  1. I know he is 99.9% likely to re-sign with the Eagles (unless he has already - I've seen no source on this). But anything can happen in negotiations, the man is broke, and if the Eagles try to hedge their bets given that they have Kolb in the fold, who knows. I didn't select him given the fact that many steps would need to take place for it to happen. I agree, it's a pretty bad list, and there will be other QB options out there in 2012 that won't be worse.
  2. It's hard to play a great game in the NFL.
  3. Good post. I actually thought about putting Bulger on the list, and you've got some good points. I don't think he was ever anywhere close to Warner, but he has had a better career than Fitz. I think, though, that given the time it would take for him to click in our offense, and given the state of the OL, it's not worth putting a vet who is that close to the end h Pennington's arm (which was never any great shakes) has got to be so shot right now that I don't think that's a possibility or a scenario worth examining. Six years ago, sure. But now? Meh. Seneca's ability kind of intrigues me, too, but as with Troy Smith, it seems like these guys would have caught on with a starting job at some point given the opportunities they've had (both have been in situations of long-term starter injury, or no clear-cut #1). Aside from Newton, to which I attribute some of his "shiny newness," Kolb's got the most votes here so far (obviously many more could weigh in). To those of you who favor him, why? And what makes him not Rob Johnson part II? No disrespect intended, just interested because what I've seen of him hasn't impressed me.
  4. I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers.
  5. The Carson Palmer possibly available thread got me thinking about just whom I'd be comfortable bringing in either as competition or heir apparent to Fitzy. To be honest, not many of these names thrill me. If you vote for a guy under contract or likely to be re-signed (Kolb or Vick, for example), I ask that you consider what'd have to be given up to get him. I've taken outright laughable choices like JP, Trent, and Jamarcus out of the mix, but there are still some pretty high-comedy names on this list to choose from. Just interested in gauging the temperature. I've also kept Peyton out of the choices, because it's a foregone conclusion he'll be re-signed. Mark me as a write-in for a 3rd-4th round guy like Devlin or Kellen Moore, a guy that the FA thinks has smarts but a little more polish than Levi Brown. Mallett in the second round would be, for me, a dream, but a low-probability one. Newton I would grudgingly accept only if he passes Gailey's rigorous examination. If he's picked because Ralph wants some excitement, despite opposition in the draft room, we're doomed.
  6. No way. It'd be a poor-man's version of Bledsoe's last ride.
  7. Did we get a time machine and draft Ngata? Casey Hampton and Jay Ratliff are also very good. Kyle is an awesome player but not my prototypical NT. He is in fact evidence that when you value scheme over talent and hard work you will get burned.
  8. I completely forgot about his tenure with the Bears. Anyone have a better memory than I do? A biased opinion criticism but it sounds like he had some successes nonetheless, and that a lot of his issues pertained to his oversight of personnel - which wouldn't be his role here with the Bills. Also seems like he became a better HC - if not a very good one - with the Dolphins.
  9. You see it this way. I see two guys who helped their teams get to double-digit wins. Maybe it was the franchises and not the players.
  10. ???? In what world is it bad to have a prototypical #1 receiver or a TE who can haul in 60+ catches for 700+ yards? I buy that neither of those QBs were good, but jury is out on McCoy (who I do kind of like, but probably not in Cleveland weather).
  11. When a guy's tenure includes doing nothing special with the Lions as DC, I think you kind of have to view him with suspicion.
  12. Not trying to get too philosophical. But common sense kind of demands some constraints and discipline that is alien to most of these guys' upbringings. Kind of why it's becoming less common.
  13. Tim Tebow: HOF bound after 1+1/2 games. Almost did it as fast as Rob Johnson. That's true, but multiple playoff QBs, some among the greats, have come from places other than R1-2. Steve Young [supplemental] Rich Gannon [fourth] Trent Green [eighth] Kurt Warner [uDFA] Matt Hasselbeck [6th] Mark Bulger [6th] Matt Schaub [3rd] Kyle Orton [4th] Brad Johnson [9th]
  14. No doubt. It's clear that this team was the right head coach away from greatness. All the pieces were in place. But also, the players onboard sucked, which should have been obvious. If only we had gotten a proven winner like Shanahan.
  15. That kind of thought process has to go into it, right? I mean, if you reward the wrong kinds of kids, you're basically enabling self-destruction. The league and individual franchises have some work to do in helping these guys, but it unfortunately seems some of that work should have been done by parents. A little late for that.
  16. wow, a gentleman and a scholar.
  17. too many busts along with that stache might make this a NSFW thread.
  18. Whitner to Cleveland? Calling it here. Kelsay & McKelvin for #1 + #2 picks? A man can dream!
  19. The answer is whatever shuts down the opponent best on that given day or play. 5-2 might get Williams, Carrington and Troup onfield at the same time, and that might be right for a given situation. You run what you need to.
  20. Sounds like someone needs a bottle. Other teams turn their fortunes around because they have a base of underachieving talent and aren't really that far away. The Bills had an overachieving group of guys who are basically undersized specialists not suited for most of the rigors of the NFL. They also came very close to surprising two of the top-8 teams left, and one of the Super Bowl contenders. I know close isn't close enough, but this team is on the right path. It might not be enough for you, but I'm more confident than I was at any time during the Jauron era, and that includes 5-1 in that ill-fated season. Would you feel better if they canned Trent in the offseason and he went somewhere else to succeed? Or if they cut Maybin and McCargo and signed a few corpses for the inactive list?
  21. Yeah, that's gross. I get it.
  22. Why? The tape probably gives them mixed reviews that indicates that the players excelled in certain systems, or against certain competition, and not in other situations? Taking at least a year to evaluate makes a lot of sense. Unless you want to fill out the whole roster with practice squad-level players who are only there because you picked them, eliminating all the dead weight isn't going to happen all at once.
  23. Right, stay away from boobs. I don't get it.
