  1. That's all nice except for the parts where you're completely wrong and talking out of your a$$. Late 1st / early second is EXACTLY where the premier interior linemen go. Maurkice Pouncey (even earlier at #18), Mangold, Hutchinson, Mankins, the list goes on. BTW: Wood and Levitre were picks #2 and 4 for the Bills (late 1st, early second) in the 2009 draft. Maybin was the first, Byrd was third. Wood and Levitre might yet be certifiable all-pros. Levitre continues to play like the Bills' best lineman, and Wood played admirably coming off that horrific broken leg and might be a worthy starting center. I expect both to star in year 3.
  2. I'm an Orton fan, actually. But I don't think he's a major upgrade. A solid upgrade when considering only his position? Sure. Still, I beg to differ, when Orton will cost us picks. Fitz + the picks >> Orton and surrendering picks. This team needs more rolls of the dice on talent, not fewer. FYI This might have been handier than your "because I say so" rationale. The stats do tilt in Orton's favor though he had all of preseason with the #1s, and Fitz took awhile to heat up in this offense. I still don't see a major upgrade here and Fitz can keep plays alive with his legs where Orton can't.
  3. AJ Feeley has seen this movie before.
  4. Jauron football: It worked well on Friday.
  5. It's amazing how many professional doctors have time in their busy schedules to share their opinions on an NFL message board. It's also amazing how tough many of them are. It's also amazing how many of them feel the need to cut down others to reinforce said toughness, not to mention their wild success in the medical world.
  6. Yet even with a few terrible years, he has had more production per season than any LB on the Bills roster. Go figure. I really can't believe that people are arguing that this is a bad gamble. It's almost as though no one remembers how much money they just gave Chris Kelsay, who is depth on a decent NFL roster at best. They are giving Merriman relative peanuts in hope of recapturing his past form. They are not on the hook for much and the potential reward is huge. And let's put it this way: more valuable to the Bills - 60% of past Merriman, or Keith Ellison? Discuss.
  7. No you don't. You need guys with good technique and moves, depending on your system, that can be anywhere from 280lbs+. NTs should almost without exception be 300+, but other than that, there are variables.
  8. I'm sorry Mr. Wilson. Please light a sadness cigar with a $1000 bill for us. PS: The Royal "we" doesn't really make a lot of sense here. Wilson can spend his money on whatever he wants. Spending it on a 26-year-old former defensive MVP candidate is hardly wasting that money when you look at other guys who have robbed the Bills for far more. I'm going to make it my personal mission to cheer Shawne Merriman on and hope he succeeds in an extra special way, so that the know-it-alls and whiners will find something else to worry about (because they assuredly won't just shut up). Where's Han?
  9. But have you seen Vince Young's record as a starter? [/hejustwins] [/statsthatdon'texist]
  10. The rest of us would be better for it.
  11. MEDICAL STAFF aka idiots Dr. Leslie Bisson Team Orthopedist Dr. Andrew Cappuccino Team Physician Dr. Greg Hudecki Team Dentist Dr. John Marzo Medical Director Dr. Tom White Team Physician Andrew Cappuccino, MD '88, a team physician with the Bills, performed emergency spine surgery on Everett at Millard... All you need is google to find out that Cappuccino did Dwan Edwards' physical and regularly is assigned this task for incoming FAs.
  12. It's going to be so righteous when you are right about all these guys and they get cut. I hope you brought the house down with your "I WAS RIGHT" Party when Hardy got his walking papers. BTW, send your resume to One Bills Drive. They need our best and brightest. And we can rightly assume the crybaby brigade would have been out in full force if we drafted another "thug" running back like "Smokin'" Blount.
  13. Yeah, and the same stupid doctors who intervened in time to bring new hope after a catastrophic injury for Kevin Everett. Who'd want to listen to those idiots?
  14. Steroids are a hell of a drug.
  15. Come on, have you seen that furniture? It's totally time to modernize. It will take 3+ trips to IKEA to get that place 'stached out. Also, I'm sure Wannstedt is doing the right thing and it's silly to whine about his whereabouts.
