a tough and violent sport and giving it his all. I suggest you go tear your Achilles and try and do things as well as you did before less than a year after the injury. See if your boss sues you for theft when you're hobbling around trying to get your work done. Meanwhile Spikes was playing not well, but at least average for his position, especially considering he also tweaked a hammy. The ruptured Achilles is well-known as a two-year injury. You don't cut and run when you have a hurt player, especially not when he's a player the caliber of Spikes. You wait it out and see if he can return to form. -
Are the Democrates Proud of This?
RuntheDamnBall replied to VRWC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The rest of the context is the relatively peaceful rally. Also note that the photographer chose those photos, of all of them, to say, "I do not agree with this." It was right here in NYC. Yes, they were carrying signs for a particular group that has been identified as carrying out these sorts of 'missions' to make otherwise peaceful rallies look bad. There are anarchists and more at this rally. Sure, some probably are Democrats but this is not a sanctioned Democratic party event. You know, people can actually act outside the boundaries of a political party. Besideswhich, Democrats are generally far too benign and middling to cater to these people, believe it or not (and I know you won't in your RichIO-like lunacy). And I was referring to the photos aside from the effigy photos, anyway. Also, most Presidents are liars. I know it would burst your bubble to have the thought challenged that Bush is practically perfect in every way. You're right. And I have the right to criticize your claim that these people are 'abusing' a right. You can't abuse a right. You can exercise it, or you can go beyond that right to break a law and be punished for it. There's little grey area. People said the same damn sh-- about Clinton and I'm sure you were whistling along. People were doing the same damn stunts in 2000, in 1998, and before, with a Democrat in office -- it just didn't have wartime currency or instant YouTube publicity. If you want people to be punished for this expression of thought, then you're one step away from ThoughtCrime and Gestapo Living. That's not the America the rest of us signed up for. I said the effigy goons were idiots, did I not? Your soundbites and platitudes are tired, well-rehearsed, and meaningless. Richio is back, folks. -
Spikes "officially" on the trading block
RuntheDamnBall replied to blacklabel82's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But it IS foolish to let word get out about it, when you're dealing with a proud man who's given 100% to this football team through some tough years, and could really help it along if he returns to full strength. I am of the mind that Spikes was HOF-worthy at the pace he was going before his injury. Asking for a pay cut right now would literally be adding insult to that injury. -
Spikes "officially" on the trading block
RuntheDamnBall replied to blacklabel82's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is foolish, if true. But, as much insider status as Gaughan might have, it doesn't mean a thing until it comes from the horse's mouth. I would not trade Spikes until we're through with minicamps, at the very least. -

I guess 'buffalo' made all the difference. And this doesn't excuse the fact that BB.com's navigation is so poor that you can't access this from any page on their site.

Looked at that one. Maybe. Flores is one of the few other non-stiffs on there, but he didn't find much success as a Bill.
