  1. Caifornia Raisin Bowl, dude. This couldn't have less to do with Christmas.
  2. Brian McClure is available.
  3. Why? What, if anything, has Edwards shown you that leads you to equate him with Favre or even Eli? Is it his numerous 300 yard games? Is it the fact that he is too scared to even go after the garbage time TD? Is it the ability to completely avoid the receiver with open field ahead of him, instead trying to hit the guy on a crossing pattern with two tacklers ready to destroy him? Please share. This isn't a panic move. Edwards was a liability out there. For as much as Favre and Eli have been liabilities at times, it's because they are taking chances and trying to lead their teams to win - not to "not lose."
  4. Does nailing it all the time start to hurt after awhile, BK?
  5. Just travelling back in time, I wonder what a Dick Jauron panic attack looks like. Perhaps he raises his eyebrows, or adjusts his cap.
  6. I texted my dad during the game to the same effect. But, if this is all about the future and not the present of the team, it's probably worth it to exploit his value and fill a need. Whether that can be accomplished to the satisfaction of the Bills and another team is up for debate. I wouldn't trade him for a draft pick only, because they likely won't be realizing the returns on that for at least a year and a half. They need to bring more talent into the system, now.
  7. "know."
  8. If he doesn't make the change he's an idiot and doesn't see what we all see: that the offense sucks. If he makes the change he's in panic mode. He's not going to win with people like you and Jerry Sullivan, so are you looking for a lot of "right on!" statements here, or a conversation, or what? I take issue with giving Edwards the shot to begin with (and not giving Brohm et al a chance with the #1s), but this is a pretty conservative league and I understand WHY it happened that way. The Spiller pick should have signalled that this is a regime that is trying, at least, to take the long view. That might make the games excruciating right now, but at least Chan is adjusting to respond to the veterans' (and by extension, the fans') needs while building it up.
  9. It's hard to see receivers in the NFL. C'mon, dude, things at my job are hard, but if I suck at them consistently, I'm out of a job. I do my best to figure it out, and put myself in the best situation to fix the problem. Where's the evidence that Trent (or his coaches) can do that on gameday? If we start seeing Fitz finding his 3rd/4th option, stepping up into the pocket to deliver the pass, tossing it up to a deep target over the shoulder, and leading more than one sustained drive per game, I think you're going to have an answer to this question of "are they getting open?"
  10. The only thing they are going to be able to get in return for Edwards at this stage is a roster slot. Let me put it this way: You, a Bills fan, obviously don't think highly of him if you want him moved with haste. Why in their right mind would any NFL GM give up anything of value for him, then? Anyone who might want him knows he's going to come free at some point.
  11. crap. there goes that thought. Philly saw blood in the water, and knew the Bills were exploring a Lynch trade. This makes that a little harder to do.
  12. The Hardy and possibly the Maybin picks hurt, lots. But man was 2002-06 a dead zone. All the first-day talent they seem to have gotten out of that period was Lee Evans. 2007-2009 look like bountiful harvests in comparison. You can't judge the 2010 picks by their performance thus far, though. That's just dumb. If the Packers had done that in 2005 do you think Rodgers would be kicking so much ass right now? I know, I know, he was sitting behind Favre, but there were plenty wondering if he had the goods after a few years sitting behind #4. PS Mabden: McKelvin is a player.
  13. Do you think OG is really a position of desperate need? I tend to think they are 'more OK' at the interior positions than at OT. I do think you're correct that this is more likely, though. I don't see GB giving up an OT. I like Lynch as a back, but I could deal with Lang and a draft pick that escalates with performance in a trade. I still think RBs are plentiful enough though that they could ride a guy like Joique Bell even to some success. Stranger things have happened. Slightly related question: can a team 'work out' a guy on another club's practice squad - kick the tires, so to speak?
  14. Why would Green Bay trade a starting-caliber OT for a running back in this league? I don't get it at all. If they want to overpay like that, they're more than welcome, but I don't think they'd at all be getting the kind of value you look for in a trade. I guess if they think Marshawn is a top-5 back on a terrible team, it's a possibility, but it's unlikely IMO.
  15. I think it's pretty safe to say that whether or not Edwards ever had the ability to play the position, he's shot. Damaged goods. Too much Jauron. Too many hits. Plays scared. Looks for the first opportunity to get out of a play. Doesn't go through progressions. Seizes on a target and doesn't look at the better option developing 5 yards away from his target. I think it's safe to say this in part the result of poor line play, but Trent, and Trent alone left some plays on the field and that is his fault. Stevie Johnson and Roscoe both hurt him a lot, and the pass protection was piss poor from all quarters - not just the line - but that doesn't mean that Trent was choosing the best option on either of those plays.