  16. Or... he's hitching his wagon to a guy who gutted it out, and played well in spurts even after an ACL injury that often sidelines guys for a whole campaign. Bell has always been a raw guy with the tools but not the craft and the chiseling to take it to the next level. I had been a doubter, but I think he can become the player they're looking for with a very productive offseason regimen. It wouldn't stop me from acquiring more talent for either tackle position, but that's just as much for depth as for anything else.
  17. The Bills have decent talent at the WR position. They have next to none at the LB position, and a couple of serviceable linemen. Fitz and co. can definitely give them enough points to win, especially if Spiller comes in and contributes more with maturity. Where are the Bills going to benefit most from an elite talent? You're right about the available LBs, so I think the answer has to be on the DL, especially given what we have seen leading up to this year's Super Bowl and in our division. Until teams cannot run Buffalo the F over, rinse, repeat.
  18. I think you're right. Question: can Brown still be on the Practice Squad if Brohm somehow improves, and a new draftee joins? I know there are rules about how many games a player can play, but didn't know if they have to be onfield or what the rules are for inactive vs. active players.
  19. Man, now Spikes. There's a guy who in my opinion was Hall of Fame-bound before that Achilles injury. I loved him as a player and thought it was a sure sign that better days were ahead when he joined the team.
  20. I think it makes Lee Evans a #1 who had a very down year and who for the entirety of Edwards' career was neglected in the offense. I think he does need more time to work with Fitz. Or, he needs a new team, where I'm pretty sure he'd show his stuff to be #1 caliber. He still has his speed and has never suffered catastrophic injury. He's still good for the big play. I tend to believe that a guy like that, who averaged 950 yds and almost 60 catches his first five years in the league, will be more likely to bounce back than to decline.
  21. so, in 1993 was Pete Metzelaars the #1 receiver, or the beneficiary of an injury-depleted corps and opposing coverage schemes that left him available for Kelly to target? Just checking. To me, the #1 receiver is the one who demands primary coverage and double-teams from the secondary. That's Evans. SJ might be getting open more, but he was not doing so against the A1 defenders for most of the year, and he certainly wasn't getting double-covered for most of the year. When he was (sans Evans), his play suffered. I don't disagree with the rest of your post.
  22. Consider me ridiculous. Look up Steve Young's record without the 49ers. 3-16. Obviously, he sucked. Better yet, study up on Dan Fouts, or Archie Manning. Fouts' "record": 86-84-1 - exceedingly average, right? Yet anyone who watched him knew he was a HOFer. Manning's "record" was 35–101–3. That sounds to you and me like something JP Losman might put up if he were given ten plus years to figure it out. That ain't the truth of his play on the field. It's the truth of the awful team that surrounded him. Consider me ridiculous, and better yet, consider the context. It exists.
  23. #1 receivers catch gimme TDs in overtime against big-time opponents. I don't usually talk about the intangibles, but this is one situation where I'm going to have to disagree. Until he works on his hands (and the head that should be communicating the message to them), he can keep getting open all he wants. He won't be respected like a #1 by anybody. I love that ability to get open, but it's what he does after that point that concerns me. He sure celebrates like a #1 receiver and he's made some big plays, but he needs to capitalize on crucial opportunities more regularly. Evans has in fact been a true #1 when he had quarterbacks who wanted to get him the ball, and he can take it to the house on a deep ball, or at least he has in the past. Is he less willing to sacrifice his body over the middle? I in fact agree that he was, when Trent was QBing. Furthermore, this year was not his best, by a longshot. Even so, he created opportunities for Johnson to get open, and once he was injured, SJ's game definitely suffered. Lee is a professional receiver who does those little things that aren't noticed very well, and despite his shortcomings I'd be furious if they handed the job to someone who hasn't proven it or earned it. BTW Price was a slot receiver who did well when the other guy (Moulds) demanded double-teams. SJ isn't a slot receiver but the other part of the story is consistent.
