Yeah, interesting question. The big question, a lingering one, is: Is Bradford a franchise QB? This could also be a smokescreen from the Rams in early negotiating or angling for a trade-down. Personally, I think Suh will be worth the going rate (Berry won't) with the understanding that rookie salaries are inflated and that that's just the way the game is. But if the Rams don't need him as badly, they sort of need to address their own issues. This does highlight once more the need for a rookie salary cap. Teams shouldn't be *not* drafting the best player available for their needs simply because he's going to command an All-Pro's salary without having done a damn thing in the NFL.

You must have an awesome stock portfolio. What kind of defense do the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints play? -

You're right, franchise QBs are only available in the top ten. Sincerely, Kurt Warner, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Brett Favre and Matt Schaub -
I don't think you want a WR in the first round, but if Golden Tate somehow falls to us in round 2, or is available earlier in round 2 via a reasonable trade, I'd jump on it. The kid just gets open. He doesn't have a lot of the prototypical speed or size people like in a WR, but we've looked for those kinds of measurables before and gotten burned. I'd take Tate anywhere he can be gotten in round 2.

We're in a time when the trend is to overvalue QBs; 9 of the last 11 #1 overall selections have been QBs despite question marks surrounding a few of them. You're crazy if you think that nobody is going to blink and take a QB in the top 15. Only four times in the past twenty years has the entire league agreed that the QB crop is that poor/questionable, and Bradford is more heralded than those guys despite the injury. The full list is at DraftHistory.com for anyone interested. It's quite the trip through memory lane... with the wreckage of plenty of failed dreams. See: 1991 Dan McGwire (#16 overall) -- after him: Marinovich (#24) and then Favre (#33) *whoops!* 1996 - worst draft year for QBs ever? Tony Banks (#42 overall) -- after him: Bobby Hoying (#85) Danny Kanell (#130) 1997 Jim Druckenmiller (#26 overall) -- after him: Jake Plummer (#42) Danny Wuerffel (#99) 2000 Chad Pennington (#18) Giovanni Carmazzi (#65) Chris Redman (#75) Tee Martin (#163) Marc Bulger (#168) Spergon Wynn (#183) Tom Brady Patriots (#199) -- whoops! -
This garbage QB helped his team beat the vikes, giants, and champion saints to end the season. He throws TD passes. These aspects of his record do in fact make him more appealing than the schmoes on our roster who cannot beat winning teams or throw TDs.

So... Polian got lucky that before he was hired as GM, his franchise QB refused to sign with his team, he was able to address the lines in the interim, and his QB came in to the team with two years of NFL caliber experience? This is actually great thinking. Sounds like a plan. Nix should draft Bradford, ask the UFL to create six more franchises, ensure that they sign away more NFL-caliber talent, let Bradford "hold out" and play in the UFL for two championship years, and then we'll be golden. The only missing steps are 1. Steal underpants 2. ??????? 3. Profit

Who is above replacement value on our offense that we're so worried will turn into an aging commodity? You can find serviceable quarterbacks all the time (Pennington, Collins, etc - not this year, but guys like them). There is always a vet who can step in and run things while a young player is groomed. In fact, Pennington was a beneficiary of this while Testaverde started. It is a lot harder to build up the line. I defy you to show me one situation where the hotshot QB stepped in behind a line as bad as the Bills', and the team was in the playoffs that year or next. Alternatively, I can cite many situations where an able vet ran the show and succeeded because the rest of the pieces were in place, and then a young guy stepped in to improve the team.

Losman could start for Raiders
RuntheDamnBall replied to Rust Belt Nights's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm with Pete. JP did everything asked of him and this team hardly ever put him in a position to succeed. They seemed to be moving in that direction in 2006 and then took a left turn. I don't think he's the best, or even good, but I'd love to see him turn it around. However, the Raiders probably don't offer him a very good chance for this. Also, Bleacher Report isn't much of a source. You and I could write (better) articles. -
I wonder if Carolina would take a second for him. I disagree, man. Carolina started winning games as soon as he replaced Delhomme. You would be happy with a QB that came in and performed like that if you drafted him in the second round. Hell, people fell head over heels in love with Edwards just for not looking like a lost little five-year-old, even if he still sucked and couldn't score TDs. Moore looked very good against three good teams, two of them the NFC finalists. BTW his team won those games.
-
I could see him going home to Texas to play for Houston. I think they could use him, too.
-
They need a Nose Tackle more than they need a QB. A young QB is not going to magically make the offense better and in fact he might just struggle as much as our past QBs did last year. He will need time. He won't have time if his defense is on the field getting gashed by the run, and he won't have time if he has a couple of trafffic cones at the tackle positions.

What is with all of the failed physicals

Half a decade. He left in 2005. He was with the Gregg Williams staff in a different role. He was S&C coach until 2004. -

It was Greggo's staff that removed Rusty from the position he'd had so much success at (through a "promotion") but most coaches have a history of bringing in "their guys." I imagine Rusty wanted to get back to doing what he did best. Hopefully the focus-area approach of the Bills' two new additions at the position will work. They need for it to. At the same time, the freak broken legs / arms / spinal injuries have more to do with happenstance, being out of position, and not being right for the position than anything else. In a way, Jauron's staffs would have been in part to blame for this. -
+1 for Eddie "faked out of his drawers by 'Wheels' Pennington" Robinson. Offense: anyone Bills guard or center from 2004-2008.
-
I meant 1B. Evans needs coaching and he needs to run better routes, but I think at this stage of the game his ceiling is higher with a QB who can get him the ball.

I hate hate hate this approach to QB evaluation. Here's why. Johnson sucked, but use some better evidence.