  16. Trent's had 3+ years to show what he has and who he is on the field. It's not going in the right direction for him or for the team. He looks to be completely damaged goods out there. He's playing scared, the lack of protection is making him more scared, and he just needs to take a seat. Brohm has some semblance of upside and will take deep shots. At the very least he makes this season interesting for Bills fans. It's a poor move to go entirely on fan reaction and moves that sell tickets, but I don't think this is about that only. It's also about the confidence the team has in its leader and the sense that it's moving in the right direction. I just don't get that sense at all looking at them on the field and on the sidelines. I think Brohm would fail, probably often, this season. But I think he would be going down swinging, taking risks, doing some of the things that are necessary to win football games and the confidence of your teammates. Maybe I'm wrong and there's a whole lot I'm not seeing that happens in practice, but I have not seen anything from Trent that makes me a believer.
  17. You might be right on Evans, but I just am not certain given the fact that other QBs have been able to get him the ball, where "for whatever reason" Trent can't (to use a Trentism). No matter what market you're in, selling low is a big mistake unless you think there's zero chance of recovering that value. I don't think anyone is going to give us two #2s for Evans, and I think he's worth at least a two and a three.
  18. I think the depth chart (at QB and RT in particular) is too f&*%ed up to know if a game plan existed.
  19. I think you're right on these dudes: Wood Levitre F. Jackson Lynch Spiller Stupar (as a backup) Shawn Nelson D. Nelson - I'd keep Evans. He might not be a #1 but you don't cut the best you've got without replacing him, and I don't think they need more holes. If pressed draft / groom / sign in FA a new #1. I think he gets open more than you believe, and that Edwards refuses to find him or drop it where no one else can get it (we see good QBs do this with their apparently "covered" WRs all the time). - Bell could still be OK. I am not a believer but he is at least above replacement level as a backup - Parrish's window is closing but he is one of the few guys who has playmaker potential. I tend to agree that this doesn't ameliorate his bonehead errors. - Steve Johnson is probably not a #2 wideout but it's worth letting it play out over the year and giving him a lot of competition next camp. Errors from a guy starting his second game ever are to be expected. I view him differently than I do Parrish for that reason, and I also think all the WRs are sick of being hung out to dry by Trent in these short patterns over the middle that everyone and their grandmother knows are #5's preference. - Green must go. And I'm being polite here. - Hangartner is above average as a backup center. I still think we need premier talent here to succeed in Buffalo, but wouldn't upgrade this position first. - don't know about the FB position. - Donald Jones is probably OK on ST for now and won't be pressed into duty for more, so no need to cut. - you probably have to look at dealing one of the backs since there are so many needs. It's kind of a joke though since they are really the only productive skill players on this team. Cures at QB and RT, and health and positive growth in the current group's LG, RG and LT would solve a lot of ills. Shawn Nelson emerging as a viable receiving threat would help, too. A lot remains to be seen there. I think they'd all look a lot better with an Aaron Rodgers (who reminded me of Jimbo more than once today) than with a Trent Edwards.
  20. Right, fire the guy when he has nothing to work with and was one of the few people excited to take the job. That'll get us places, and by "places" I mean "compared to Oakland more than we already are." Do you honestly believe Gailey is calling rollouts and is responsible for breakdowns in execution and in calling in changes in protection? Trent can check out of anything he doesn't like, he just clearly can't read it pre-snap. He can't tell when the opposition's best rush LB has no one on him that he's about to get destroyed if he doesn't call in an audible or at least motion some help to that side. He's lost against 3-4 defenses. This was all true prior to Gailey's arrival, so stop acting like it's Chan's responsibility to have coached the Dick out of "Son of Jor-on" in a few months.
  21. BINGO. Luckiest QB of 2009.
  22. Re: #3 - Presuming there is a new CBA, any new CBA is going to have a rookie cap. Good year to draft a QB!
  23. "WHY DON'T YOU WORK?"
  24. that it's only one of them and it's somehow going to be weighted more heavily than an objective analysis of a 16-game season. He had a good game against a good opponent this week. Hurrah for him. He had a bad game last week. Plenty of guys have been made to look bad by the Ravens D, but I want to see a full season of competence from the kid before I'll listen to anyone who says he's good, much less in the upper echelon of QBs.
