A Few Thoughts About The Game
RuntheDamnBall replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only way they solve this in the short term is through a great draft and opening up the pursestrings. Part one is a 50/50 proposition. Part two is unrealizable because of Ralph Wilson or the people he has hired to run the team from a financial standpoint. -
I thought of this yesterday, but then realized how terrifying it would be to have him facing an NFL DT (6-1, 242 - that's fullback size).
-
If you think Hangartner was terrible, Levitre at OC yesterday barely surpassed the production of a fresh corpse. And this is coming from someone who thinks Levitre is an elite LG and serviceable LT. 2.8 receptions per game > Donald Jones' output this year. Just sayin'. And you cannot use what happened in Ravens games to forecast what would or would not have happened to Lee Evans had he stayed with the Bills. It doesn't wash.
-
Hangartner is probably a "C" as a center. Levitre "D+" in that he probably couldn't play worse than he did yesterday, but shift that to an "F" when you realize it disturbs the continuity you had at LG with an "A" player there. That's a pretty unconscionable plan B. I did and do think the Evans trade sucked. Stevie J. Donald Jones Roscoe David Nelson Marcus Easley Brad Smith ----PLAN Bs: Ruvell Martin Roosevelt Spiller K. Aiken Toone My condolences to Jones on the injury, but he was a lousy #2. Roscoe is exactly what we knew he was - a brittle "playmaker" who can't last a season and has a 10-cent head. Spiller might be a more durable clone of him with a penchant for getting open and dropping the rock. Ruvell Martin is a crummy receiver who plays a necessary role on STs. You hope to never see him lining up on offense. Stevie is playing hurt, and that stinks. I love the guy but he cannot give 100% right now. David Nelson is the only other NFL receiver here and he is a fine #3 who cannot excel in double coverage or tight press at the line of scrimmage. Regardless, you have two guys you'd like to have on an NFL team, and a bunch of filler. Ideally, Jones, Aiken, Roscoe, Martin and Easley are all fighting for two spots at the bottom of the depth chart. Instead, they cost three of our roster spots, one of them the #2 starter. That's pathetic, and I'd like to see a show of hands on anyone who thought DJ was a verifiable starter in this league at the beginning of the season. He wasn't. So, what happens when one or both are limited (to say nothing of having all of your top 6 banged up or IR'd)? If you keep Evans and the depth chart shifts down one, who knows what happens? What doesn't happen is Donald Jones starting at #2 to begin the season, and that would have been a good thing. A pale silver lining in all this would be to discover that Roosevelt and Aiken can play. Here's hoping.

Unless you're going to suggest some cunning on the part of the front-office (i.e. they knew an injury was waiting to happen), this is just pure BS. Sorry, man, if you saw that sh--show yesterday and think Evans wouldn't have been a more valuable contributor than Ruvell Martin or Brad Smith, please gimme some of what you're smoking. And no one thinks Hangman is better than Wood, we just think he would have been better as a backup C than moving our elite starting LG to OC where he cannot snap to save his life. These were stupid missteps that at best give us hope of paying our own players with some of that money next season.

Do we re-sign Roscoe next year?
RuntheDamnBall replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why not? Then instead of being surprised by a season-ending injury to a starter in weeks 2-4, we can just plan for it ahead of time. May as well nip these things in the bud. Plus, if there's one thing we need, it's to retain small, "skilled," easily broken gimmick players. -
Can we draft Baylor's WRs, too? They might be an improvement.
-
I remarked to a friend that it was like watching someone try to take a Camaro off-roading. It was astonishing how long it took them to do something about this - basically until garbage time (unless you want to refer to all but the first three minutes of the game as "garbage time"). If they didn't "lay down" yesterday, they sure as sh-- didn't show a pulse. I hope they get some bodies back, call up some receivers who can catch the ball, and give the Jets everything they've got. Between Gailey's long leash with Edwards, the countless injuries, Fitz's sudden inability to keep his passes from sailing, the receiver dropsies, and the line juggling, I don't know what they've got, really. A month ago seems much further away than it really is.

Not sure what to drink while listening to that album?

The Bjork is classic. Not sure why “The Tom Waits” is 1 Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Seems like that is good old whisky drinking music to me. I also liked: -
Courtney Upshaw +10000 I don't worry too much about our ILBs. I love Barnett and Sheppard if they are bookended by a better cast of OLBs and have Kyle Williams and Dareus in front of them.

Poll: The Bills' No. 1 Solution
RuntheDamnBall replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is not on anyone's radar, but I'd like to see better equipment managers working in conjunction with the trainers. Injuries could be prevented if our guys weren't slipping all over the turf, or were wearing braces when they need to at the line positions, especially. There is really no excuse for our guys slipping and tripping all over their own field, and it's been happening for years. Here's one where either Ralph is cheap, or the team doesn't see the value in finding the very best at this position (for the cost of much less than a league-minimum rookie). -
What our D and O-lines should look like this week, IMO
RuntheDamnBall replied to Justice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm with you. Levitre is an upper-tier LG - and a serviceable player at the other positions. Even though Levitre isn't (yet?) elite, he's very good at his natural position (did play LT in college, so it's not really learning to have him there - center, I agree, is foolish). Unless Urbik is terrible handling the ball, you can still have someone other than the center do the calls at the line if you're not comfortable with Urbik making them from center. -
Buddy Nix should have hired...

I must have missed that part where our cerebral head coach made Donald jones drop passes, or made CJ drop a catchable bomb, or made fitzpatrick sail passes, or gave our all pro DT bone spurs. We needs more fire in the belly! Maybe he'll yell at them and they'll stop dropping passes or getting ACLs torn trying to tackle the opponent!!!! Fire in the belly! Fire good!!!! -
If there is one thing I am confident of, it's that Wood is going to work his ass off to get back in there, and that he wants it, badly. I hate to say it but I do wish they had Hangartner right now, though.

The Injury Excuse Is Totally Pathetic
RuntheDamnBall replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude, when " what they are" is a team without its all pro top defensive performer DT, and two starting OLBs, what do you expect? Those guys were all here when the team was winning last month. This team is still assembling a roster after years of bad drafting for lean, finesse types on defense. And there is more work to be done to build quality depth to push a corps of good starters. I'm impatient, too, but to call the injuries a bad excuse is to not recognize how empty the cupboard was before nix got here. There will be mistakes, but I can't recall feeling more confident about the future in the past 10 years despite the recent struggles. The bills are a work in progress, while the jets and cowboys are expensive teams built to win now. Even they frustrate their fanbases, believe it or not. Settle down. -
So glad I just got an Eric wood jersey. !@#$ing !@#$ !@#$ !@#$!

Bullschitt. Sacks do not equal pressure. They are but one indicator of it. There was all kinds of pressure against Philly and New England, and it led to turnovers, which just happen to be better than sacks. Watch the games before making unsubstantiated blanket statements. Btw: those wins came before the spat of front 7 injuries, so your premise is fatally flawed. Whomever said we lack depth made the smartest point of the thread so far. -

Oh, Christ. I can't believe that a guy who would have maintained the status quo of tampax 2 finesse is being touted as an alternate universe savior, except for that I can, for this is Two Bills Drive. Fewell's vaunted defense couldn't put away the mighty seahawks or the Alex Smith juggernaut. He is a perfect fit for the Jekyll and Hyde performers on the giants. Gailey has forgotten more than Fewell will ever know about offense, and that is what this team needed. Put down the crack pipe. Next, Please.
